- jrtcs, on 04/29/2008, -1/+76Yet Comcrap will find a way to slow down and ***** it up.
- Surefly, on 04/29/2008, -3/+72So we're finally catching up to the rest of the world?
- ryleyleckie, on 04/29/2008, -0/+47it better be net neutral
- JavertHolmes, on 04/29/2008, -0/+44My ISP has a 60 gig monthly cap. If you made my download speed 100,000,000 times faster than what it currently is and the cap didn't change, what difference would it make? It's the equivalent of buying a Ferrari just to get to a red light first.
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -2/+41Dial up should be free, seriously no one should pay for the ***** considering some ISP's are offering DSL at 10-20 dollars.
- jasalo, on 04/29/2008, -2/+40Nowdays everything is xxxxxx2.0
- Cronikeys, on 04/29/2008, -0/+23Ryan: Problems like that will not happen when we launch Dunder Mifflin Infinity 2.0.
Stanley: When will that be?
Ryan: TBD. - kurtwinter, on 04/29/2008, -1/+22If they are going to give me 100mb/s "internet" service that's rife with packet shaping ***** and blocked ports, no thanks. I'd rather pay less for more.
- twiztidsinz, on 04/29/2008, -0/+16About ***** time!!
- killbert24, on 04/29/2008, -1/+15Bring on the speed! Finally we can come a little closer to Japan.
- DeathfireD, on 04/29/2008, -0/+12Na they will just create a new package called "ultra fast speed, non-throttled package" and offer bittorrent support for a mer $179 a month. It's all an elaborate plan to make money. If they offer 100mb or even 50mb speeds non-tech people are not gonna get it if the price is to high. That's where they will announce their "custom file sharing/video sharing protocol that will solve all file sharing/video sharing problems" which will probably just be bittorrent with a Comcast logo on it and a function that makes sure your not consuming more then what they want you too.
- akh4x0r, on 04/29/2008, -0/+11I'm sick of all this talk. I'm barely out of range for FiOS, and I'd be more than happy with 15/2 compared to Comcrap and their 6mbit line.
- datagod, on 04/29/2008, -0/+11Sooo....I can reach my ambiguous limit (30 Gigs?) with sympatico 25 times faster?
- deadhead05, on 04/29/2008, -0/+11My neighborhood is too "saturated" they said, and that's why internet never works.
- thecosmicpope, on 04/29/2008, -0/+11Shame you can't get free dial-up in the States. In the UK Sky offers a free dial-up to its TV customers, with no extra charge to them at all. Sky Broadband is dirt cheap too. 16Mbit for £10 a month, with 700k upload (approx) and unlimited transfers. It's ridiculous how much you guys have ti pay for some poor services.
- Cougaboy, on 04/29/2008, -1/+12Broadband penetration: 57% overall, 88% among active internet users
source: http://www.websiteoptimization.com/bw/0804/ - Nicarlo, on 04/29/2008, -0/+9exactly!
I rather have unlimited download at 10mbit then only have 30 gigs at 50mbit... - Lazydriver, on 04/29/2008, -0/+9It's from Comcast....
Really, you'd be an idiot to think that they'll just upgrade their networks for neutral purposes... Bastards are gonna lure customers in and then cut em off from having good internet, and only have their authorized sites go 50mbit. - scottschiller, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7Hopefully the pricing model doesn't also follow the "2.0" trend, too.
- macjaeh, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7I'm so excited to see seamlessly-streamable HD content.
- magneteye, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7Yeah, we all have seen how Comcast has been "reshaping" the internet for us.
They will charge 2 times as much for "Broadband 2.0" but your P2P downloads will still be throttled to the current speed. - johanrocks, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7Yeah, a Verizon rep told me that I will be offered 50mbit FiOS by the end of the year in my area for $150/month. It's just not worth it though. I can either go for that, the 5mbit $40/month, or the new 7mbit DSL that verizon is rolling out in my area. Currently, I have 3mbit ($35/month), and the rep told me that the 7mbit/3mbit service will be available by the end of summer for the same price. Better deal than the lower tier of FiOS, but I still like the sound of 15/2 internet. Who knows...at least Verizon gives me choice though, and reasonably priced. None of this Charter $50/month for 768k BS.
- IllBeBack, on 04/29/2008, -2/+8"what difference would it make?"
The difference would be that all Internet-related operations would complete far more quickly. - theaceoffire, on 04/29/2008, -1/+7Canada. Larger, less dense, far better internet.
We need to start finding out why all that taxpayer money we gave to the telecoms to upgrade the net disappeared, not make excuses for them. - YoctoYotta, on 04/29/2008, -1/+6Clearly people agree with you, but I thought the 2.0 pricing trend was "free?" What just went over my head?
- skyshock1, on 04/29/2008, -0/+5I hate Comcast as much as the next pissed-off techie. It's the only high speed data provider where I am. But I have to be fair - I get 16/2 with them, naked cable internet for $70 a month. It's a bit pricey, but I get the x-fer rates as advertised. This is testing against an external server I myself run, and not just the Speakeasy tests that people accuse Comcast of giving priority to.
- DteK, on 04/29/2008, -1/+6I live in westboro, Thank GOD verizon is here cause charter sucks more ass than comcast. got a 20/20 pipe and have no problems reaching my share ratio of 8.0. Get Fios as soo as its available.
- jus1haz2, on 04/29/2008, -1/+6Ya, hopefully at some point verizon fois will be all over the place. Fois is pretty cheap but only offered in like 5 places.
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -0/+5Premium sites like Youtube, Google, and Weather.com require the enhanced package which costs an additional $50 plus $.70 per megabyte downloaded after the daily 35 meg limit.
- avions, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4@ IllBeBack
My folks use a satellite internet connection and it is capped at 375mb per day! They have an Apple TV and cant even rent a movie. It is the dumbest thing I've ever encountered with an ISP. - kinerry, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4I remember the WebTV...
- twiztidsinz, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4Thats my point....
This was all supposed to be completed in 2006 and they haven't even got half way done yet. - inactive, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4Wasn't that "Get rid of the Web 2.0 sobriquet" article on Wired as well? What's goin' on here? Apparently everything's "2.0" now.
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -3/+7So we need more penetrate more broadband virgins
- sb76117, on 04/29/2008, -0/+425 times faster and 25 times more censored/filtered
newspapers, television news, its all filtered *****. the new internet may be faster, but it wont be the whole internet. - thebaron2, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4^
So we need to penetrate more broadband virgins.
There ya go. - notoneofus, on 04/29/2008, -1/+5About 57% of all households in the US have broadband now, which makes up 87% of the country's internet users. "Most" are certainly not on dial-up.
- itsthemechanic, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4LOL? I have 32mbit cable, with no monthly limits, and nobody capping my torrent speeds. Move to Germany people :)
- KMartSheriff, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4And forever in "beta".
- deadlyfluvirus, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3What part of the world are you refering too?
- KMartSheriff, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3Where do they get these idiots that are so out of touch with technology to run ISP companies??
- grimward, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3in reality they should have said "your neighborhoods capacity is oversold, sorry,we're greedy *****!"
- skyshock1, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3Not to mention with upstream rates capped as much as they are, how the hell are you going to take advantage of those huge downstream rates when no one is pushing data back to your computer that fast? It's positively silly that ISPs offer such laughable upstream connections when so much of the Internet's content is being uploaded by rank-and-file users these days.
- vibrokatana, on 04/29/2008, -1/+4*FIOS
- Ellipsys, on 04/29/2008, -1/+4Unfortunately I live about 20 miles from the closest FIOS rollout area. I refuse to get Comcast, and I'm sick of this 3.0/384 DSL, which is the best available here. My area pretty much will never be profitable to justify them running fiber all the way out here. Great job, capitalism! Thanks a lot.
- mohsenxp, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3is this accompanied by an 768K upload?
- BAFrayd, on 04/29/2008, -1/+4Now, now little guy. Someday you'll get over your heartbreak about the fact that you wasted money on that HD add-on drive for your game console. Really, just hang in there. I'm pulling for ya...
- gsbrickner, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3I'm waiting for 2.1.
- BAFrayd, on 04/29/2008, -1/+4Some people spend $200,000 on a Lamborghini to drive around town...
- nusuni, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3Oh time warner, could you please switch to fiber or increase my cable bandwidth? Either way, I'll be happy.
