- jcrewyayo, on 10/12/2007, -13/+37myspace is a sex crime
- karlschmidt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21I thought it was funny that the kids waited to make sure the guy showed up at the park, then called the cops.
- samfrench, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16"The five boys had created a fake profile of a girl on MySpace.com — a social networking Web site — to cheer up a friend who had recently broken up with his girlfriend." - To cheer up a friend...right....
- loker269, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21I thought it was gonna say something about the boys being arrested for political correctness or some crazy BS.....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -22/+34pervert? some 15 yo girls are hot! =D
- redsrule2500, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14It used to be normal to marry girls at age 14 or even younger, now it's terrible to even think about having sex with 15 year old girls. I'm not at all saying it's right, just something that was brought to my attention....weird.
- scott1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12So what's the date MySpace getting shutdown permantly
- iconoclast, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14myspace - "come for friends, stay for weirdos."

Rape Survey
How many times has an old man asked you to take your shirt off on cam?
How many times has an old man asked you to meet him?
How many times are we myspace "people" going to keep making stupid surveys? - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10did anyone see the diggnation podcast episode with Alex Albrecht obsessing over how hot 15 year old Emma Watson (hemoine from harry potter movie) is? kevin rose kept saying "no thats so wrong she's 15!!" but alex kept saying "i'm no pedo! but you have to admit shes hot!"
haha, and then the camera swiveled around to show Alex's girlfriend who was giving a cold stare at him. (episode 11) - legendofxix, on 10/12/2007, -10/+19Lol, thats funny. He so deserved that, friggin pervert.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10And if the New Jersey "no anonymity" law passes, what these boys did would be illegal. Bwuahahahah!
Also, if it was a 40 year old woman and a 15 year old boy, nobody would give a *****. - splammo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I don't know if you have seen this dateline special they have had on online predators, but I guess each time they do it they get dozens of people to show up and arrest them. It is really rediculous who shows up there are teachers, i saw a rabbi, big business men, and the normal scum that you would expect. I thought that it wouldn't hold up in court either, seeing how they were practically lured there, but I guess it does, seeing as they keep doing the show and arresting people.
- rodball, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Hey, he's in my extended network!
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8From the guys myspace (as posted above)
"Someone who would like me for me and not for what I look like. I want to meet someone who is real for a change. Mainly looking for friends"
Sure, that's what they all say. - avantretard, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10It was also normal to own black slaves at one time.
- mattyG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7are you serious? these are CHILD PREDATORS!! thats why they don't use children to help them!!! these guys are Dangerous! come on...
take a look at www.perverted-justice.com and see how they talk to girls they think are 13-14 years old, it will make you frikken sick. - LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Pretty cool, but sick all the same. Yeah, they may be hot, but so are people your own age...
- rodball, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Yeah, yeah, they are fit...
but my gosh - don't they just know it? - spriggig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The desire of a 48 year old man to have sex with a 15 year old girl is not sick, disgusting or at all uncommon. Actually attempting to have sex with young girls is, and should be, unacceptable. Girls that age don't have a clue how bad it will screw them up if they consent, and men that age don't care how much it will screw up the girl.
- sstidman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The fact that you attempt a crime is enough. If I attempt to murder you, but you get away, that is still a crime. If I attempt to rob a bank, but fail to get any money, that is still a crime. If I attempt to have sex with a minor, but get busted just before I am about to remove my clothes, it is still a crime.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If you're 48 and have a myspace, you should be locked up anyway (exaggeration). Just look what goes on in there- teenagers (like myself unfortunately), babbling on-and-on about pointless crap, barely clinging on to the English language. Myspace is like a online dating site, most people on there post how old they are, what they like (in other people ect), where they live, sex, height.... Pretty much no one ever uses the blog feature on a regular basis- so again my point, having a myspace at 48 is creepy as hell.
- nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7why dont the police use kids to help them catch these kinds people?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4absolutely, i'm nearly 17 and everyone and i mean EVERYONE has a myspace account. not me though. since before it became popular, i hated it. such horrible design, and giving these retarded kids a way of "coding" (copying from some "myspace template maker") equals horrible myspace profiles that a browser will wimper at. i dont know how many times my browser has crashed trying to view a myspace page..
but anyway, there are better alternatives. myspace has just grown too popular because the orgy spread so quickly.. oh god i need to mention the online "quizzes" on all the profiles. i HATE those!! "take this quiz to see how good you kiss!" grrrr. - rYno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4HAHAH that's funny.... "BUUUUURRRRNNN"
Next we gotta get a anti-pedofile ring where we do just what these guys did but beat the ***** out of the guy when he shows up to your house... that'll teach em. - mattyG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6maybe youre realm of myspace, but a lot of us who are involved and care about politics have profiles for a reason. it is easy to connect with others of the same ideology and beliefs, and is a good networking site for us. I'm 19 btw, and i use the blog feature a lot, usually posting political stuff. myspace.com/fuliberal
so dont think its all for fun... - mattyG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5wanna do the same thing as those guys?
www.perverted-justice.com - michaelburns, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9I agree some 15 year old girls look much older, but still he knew she was 15 and that is what makes it just... sick...
- bash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"But soon, a man began sending messages to the “girl” and their conversations began to have sexual overtones, said Fontana police Sgt. William Megenney."
From that sentence I'm getting the impression that the guy was not being lead on in any way; instead, the guy was "enticing" the girl without being baited. - cobr@, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3a guy in my digital media class worked with that fool. he work at poppa johns delivering pizza, the guy said he was wierd. small world
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If it's wrong to have sex with women (referring to fully sexually developed females here, as the designation "adult" is a social one in no way determined by biology and fluid across statute/culture/time, in other words essentially meaningless) "because they were attractive," what IS a good reason?
Do you propose that we conduct psychological tests on all women before having sex with them, because a lot of women are emotionally immature. A lot of women, for example, set themselves up for bad relationships. Having sex with them is guaranteed to hurt them, because they knew that they shouldn't have gotten involved with you in the first place, or they intentionally (though perhaps subconsciously) sabotage the relationship after the fact. So it must be morally wrong to have sex with those women, right?
A lot of feminists say that all sex is rape. In fact, the New Jersey courts ruled that no bruising or restraints or any evidence of that kind must be admitted to get a conviction for forcible rape, because the sex act itself IMPLIES force. The mere act of getting on top of a woman and thrusting your hips into her is force. And some feminist legal experts argue that women should not have to show evidence that they resisted, because females are socialized differently than males (the feminists avoid hinting at biological differences) and don't resist physically--a female is more likely to resist verbally or socially or by just freezing up. So it's not just guys having sex with 16, 15-year old girls who are rapists--it's all of us.
I do not understand the bandwagon jumping in this thread. Has everyone been brainwashed by constant media sensationalism, or is this some twisted new form of PC? - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ugh, I'll be happy when MySpace is a memory of the past.
- tepidpond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Intent to commit a felony is itself a felony.
You don't have to commit a crime, but intent is usually harder to prove than the fact of somebody actually commiting the crime. - Oakes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4casey - Intent is enough to be arrested and jailed, there's no doubt about that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You miss the point.
Leaving aside the seriousness of the acts, where is the moral difference between the guy who knowingly broke the law, and the kids who knowingly broke the MySpace terms of service thingy. They both knowingly did the wrong thing.
It would be interesting to see a log of the communications between the perve and the 'fake' 15yr old.
It may be okay for the cops to do this sort of thing, but for a bunch of boys who don't understand the legal implications behind entrapment and stuff it just sets a dangerous precedence. - Oakes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wow, where are you getting all this? Even if it's true that they "enticed" him, is it really a sound defense to say the kid was too tempting?
Moreover, to suggest that it's a "police state" for good citizens to help arrest child molesters is beyond help. Where do you people come from? - musicbear, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8MySpace - A Cesspool of Excitement
- bgartn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2dcmiltown, yeah, I don't know if I would have wanted to date a 15 year old when I was 20 either, but personally I don't see a 20 year old being attracted to some 15 year old as unusual. I believe (but am not sure) that most current state laws make it illegal for 20 year olds to have sex with 15 year olds. However, my point is, you don't even have to be 48 to end up being labeled as some 'pervert' and in legal trouble. You could be 20, 19, or even a child. I think that points to problems with the current laws surrounding this issue. (Sorry this got posted below too, new here so guess I'll be a little error prone at first)
- caseysousa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was wondering the same thing about it holding up in court. I mean, does anyone know if the law actually says that you can't "attempt" to have sex with a minor? I know you can't actually have sex with a minor, but what is the wording of the law? Obviously, I hope the guy gets put away either way, but I'm worried that he won't if the law doesn't say that it's illegal to "attempt" or have the "intent" to have sex with a minor. Hopefully there will be a really good prosecutor. Sicko.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Getting pedophiles off the streets is great, sure, but what evidence do you have that the loser in this case was a pedophile?
First off, double-check to see that you know what "pedophile" means, because I don't think you do.
Have you seen the fake MySpace those kids cooked up? They said they made it to cheer up a friend who lost his girlfriend, so I'm guessing the fake girl was pretty goddamn hot.
Do you have any idea how long the elicitation went on? This guy could have chatted with the "girl" for weeks, maybe months. The article doesn't tell us how long the charade went on. We have no idea what was said by either party, but more important is the sheer number of messages involved. We have no idea what kind of fantasy evolved in the guy's head before he went out to meet that "girl" at the park.
That this is coming from Internet users just blows my mind. You guys should realize how fluid identity is in the online world, and that people form all sorts of mental images about the people they chat with online. It's very easy to understand how anyone could get caught up in a "relationship" with a girl online.
Let's say you do get caught up in some raunchy chat with a "girl" you met online. If you're an Internet user of any sophistication, you probably realize that there's a good chance she could be a guy. At the minimum, she's probably nowhere near as attractive as her photo. So say she invites you to meet her at the park. It's a public place with lots of people. Wouldn't you be at least a little bit curious?
It's like when somebody posts a link that reads DON'T CLICK (GOATSE) and you click it anyway, saying, "I wonder if it really is goatse?" You just want to find out if the truth matches up with the truth presented online. So you go to the park just to find out. Next thing you know, you're a registered sex offender.
Is that fair?
Is that rational, or are we just so ***** up crazy about pedophiles that we're out to bust anyone who seems to deviate just a little bit from the sexual norms of this society?
Up until a year or two ago, I could have provided a link that showed how the age of consent differs from state to state. Many states had the age of consent set at 14. Now, they're all 16 or higher. California is 18. Maybe you think that's capital-p Progressive, but it is clearly a trend. To me, a disturbing one.
Let me put it clearly: In this country, we are prolonging adolescence INDEFINITELY. The "pedophile" hysteria is just one small aspect of this. The big picture is of a big brother/nanny state condescending its citizens.
To the fascist state, we're all children. - dcmiltown, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I think the legal age of consent should be lowered to 15. Seriously, they're ***** already. They're ***** at 13. I mean I'm giving them two years, don't look at me like I am some kind of monster or something. Seriously... what some 16 year old kid with zits all over his face who pops after 20 seconds he gets to ***** them? But I'm a grown man with skills! It's selfish... -D.Cross
- Killerah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think the title of this article should be "kids pwn perv via myspace"
- ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5MySpace is just a crime to begin with.
- missionjako, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well personally, I'm a 55 year old vegetarian and i enjoy lathering 10 year old boys in vegetable oil and eating carrots and celery off their naked abdomens.
Is that wrong? - JWood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Seriously...how many more MySpace stories are we going to have?
- Kashey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Prison is like a highschool. Really bad highschool.
- saysaknow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wouldn't you know it? Myspace is down right now. lmao
- stark23x, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Way to defend a child molester, genius.
