I agree with giftman - we've had them in Toronto for ages. I can take a picture and upload if you wish.
Here's the PROBLEM with solar parking meters. Noone mentions this...
You know the feeling of pulling up to a meter... and realize there is 20 minutes left in it? Which is great cause you only need 15 minutes to run into the store. So you don't pay a cent, and silently thank the last person who paid too much?
Kiss that feeling goodbye. Solar meters mean printed parking tickets. The ticket leaves when you leave. And so the next sucker has to pay even if you have lots of time left on your "meter".
Its a scam. Cities see increased revenue with these things. - compuz1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, these have been in NY for the last 5 years (and our version of Boston's CharlieTicket for 10).
They have also been in the other cities below:
Salt Lake City / Park City (since Olympics)
Denver and mountain resorts
San Fran
DC
Seattle
Miami
Chicago
and MANY international cities!
In fact, like the rest of Boston (T, "Big Dig", etc.) this "innovation" comes 10 or so years too late! - giftman03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Toronto has had these for years...maybe it was Boston that wasn't 'with the program'
