- runkilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, I was just thinking of moving back just for this but then I thought of the prices of the houses there.
- mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've got Optimum Online right now, and my speed allows me to download MBs/sec at times... I can't imagine how fast this will be, but i'm glad i have cablevision in jersey... only a matter of time!
- Jibberish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish the article would have commented on the upload and download rates. I imagine that the 50Mbps is total through put. The article also failed to mention the setup costs for the user, monthly charge, etc... Anybody who knows where to find more information, please post it. When are they going to implement it in Saint Louis, that's what I want to know.
- geetee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wolfenhex: And cap you for uploading too much.
- TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used to live on Long Island, and of all places to do this, Oyster Bay?
- pczone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm on Long Island, about 15 minutes from Oyster Bay. Been using Optimum Online (Cablevision) since it was available, about 6 years ago. The service has always been good with fast speeds and uptimes, but their cap on uploading has gotten worse. Price now is $44.95 Month. Here are my speed results
2005-07-01 00:46:04 EST: 5306 / 85
Your download speed : 5434056 bps, or 5306 kbps.
A 663.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 87883 bps, or 85 kbps. - flyin18T, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmmmm, maybe Dolan himself lives in Oyster Bay??
- promixr, on 04/13/2009, -0/+0When is Cablevision instituting a la carte cable service? I've been told a number of times by Cablevision employees that this is in the works...(their Customer 'advisory' program is nothing more than market research.)
I think Cable customers should be able to turn off cable channels that they are never watching and receive a discount on their monthly service.
I would immediately shut off News12 (yawn) all Fox affiliates (yuk) the Food Network (I'm trying to stay healthy) any channels that feature religious programming, etc.. etc...
It would be nice to pay for *only* the channels I watch regularly, and to activate other single channels I am interested in without having to subscribe to expensive 'packages' every month.
Call cable today and request Cablevision a la carte!!! - reeprflame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have OOL too. The Diggnation podcast was saying how this HFC network may only put out 5-20 Mbps actual bandwidth, but as of now we get 10 down and 1 up. This is in response to Verizon's deployment of fiber I'm sure - I see it all over the area where I live - more specifically Ramsey, NJ. They are running fiber and will offer services of upto 50Mbps down and 10 up so it is not unfeasible considering the bandwidth of fiber (though Cablevision does run through coax which will slow it down a bit). The LI deployment is likely just a test to see how well the system can stand up and hopefully will be deploying the access to the NY/NJ area soon! Hopefully be a little more lenient on the upload caps too!
- kwick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Amen!! to livin on Long Island
- caitlin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love living on Long Island. :)
- Wolfenhex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I just moved from Long Island, I want to go back! Cablevision seems to always gave an insane amount of speed compared to other cable companies.
