- nerd05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+52I think my potential productivity tomorrow morning might have just been killed.
- dubloe7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+41It is, what school do you go to where this isn't taught? I'm minoring in medieval mini-warfare devices.
- d3m3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Why isn't this taught in school?
- Valyn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Some people could complain about anything.

- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Haha! This is just the technology I needed to take over the world. Now my evil plan will come to fruition.
- BlindIrishman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18The only known cure to World of Warcraft is death.
- lhnz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Every highschool physics room will have one in a couple of days time. It will give a whole new meaning to "the digg effect". ;)
- duckedtapedemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Exactly- This is a trebuchet!
- Zipko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Why miss the meetings? Just bring it along. Stand a folder up in front of you and make some covert attacks from behind your wall. Better yet, have a couple co-workers build their own and you can spend the meeting trying to knock over each others walls.
I think ***** Bingo is on its way out, I just found a new way to survive meetings about how safety and productivity suffer when people don't pay attention. - aoeu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8You seem not to work in an IT environment :)
I always carry a swiss army-knife-like tool with me to unscrew computer cases and so on. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10*goes away to get a pile of paper clips*
- fangthorn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Great! Just then thing to show my son, get him off World of Warcraft and doing something practical - and also fun!

*gets fired tomorrow* - DrDabbles, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Probably says the same thing about porn.
- LabRat777, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8This is the kind of thing that makes me love that site.
- rjnerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nerds and trebs: Trebs are popular because they are easy to understand and throw together. Its just an asymmetric see-saw. No need to source and deal with a high powered spring, etc. Unfortunately, treb's are hard to tune. They are very sensitive to ammo weight, and when unhappy, they tend to throw either straight up, or even backwards. Backwards isn't too bad, you just stay to the side when firing, but straight up is the real problem. A decent treb can toss the weight several hundred feet straight up, and its going to come down somewhere near the machine (and its as likely to be to the side, etc..) A 10 lb pumpkin fired 500feet up, can break a 2" thick plank when it hits. Just imagine what a 400lb rock would do.
Ballistae are much more complicated to build (you need two of almost everything, and the vertical torsion bundles are a PITA to preload, because you can't just hang a half dozen BMI 30's on the end of a 12' beam, like the onager's do), but at least aren't as big a threat for friendly fire. Take a look at http://www.siege-engine.com/MistaBallista.shtml for a modern take on the device. (steel, composites, and nylon, electric winches and hydraulics, instead of wood and sinew, windlass and block and tackle) - ratbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What is it with geeks and trebuchets?
- SnOwie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I guess I will be missing some meetings today... :)

- SiliconWolf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Every high school physics classroom should have one of these.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Get one of these. They're awesome.

- PacoBell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3What, does your boss lock you in the basement after hours or something? Go to the hardware store ¬_¬

I saw some interesting pictures of trebuchets at http://www.TheTrebuchetSite.com
Worth checking out.. - mwales, on 10/12/2007, -1/+116 pages!? arrrrgggg. It would be really nice if there were an easy way to print the instructions, that particular site design is really annoying.

This is an office, not a tool shop/kitchen ffs. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -37/+3cool, but way too many pictures. I'd prefer just a diagram and some images of it in action.
