- FishyJoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Or you could just get a used boombox at a garage sale for $5.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love step 2.
"Follow the instructions at the velleman site." - albinator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the headbanger amp is a lot cooler http://www.minidisc.org/headbanger.html
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Truly lame. Please, digg it more!!!
- Jarrod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I recommend the kits at http://41hz.com. I doubt this velleman kit sounds too sweet at all. The ones at 41hz.com have received rave reviews and are very inexpensive.
- Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I built a small amp about 2 months ago. I wanted a portable (as in clip to belt) guitar amp for practicing, so I picked up a 1W amp kit at an electronics store, a project box, a couple odd resistors, speakers, switches, and LEDs. A day later, I had a teenly little amp that runs for hours on a 9V battery. It has a volume knob, an input jack, an power led, a switch, and a 2 inch speaker. I made a speaker grill out of a metal fan cover from an old computer. It kicks butt, plus the guitar input, when turned up to max, overdrives the amp so you get a nasty (good nasty) distorted tone somewhat like a vintage Marshall. I know almost nothing about electronics except some rudimentary soldering skills. If you get a kit, its pretty easy!
- asplodzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For almost the same price as the kit, head over to ThinkGeek and pick yourself up a Sonic Impact T-Amp... it'll completely destroy the kit in performance and sound quality.
http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/audio/6cd8/ - J_Omega, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1A simple amp = a transistor.
One step up = power op-amp. - tschanrm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Agreed with asplodzor, the sonic T-amp would much better sounding, and better looking.
- Chiablo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is not a "step-by-step" anything. It's just random pictures in various states of the build. I wouldn't even consider this a true amp.
Since something like this can reach the front page, I'll make sure to post my REAL step-by-step guide when I get the time to build a Millett Hybrid tube amp: http://www.diyforums.org/millett.html - CheesyPeteza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was interested in this hoping to see what cunning amplifier circuit he had come up with to make a very simple amplifier. I assumed seeing as amplifiers are probably one of the most refined designs that he must have cunningly used some spare parts from some other device to make it stand out from the rest.
I couldn't believe it when I read, buy the Amplifier kit and build it... If you can build the amplifier kit you obviously have more than one brain cell and can figure out everything else in this lame article. - RadiatedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is crap, build yourself a real cmoy amp & DAC converter not wallmart potted crap
- Xcalibur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The concept is interesting despite the very spartan instructions, but I have to wonder why anybody would bother with this when they can get a Sonic Impact T-amp which is far more capable for a mere $30?
- Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is definatly an interesting perspective for me, especially since I have built amps and now test them at Crown International. :) I even have a CE1000 amp I use on my desktop computer although I have thought about hooking my iPod up to it just for kicks. :)
- pseudojd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yea. not the best instructions.
- AnimeRules15421, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm shure I dont care.
- tavisjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is LAME! It is only MONO! What is the point of that? :(
- drreg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I frankly don't see the point.
The Bose speakers hooked up to this contraption are powered speakers. Why not just plug them into the iPod directly"
Sorry, I don't digg this. - lechonlubber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why not just pick up a Sonic Impact T-Amp for $30?
- AKron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not really news worthy, unfortunately. I admire the person's desire to build something, rather than just purchase it already made however. Hopefully anybody making this project will use it as a stepping stone to more basic level projects. Make one with tubes, and you're a cult hero to many people. Hmm... an idea has struck. iTube amp?
- rama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0geez, thats ugly. people who mentioned the CMOY are on the right track, but the MINT is superior.
- toque, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Tiny little radio shack amp. Its a good first project, but if you really want to get into building yourself a good amp (at anywhere from 50 to hundreds of watts per channel) go to www.diyaudio.com. Lots of other good stuff there too. Be careful, it becomes an obsession ;) Digg.
- dodger2020, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that would be http://41hz.com/ (no period)
- Sixcolors, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0+digg for not putting the word "hack" in the title, and because it's a cool project.
- jimmy8091, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice budget dock +digg
- tehbawb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Honestly, this guy shouldn't have even tried to write this article. Not only does he not instruct the readers well, he doesn't even give the URL to the instructions he references.
- giveaphuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hmm.. where is the dock?
i would love to see someone build a nice tube amp with ipod dock, & nice wooden case, brass knobs etc.. that would be awsome! & i'm sure the tubes may make mp3's sound better? - dvoddo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0no digg becuase that might possibly be the worst audio system on the face of the earth. An ipod hooked to a cheap amp via headphone jack (uhh go line out of the bottom please) then its going into a bose speaker. wtf bose is the worst.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Not worth the time.
http://www.aljitech.com/ Digg's Playground - DaMa9eD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0mine's easier...Buy cheap $5 computer speakers, plug in.
- mofomojo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Agreed, -digg.
Find yourself a conventional phones cable (those type ones that go in the head phone jack) get PC speakers and voila, you've got your self a "pod-station" or whatever those ***** call it. - Roger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Meh anyone can follow a kit. Not even a schematic.
- DoTheFandango, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This is retarded. Everyone can do this with the right cords.
-digg. - Asrale, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0digg--
For those who want to build a REAL amp, go to www.head-fi.org, and build yourself a CMOY! - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I would like to know how to build a very powerful guitar amp, as good as one of the larger Marshalls, but for much less money!
I can get the speaker part, but have no idea how to build the electronics. They sell all the parts here in NYC, but I just dunno! - chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1That was the worst step-by-step guide ever. No digg.
- andruzzo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Lame lame LAME!
Radio shack has better amp kits for next to nothing....
How pathetic can people be if they think this is a great link to digg??? People, cmon!
definitely a "no digg." - arunforce, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Nice. Seems like what my Chemistry teacher would do.
