- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+47They need to put some type of heat release on the Internets tubes...
- frank3000, on 10/12/2007, -14/+48any way we can send a huge surge to myspace too so it never comes back online? please?
- NadeChaser, on 10/12/2007, -5/+35Hell, that would be the best thing that would ever happen to the Internet.
- eqrunner, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34hum sounds like some evil creature trying to kill you. a big catch 22
it forces you into the house to cool off, then takes away your internet connections to the world your away from. which makes you run around mad, thus heating yourself back up again. you cant win - LordofChaosIori, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31Man... this heat is unbearable... and great, It's affecting the internet, is anything going to escape the heat?
- imjustabill, on 10/12/2007, -7/+29Even global warming hates myspace!
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24i live in phx, too.. people usually bust out the parkas and mittens when it gets down to the 60's.. i've almost confronted people when i overhear them saying "it's freezing out here" when it's 60-70 degrees.. i would like to say "technically, freezing is 32 degrees you nincompoop"
gotta love living in a city named after a mythological bird that spontaneously combusts... - phore, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24It is a sign when San Diego is having crappy weather. It was 111 here in Sacramento, CA. It's been consistantly hot for the past month or so. The weather forcast seems to be around 110 for the next week.
Even if global warming isn't real (which i think it is real) shouldnt we be taking care of our planet regardless? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+28But from what I've read, this global warming is just a scam.. That heat your feeling isnt really there.
- noGoodNamesLeft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20MySpace is a good thing; it keeps more of the inanity and butt-fugly websites in one place that's clearly marked and I can ignore if I want to. Who's complaining?
- madbeatchemist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20im in southern cali and it was 115 here today. Infact its still 90° and its nearly 1 AM. Don't be surprised if there is a baby boom 9 months from tonight. All the myspace whores had nothing else to do tonight without myspace. This is a national emergency. Damn Al Gore and his Internet and his global warming.
- sorti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16We don't make our own power we import a lot of it, because we have environmental laws that make power generation hard to get going.
If we had a clue we'd make clean power in state (if that is even possible?) but instead we import it from other states and let them pollute their environments.
It's like saying we are not a slave owning state but we import all the wares from sweat shops and don't ask/care where it comes from. - PunkRampant, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18The article doesn't mention Yahoo or Myspace whatsoever.
And yes, the heat is pretty bad. I live in the Bay Area and it's been at least 105 for the past few days. - videoeye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12actually @sorti is right...
So, congrats for the most ignorant comment about a really good comment.
I'm sorry for your ignorance too. - nogami, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Taking care of the planet = less profits for big corporations. And we all know that's not going to happen.
- brettotte1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Wondered why yahoo email was down for 12 hours today. Sites should have a help page or something to notify ppl of OUTAGES! So annoying to not know what the hell is going on with a site you use everyday.
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -16/+27"Even if global warming isn't real (which i think it is real) shouldnt we be taking care of our planet regardless?"
Not with the Republicans in office. (: - Agraek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13It's time for me to get out my hand cranked fan. Damnit.
I have my one handed websurfing technique down, but two hands is just too much to ask for. :( - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9If you work from dreamhost then stop digging and turn off your terminal, you're going to drain the effing UPS foo!
- noneloud, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12. . .and California?
- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -14/+22i hate to say this.... but what an "inconvenient truth"
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8let's all rip on myspace for pretty much nothing!!
Ignore it if you hate it, don't be a dick and copy everyone else. So what if you dislike it? The MILLIONS of users are not going to care what you people say. You're wasting your time trying to convince everyone, you're just trying to look cool. on digg. - sorti, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Spazkake,
You must not live in California, if you did you would know it was your job to keep people out with horror stories or whatever it takes. Or perhaps your parents dropped you on your head and smashed the part of your brain that detects sarcasm. - picknslap, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9How are people dieing in frisco of 100 degree weather. It was 113 here in Manteca, and we ran five miles! in the hot snow!
- binder520, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The article does not say anything about MySpace or Yahoo service. Did I miss something here?
- undersky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7join the rest of the people who never read the article and started commenting
- madbeatchemist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@ Spazkake
I actually have to applaud Sorti for trying to keep people from coming to California. There's already too many people here. There is no room for all these extra people here. This state was not built to withstand so many cars on the highways. It shouldn't take an hour to drive 5 miles down the freeway. So Sorti makes a valid point! - a7bat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Population saturation.
They all want to live in California, which leads to too much consumption of electricity. Perhaps they want to live here in oder to boost their ego and bragging rights, only to create havoc. (ig. traffic, high prices) - cryonix, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11oh man i know im publicly casterating myself here, but...
message from "tom"
"hello everyone - so there was a power outage in LA yesterday. unfortunately it directly hit the data center where myspace's servers are located. lots of people were affected and that's why myspace has been screwy since yesterday afternoon. we are still working to get everything back in order. i know what most of the problems are, it's just giong to take awhile to fix them. thx for your patience!"
(*deep sigh* yes i have a myspace) - i440, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I live in San Diego and it got unbearably hot for /three hours!/ Given San Diego's usually perfect climate, that must mean the rest of California is currently getting into the billions of degrees centigrade.
- CJz44, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Where I am in New Zealand it's been normally around 0 degrees Celsius (32 Fahrenheit) with highs of around 13 degrees Celsius (55 Fahrenheit). We have the opposite problem here, it's so cold that everyone is turning on their heaters causing power outages!
- videoeye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Is not the amount of heat, (like Nevada or Arizona lets say), but the amount of pumpered people the real reason of power outages.
I'm one of them by the way. - dustyshadow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I do not understand why CA has so many power problems. Why don't other areas of the country that are hot all year round have these problems?
- Dragular, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Because most areas of the country aren't loaded with environmentalist whackos. Don't get me wrong, I can understand your average "lets not polute ok?" guy. I'm talking about the hardcore whacko environmentalists, the ones who won't let you build coal plants because they polute the air, hydroelectric plants because they are a hazard to water ecosystems, can't build turbines for wind power because they are a hazard to birds, can't build nuclear plants because nuclear waste is going to be the death of the planet, and can't build solar plants because that would require cutting down a tree to make room for the panels, you're pretty much *****.
- earthtoandy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5California and its temps can eat my soakin wet Arizona ass!
118 today. Air Conditioning broke at work. Good times..... - xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Because they won't make any new power plants. The animal people go crazy when that topic comes up.
- metalrock76, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5My site is still down as it is hosted by Dreamhost in LA. On http://dreamhoststatus.com they mention they have a power outage in part of their datacenter. I hope it will be back online soon.
- scott2342, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I wonder if this is why Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo are starting to either build or scout out new data center locations in places like Oregon and Michigan? I'd imagine the weather is on average cooler than California. Plus, with Oregon's system of hydroelectric plants(on high demand days, I hear California buys energy from Oregon), they probably have a comfortable supply of energy vs. their demand.
- XxUNDEROATHxX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I live in Chandler, but our family was up at Lake Powell this weekend. It was hot, humid, and our AC on the houseboat just barley worked....Imagine 112 degree heat+humidity+very little AC...
Luckily, there was a lake you could jump into whenever you got hot... - cvrefugee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It was 110F in Corona, CA...then around 7pm we had a massive thundershower. It was still hotter than balls outside and the rain made it even worse.
- Araya213, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5My websites have been down all day, i'm gettin pretty pissed off about it too. The ISP I use clearly said on their website that their data centers were in Indiana. When I called earlier they said they were in Los Angeles and have been for years. I can no longer find the part of the Q and A section of their website where it said the datacenters were in Indiana, typical. Get it together over there!
- fatdog789, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Actually, multiple power failures hit Cali, due to the odd way we have of connecting the powerlines across the state; only a single line exists connecting both North and South, so when one grid fails, it can cause a chain reaction in the other half of the state. When SoCal's grid fails, it can occasionally spread to Phoenix (Arizona) and Las Vegas (Nevada).
Both MySpace and Yahoo have multiple backup centers, but last I checked, one set was in the Frisco area, and the other was in the LA area, and both areas had power blackouts yesterday. - madbeatchemist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Considering that Sin City is just a footstep away from HELL, its supposed to be hot there.
I lived in SD at one point too, it is like being spoiled living there. - gdog05, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Idaho represent!
But, you should smack your sister for using MySpace. - wallclimber, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5thezanman: "Am I the only one who thinks you guys are all sissies?"
===========================
Shhhhh, no, you're not the only one.
But be careful, Californians tend to lose their sense of humor when the weather turns hot. I called 'em weenies and even tho I was only teasing (I swear!), my comment got buried pretty deep (sigh). They're apparently a little overly sensitive right now, so we need to be kind to them till the weather cools off. - annonimality, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Yeah the illegal immigrant who was doing landscaping outside of my townhouse in 110 degree heat is a bad, bad man.
- lpmusix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What, myspace can't move into a datacenter with (redundant) backup generators? I'd think yahoo would be able to afford it sure, I know yahoo does at a new installation they're doing in Santa Clara that I've heard of (Course I have my systems in the same building :)). Guess someone cheaped out somewhere..
- skitzot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7"Sorry! an unexpected error has occurred.
This error has been forwarded to MySpace's technical group."
And here I was thinking it was due to MySpace's lack of ability to scale... - scoobydiesel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Its hot here in Cali no doubt, this is getting crazy...i want my blizzards not heat waves!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2then you got a ***** host. Everyone here knows that PG&E are idiots and should have a decent backup.
