- egbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why not post a link to the product instead of some dumb summary.

- redandgold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1already dugg, but didn't make to the homepage:
http://digg.com/technology/%E2%80%98BlastWrap%E2%80%99_aims_to_contain_bomb_damage - tomacco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's cool. So if on airplanes they just wrapped every suitcase, bag, pet-carrier and briefcase with this stuff we'd all be safer!
- ckedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Video of the tests:

I wonder how long until they begin coating armoured vehicles and humvees in this stuff - looks like it could really help with blast dissipation.
. - da_bradler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1any vidoes of something blowing up in one of these?
- battlecat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can hear the metal jaws of bombshelters around the world drop.

I agree, and think we should start reporting such stories by a "bad link", don't you? - dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Is that a European Laden Backpack, or African?
- rtfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So if we got enough layers of this we could stop a nuke rite?
- angelwspr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hollywood should wrap all their movies in this stuff...
- pfunked, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Perlite has interesting properties.
- JulianMorrison, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder if they could make a "suicide bomber throw blanket" out of this, weighted to be chucked over the nutter while they're still yelling "allahu akbar!". That way they merely go "splut" rather than "boom". For added convenience, it could be made absorbent for easy wipe-up afterward.
- AndrewMayne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think I'll have a suit made of this stuff.

Haha, thought you were suggesting that enough _lawyers_ whould stop the blast! :-) I think we should try. - Bromskloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0tomacco writes: "That's cool. So if on airplanes they just wrapped every suitcase, bag, pet-carrier and briefcase with this stuff we'd all be safer!"
The bombs, you forgot the bombs! Oh.. - BluParadox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"That's cool. So if on airplanes they just wrapped every suitcase, bag, pet-carrier and briefcase with this stuff we'd all be safer!"
Or you could wrap the cargo hold... That might be easier... - cirby944, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^ I agree...we need viedos!
- yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0'Bubble wrap' ? where are the bubbles??
- psytek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that's hot
- Osiriscky3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it can't withstand the wrath of my rocket launcher arms
- aaronlidman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think I'll have the walls in my hizzouse made of this stuff...
- theman8631, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think I'll insulate the crotch of my pants with this stuff.
- afinemetsfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They use this in DC metro trash cans, those trash cans cost about 4k each.
- wwwaddedsavings, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What else would they think of.
- chrislewis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thats crazy enough just to be cool :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"A BlastWrap-lined garbage can will dissipate a backpack-size-bomb blast in less than one thousandth of a second."
gah... proofreading FTW. - PrometheuZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love the jackasses that bitch all the time about stories, lol!
- Jibberish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They should team this stuff up with that shear-thinning gel-type helmet that turns hard when impacted. I wonder if combining these properties would make any sort of a difference?

I usually do. I am tired of people using digg to get advertising money at the cost of the convenience of the user (i have to click 2 links instead of 1) and at the cost of the people who created the original content. The summary on this page should be enough, we don't need two summaries. - thewayne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A demo video would be nice
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That'd be cool watching a trash can. The blast would go straight up like a geyser or something. Pretty fireworks:)
- ccrook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So why aren't we using blankets of this ***** when we find IED's in Iraq?
- BubaBamm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0AndrewMayne said "I think I'll have a suit made of this stuff."
Now you can join a cult of alien seeking fanatics looking for a mystical device that could save or destroy the world
LOL - rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh wait, in this case the link is to popsci? that is fine with me, i thought it was another link to a blog.
- Muzical84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool idea with lots of practical uses. dugg.
- iWorks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ONLINE VERSION!!!
www.virtual-bubblewrap.com - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> dissapates a backpack-sized bomb.
as with all unilateral, unequivocal statements, this is wrong; it depends on the bomb. I guarantee you that it will not have any impact on the explosive force of my backpack-sized briefcase nuke.
> Why don't the States just torture more people?
> That'll stop the terror bombs even quicker!
We're torturing as fast as we can. In fact, we're so backlogged that we're having to outsource it.
Where did you say you lived? - woodge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ Bromskloss:
"Haha, thought you were suggesting that enough _lawyers_ whould stop the blast!"
lol maybe many layers of lawyers would :D - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 he says i can not use it to package ebay ***** what happens if i send people bombs
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I suspect that there is a logical reason that the stuff is only used on garbage cans in DC...The space between those bags of dope, are enough to let in a bazooka shell. I'm sure it doesn't breathe well, and is probably a little heavy in the quantites they are using. No Pictures of exposions, NO CIGAR.....
Cyborg - Mantus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0alright.. wrap all of iraq up in this stuff already
- YellowJKT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0we need this stuff for those pesky fedex shipments ;)
- themajor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0that rawks

Or you could wrap the cargo hold... That might be easier... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0That's a bunch of BS .....FAKE!!!!! I've worked with most explosives and this is a bunch of crap for one Name the explosive for two this would have to be ideal impact and placement!
- jackmaninov, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Why don't the States just torture more people? That'll stop the terror bombs even quicker!
- 1337geek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0so terrorists dont package their own bombs?
they take it to the post office and ask that they package this bomb for them right?
stupid, waste of money. - stakk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0dddupe? either that or this is a post from slashdot 3 months ago. :-/ nodigg
