Yeah yeah
BTW I PIRATE EVERYDAY - PatrickFisher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34No kidding. I'll bet the RIAA and MPAA have a massive file on me, just waiting for this bill to be passed so that they can sue me for more money then I will ever learn in my life. Sigh. I can't believe I voted for this government. Oh wait, I didn't.
- spunquik, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35Then perhaps we as canadians shouldn't let this happen. Contact your MP.
How many of us Canadians should be sued like our Aamerican neighbours?
Zero. - jonnyeh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30The Liberals were pushing a similar bill before the Conservatives forced an election. This is an issue where there are no parties on the side of the consumer.
- spunquik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27I'd like to see them try and stop me from recording tv on my linux box.
it's just not going to happen. - PFS1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Emailed mine. Here is the text for anyone who also would like to email theirs, but want a head start on what to say...edit as you see fit.
Hello Ms. Stronach,
I am writing in regard to this article, which I read on cbc.ca after finding it through digg.com. This article discusses upcoming legislation which updates Canadian copyright law, but does not protect consumers with "fair use" allowances.
http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2007/01/11/copyright-canada.html
I want to state, as your constituent, my opposition to any kind of anti-fair use legislation. Solutions to the problem of copyright infringement cannot come at the expense of the rights of those who have legally purchased music, movies television shows and other media.
I have just completed backing up all of my audio CDs to my computer so that I may protect a very valuable personal investment. This also allows me to listen to the CDs on my MP3 player when out of the house. I do not want to be considered a criminal for protecting what is mine, nor do I want to be considered a criminal for listening to music I have bought, just because I did not listen to it from a specific plastic disc.
Please do not introduce law that would allow media-focused corporations to treat their consumers as criminals by restricting how and where legally obtained media can be enjoyed.
I am absolutely certain that your other constituents would feel very much the same, even if they do not take the time to write to you about the issue.
Thank you for your time. - ColinCampbell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22Tell that to our boys and girls in Afghanistan.
- twtmc, on 10/12/2007, -11/+31This is why the conservatives will lose the election this year.
- snak3st, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18My Uncle is an MP.
I''ll tell him about it. Even so, he used to copy rented Playstation games and then play them on his modded Playstation. - Woofcat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Emailed my MP, every Canadian should who reads this.
- spunquik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15if they decide to let this pass through parliament,
then they should take the levy off all recordable media.

Btw, my MP, Patrick Brown, is a useless moron, so I doubt emailing him would get far. Nevertheless, I may give it a try anyway.. :/ - donKey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14This will never happen.

http://www.parl.gc.ca/information/about/people/house/PostalCode.asp?Source=SM - Mike.ohara, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I really don't think this will pass. but I do think we should make a move before Parliament does. Make it known we do not agree with this bill.
- spunquik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I've already emailed my MP Jack Layton about this.
If anyone will give the conservatives a tough time about this its him! - whereisian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I blame lobbyists and shady politicians.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 08/11/2008, -0/+9Since your politicians are just as prone to being bought off by the RIAA/MPAA, make SURE this doesn't pass by letting your MPs know that YOU (the people who vote or don't vote for them) don't want this legislation. In the absence of public outcry, politicians will do what the lobbyists have paid them to do.
- gerkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Find images of iPod wearing MP's and email them and tell them if they pass this they are going to be so busted .. that will inspire them.
- affanjam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I know my MP in my area, he was in the news recently Wajid Khan, the one who switched parties. I meet with him almost every Friday. I am going to mention this to him.
- trump, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8if this minority government tries to pass anything remotely resembling an earth shattering bill, then it will fall faster than Britney Spears' popularity...so I'm not very worried
- whereisian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I'm very happy that people like Michael Geist have the ear of Parliament.
- trump, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8just e-mailed my MP

The producers have already been reimbursed for this sort of thing. They'll have to refund each and every Canadian whose paid that. Lotsa luck they'll be able to track them all down. Short of doing that, they could be countersued should they pursue someone.
- Paladin814, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I have just emailed my MP as well. For all those Canadians out there, I urge you to do the same. Then print it out and sent it Snail Mail as well. Remember it is free to mail your MP.

- Vision2098, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Hell no, we're sending them up there for a reason!
- brickguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The RIAA and MPAA should be banned from Canada based on their behaviour in other countries and their illegal bribery (yes they have to be offering something in exchange for this) of government officials. The government is our employee not the other way around. We as Canadians should do everything in our power to show the political members backing this bill a one way ticket to the unemployment office. Maybe then will the RIAA show them mercy and give them a job as a janitor if they are lucky enough.
- whereisian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6that's some hardcore nonsense

I really hope this does not go through because it is unfair many people. The artists aren't the ones suffering. Monsieur,
http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2007/01/11/copyright-canada.html
- sworoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You can't even spell 'than' right.... why would you be dugg up?
- hankyone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4XianSien: When does Petition Online actually changed something?
- jtherrien, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Oh c'mon. I know it's cool to be young and hip and dislike anything right-of-center, but it's their JOB to represent you regardless of political affiliation. If you don't contact them and this legislation goes through, you can consider it partially your own fault.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3***** them!
We are already paying a levy on ALL media (dvds, cds, memory cards). This is complete horse *****.
I'm gonna go download a bunch of MP3s and DVDs out of spite.
Those 2 bitches need to be fired.
GAH!! - brickbat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"circumvention of DRM schemes, but might not contain"
it should not be "but" in that sentence. It should be "and"..."but" suggests two things that are opposing. eg. I hate the color orange but i like the fruit.
in this case, however, they are going to tear off one testicle "and" they're going to tear off the other one. - nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm not all that worried - all they'll do if it passes is make "criminals" out of ordinary Canadians, but if they think it's going to stop infringing behaviour, they better think again. You can legislate people into "criminals", but you can't force them to change their ways.
Personally, considering the problems we've been seeing with gang violence and drugs, particularly in major cities - they'd be better off spending their time going after existing criminals, rather than creating new ones to protect corporate profits... - DeltaGuy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This cannot be stated enough times:

DO IT NOW! - dagonweb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7So Canada is being colonized by the US corporate herrschaft now? You northerners becoming one of the system too? Is that it? Or are you gonna stand up and fight?
- Fhionnlaoch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah right. Liberals and Conservatives are both in the pockets of business and the NDP is trying to look relevant by being 'tough on crime'. The only party I can see really opposing this is the BQ.
- kryptobs2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"they've made the decision they'll just download the music and worry about how the artist gets paid later."
I like that line, as if a significant amount of the profits go to the artists anyways. -
