- roadwar57, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10As the title says, no registration required. There is also no size or bandwidth limits.
- Basketb926, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11one problem, it converts any image file type (gif, png or otherwise) to jpeg. meaning not animated gifs, which kinda sucks.
- Nitro2985, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Time to upload a 50 megabyte picture and post it all over the place.
- djdole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5High-res goatse?
- robdavy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10The parent's linked article is a lot more interesting/useful
- Snowbeam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The details are always of course in the Terms of Agreement. This site like all the other ones that say come do this or that for free, then claim exclusive rights to your work or product that you upload. So, you provide them with the content and they are given permission to earn money off your work or any derivative of your work that they may create. You don't get a cut of that. I know for many, this is not about money, but in the long run all your free work goes to the betterment of someone else less deserving:
"2. Grant of License.
When you post Content to Webshots you choose whether to make that Content "Public" (meaning that such Content will be included in our Community section and will be available and searchable to anyone who visits the Webshots site) or "Private" (meaning that such Content will be available only to those who have been given the URL address for such photos and will not be indexed or searchable in the Community section of Webshots). By posting Public or Private Content to Webshots you grant Webshots, its affiliates and partners a worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free, nonexclusive, sub licensable license to use, reproduce, create derivative works of, distribute, publicly perform, publicly display, transfer, transmit, distribute and publish that Content for the purposes of displaying that Content on Webshots. In addition, when you post Public Content to Webshots, you also grant us a license to distribute that Content, either electronically or via other media, to users seeking to download it through the Webshots Desktop or for purposes of other services provided by Webshots and to display such Content on Webshots affiliated sites, including but not limited to other sites owned and operated by CNET. This license shall apply to the distribution and the storage of Your Content in any form, medium, or technology now known or later developed. You may remove Content you have posted on Webshots at any time. When you do remove your Content, the license described above will automatically expire." - ericesque, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4what I find more humorous is that Deviant Art has an almost identical terms of use policy. Once you post your artwork, they are free to do whatever they like with it. Kinda sucks for all the people who have become so accustomed to skipping the EULA and clicking 'I accept' but then again, I suppose they deserve it.
- chad78, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6No - the story yesterday said it was disruptive - disruptive is not bad - in tech terms, it's actually a good thing. Kinda like a "Killer App". Killer when applied to a human is bad - when applied to a program, is good.
- geekworking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They say you can remove the image to revoke the license, however they do not provide any way to do so. After you upload an image, they give you links to display the image, however there are no links to remove your image. Without user accounts, they would need to give you a link to remove the image.
- FloraMeisje, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3read it right to the end--
"When you do remove your Content, the license described above will automatically expire." - robdavy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9And this is different to the hundreds of other free-upload-services-with-no-registration-unless-you-want-albums services because....?
- Pseudo98, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4chad78 is right... although 'breaking the mold' would be a better discription.
There will be shockwaves felt by their competitors, Photobucket's revenue stream will have a healthy chunk taken out of it. - antihero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3idiot... marked as such.
- Kujila, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Haha, wait, wasn't there a story on the frontpage yesterday about how this was bad or something? :(
- djdole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Digg Reporting ...oh the choices! Spam, Dupe, Old News (free web-hosting...ie imageshack).
- avaksi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4disruptive! shockwaves!
merifiles.com and imageshack.us have had photo upload capabilities without registration for a while now... - diafel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Wow, free image hosting? There future is now!
- ebob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This service is another one of those temporarily unavailable services. Oh well, back to Flickr.
- oddgodd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah, that kinda sucks but it's inevitable, otherwise you could slap a .gif header on anything and use this to distribute it. Since jpeg is lossy it's harder to abuse this to distribute binaries.
- mikal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Also, this defeats steganography (:
(Assuming jpegs also are modified before they are published) - scmiles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Webshots is known Malware/Spyware etc. Most companies that have content filtering on thier internet connection are already blocking anything from Web Shots.
Best image hosting is at Flickr. - deboosher, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3ya.... this article was up yesterday and got my digg.... this one however, is the real disruption!

- chad78, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2yeah. giving away stuff is bad. I hope the open source, free software, GNU, Linux, Firefox people read your post and stop being idiots.
