- llbbl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23less frikkin scammers would be a good start
- jkaiser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23A new layout would be nice. Ebay is so Web 0.8 alpha build 53307.
Seriously, I have seen My Space pages look better - kirashira, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22How about an option to just view a sellers NEGATIVE feedbacks only?
- Dingle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I agree. From what I remember, they used to have that option back in the day. But apparently it was too convenient for us so they removed it.
- LaserLine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Their whole feedback system in general seems to be flawed. If anything they should do something like post feedback for each other, but don't display anything until both users have posted feedback or x amount days has past and you can't post feedback anymore. Users are always afraid to post what the seller really deserves for they might post negative feedback because you gave them a neutral. It sucks....I did it to this one guy once who gave me neutral feedback, haha.
- PayneX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's not just layout.
The whole website hasn't changed in decades. It's it's own little time capsule.
But hey, so long as those pennies and "nickels" keep flowing, what possible incentive do they have to change? - oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Since eBay owns PayPal (a bad idea IMHO), it is unlikely that eBay will allow google payments unless PayPal can't stay profitable.
- AwRy108, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's a few suggestions:
1) ditch PayPal
2) stop raising the fees - bossm4n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Better security would be helpful. My wife and I both had our accounts comprimised this week and they never replied to any of the emails asking for assitance and additional information.

This was solved a while back... you just put in the price you are willing to pay, and it auto-bids
>Even more if I just do a quick search on Froogle.
I don't think anyone is arguing eBay is the place for *new* things to buy
>auctions successful in the first place, dirt cheap prices.
You realize, eBay has to cater to both buyers *and* sellers right? It is a free market, and prices have risen to meet demand... deal with it, that's how the world works.
>You know, the thing that is convenient and easy for both parties in the transaction.
Weren't you just complaining about the prices being too high? That's why they are pushing away from buy it now, jeez. - GurnBlanston, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3As someone who has gotten hammered on the stock I would like to point out a couple of things that totally piss me off about EBay.
1. Why can't they fix the .01 cent listings with $25+ shipping and handling?
2. I have never seen a completed auction for a car on Ebay - not to mention that I would never buy a car on Ebay. There are too many things that can be hidden by a car scammer even when you see the car in person!
3. Why did they come up with that awful homepage for "new buyers that have never been to Ebay" it blows
4. Why is it that with all the loss of shareholder value they continue to pay Whitman big ugly buttloads of cash and have their shareholder meetings in lavish places. The last shareholder meeting was at the Wynn hotel in Vegas - like the most expensive place to have such a meeting. - Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"1. Why can't they fix the .01 cent listings with $25+ shipping and handling?"
BID ON THE TOTAL COST OF THE ITEM... as a seller, it costs me less to sell an item at .01 with $25 shipping, then at $25 with free shipping. Heres how it works, at .01 Ebay it will cost me .20 for the insertion fee and nothing on the final value fee(ebay doesn't factor in Shipping to the final value fee) on $25 with FREE shipping it costs me $2.51 with the insertion fees and the final value fees calculated in...
I reiterate bid on the final value of the item with shipping factored in. - DollaBill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would like some autorefreshing bidding please :)
- jonesin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Allowing purchasing with google checkout instead of stupid paypal would be what they should do
- 2point0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"How about an option to just view a sellers NEGATIVE feedbacks only?"
Easy peasy. If you browse with Fire Fox (up to 1.5--not compatible with 2.0) just download this extension (Short Ship Pro) and follow the directions. It's GREAT to be able to see only the negs ;)
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3141/ - TinyClanger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Try the eBay tools at http://toolhaus.org/ - they have a neg feedback tool there.
- jonesin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know, but that doesn't mean paypal doesn't suck.
To force people to use that as a payment method is a turnoff. - Tredici, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11 of a kind 14th century Ming Vase with gold rimming and hand-painted oriental pattern. PARIS HILTON, SUPERBOWL, POKEMON, BDSM, SKI TRIP, DELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Jergens, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Returning it to it's roots would be nice. That is, make it into a place where people once again sell random stuff to make a buck...not a living. IMHO, Ebay took a dive not long after they allowed "Ebay Stores". I do a search for something and up comes 26 of the same item for the same price, making me sift through hundreds of listings to find the one oddity.
- beenthere6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Underneath Ebay's , "no foul language", "prim and proper", "democratic" appearing "feedback" forum, lies the most hypocritical, hateful, holy-than-thou, bunch of overbearing control freaks you'll ever encounter.
Ebay's "feedback" forum was supposed to be where a member could go to get questions answered from other members concerning "feedback".
What one gets instead is herded and forced into believing there is nothing wrong with the system, that the problem is really YOU. If you persist in going against what this Klan inside the forum, you will be forced out by ridicule, lies told about you, or suspended. Ebay's feedback forum is the complete reversal of what it appears and claims to be. - ptevans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>don't want to have to jump back on eBay at 1:12AM to check
>>This was solved a while back... you just put in the price you are willing to pay, and it auto-bids
Right, the problem with that approach is that your competition will keep bidding until they find the next notch above your highest bid. No one wants to just put in the most they are willing to pay and hope that it comes in at something lower. Generally you want to know how much you have to bid to be the high bidder and if at some point you are no longer the high bidder, that's when you bid again. People don't go to live auctions, raise their hand when the auctioneer opens for bids, and say "I'd like to bid $5, but I would be willing to go to $50." They wait to see what others are going to do.
Besides, you're more likely to win at a lower price if you don't force the bid higher and higher with auto-bid. Think about it, wouldn't you rather your competition outbid you at $5 rather than at the "most you are willing to pay, say $25? That way you have an opportunity to come back with a bid lower than the most you are willing to pay. And maybe you could do that close to the end of the auction, so that the other party wouldn't have time to outbid you. Of course, it wouldn't matter if the other party's bid was some amount more than the most you are willing to pay. But again, this is why I don't like EBay anymore. People often do approach it the way you do, and again, this is something that causes many items to close at prices higher than what can be found on Amazon.
>Even more if I just do a quick search on Froogle.
>>I don't think anyone is arguing eBay is the place for *new* things to buy
And I am simply arguing that there are now too many alternatives for their stale format to continue to be successful without some significant retooling.
>auctions successful in the first place, dirt cheap prices.
>>You realize, eBay has to cater to both buyers *and* sellers right? It is a free market, and prices have risen to meet demand... deal with it, that's how the world works.
I understand that sellers are on EBay to make money, but considering that I can list items on EBay and drop ship from Amazon AND make money doing so, it don't think it will take long for that demand to start slipping.
>You know, the thing that is convenient and easy for both parties in the transaction.
>>Weren't you just complaining about the prices being too high? That's why they are pushing away from buy it now, jeez.
I find that buy it now items are often comparable to traditional auctions. But to clarify, I am complaining about the fact that auctions are no longer a significant enough discount to justify the time and effort. Particularly when there are so many alternatives. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ebay is NOT going to live up to our expectations ever. Don't even bother wishing, they use the excuse "we're still young" to justify hoarding their profits instead of investing in a better design and overall experience. Go ***** yourselves ebay. You could have done this a long time ago but you choose to keep a crappy design, horrible service, and zero help to those who get scammed.
- cvrefugee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Nice, so you artificially inflate S&H because you can't run a legitimate business? If you don't like eBay's fees, then don't sell there.
- geeeoff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this web based tool lets you view negative, neutral, and withdrawn eBay feedback:
http://www.inetfeedback.com/ebay/ - beenthere6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+08HbebThat makes two of us. I'll be glad when someone sues the ever loving ***** out of them. My real name has been posted in a forum on Ebay for the entire world to see. Three days now After making the moderating team aware of this, nothing done. Two days after making customer service aware of this, nothing done. One day after making the security dept. aware of this, nothing done.
My tolerance for Ebay's arragance, stupidity, and unaccountability, has reached it's end. Never have I delt with a company that holds it's members in such low reguard.
What specific government agency would I have to contact to force them to honor their own security policy, anyone know? - Tredici, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0eBay?
- ptevans, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Isn't the online auction model going to wane? Isn't it obvious that people don't want to have to jump back on eBay at 1:12AM to check if the item they want is still available at a significant discount 32 seconds before the auction closes?
And what is a significant discount on eBay these days? There are tons of items on eBay that I can find for less simply by going to Amazon. Even more if I just do a quick search on Froogle.
EBay's auctions are a victim of their own success. By attracting such a large audience, they have eliminated the competitive advantage that made their auctions successful in the first place, dirt cheap prices.
It just isn't worth spending 30 minutes locating a desirable item at a decent discount, determining that shipping and handling will be less than $40, and then deciding that I am willing to make time and come back to eBay at some obscure time just before the auction ends so that I can find out that enough people are bidding on the item to drive the price to as much or more than I can find it for elsewhere.
The worst part is that they are now working to push sellers away from the wildly popular buy it now option. You know, the thing that is convenient and easy for both parties in the transaction. I would much rather pay a few dollars more to buy it now and get it shipped sooner, than wait out the end of an auction to see if maybe I can get it for $2 less. But you know, who am I? Just the customer I suppose. And you would think the fact that this format is more popular with both buyers and sellers would tell them something. That this is what your customers want!
EBay, too much hassle, not enough value. - oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2eBay is doing okay... considering it was the first giant marketplace on the internet. Amazon was around then, but didn't have affiliates and had a much smaller inventory.
Considering the explosive growth of mom-and-pop shops showing up with Yahoo shops, eBay's niche was eaten away. Buy-it-now was nice... for 10 seconds until it turned out that almost everyone uses it - turning eBay into a regular shopping-cart model.
Mass reposting has made it difficult for the average person to find non-spammed products in search results. Searching by only keywords is not always effective (as many generic products don't necessarily have a unique keyword to search for). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1You're right. Cause I dumped Paypal. This paypal business needs to go, they are full of hot air. When ever they decide to, they just refund to all complainers.
- 2point0, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1FEEBAY IS GREAT-IF YOU ARE A BUYER. IF YOU ARE A SELLER, ONE WAY OR THE OTHER, EBAY'S GONNA SCREW YOU.
THEY SERIOUSLY NEED SOME COMPETITION!
PAYPAL (NOW PART OF EBAY) IS EVEN WORSE--THEY'RE ***** NAZI'S! THEY CAN TOTALLY *FREEZE* A SELLER' ACCOUNT** ALL THE BUYER HAS TO DO IS **CLAIM** THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH WHAT THEY BOUGHT OR CLAIM THEY DIDN'T GET THE ITEM. PAYPAL DOESN'T EVEN ***** *ASK* THE SELLER FOR THEIR VERSION OF WHAT HAPPENED--THEY JUST FREEZE YOUR ENTIRE ACCOUNT!
JUST CALL ME NO PAYPAL!
