- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4So, guy was living in New York illegally, brags about it on his blog. Then he goes to Canada for some reason, then on trying to come back the border guards find his blog via google and refuse him entrance.
Good. If you want to live here, do so legally, you moron. - joerao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This guy had no work visa, and no special skills that would earn him one. He needs to wait in line like everyone else. Blogs don't earn you a free pass.
If he really wants in, he can go to Mexico, and jump the board like everyone else ;). - zoomie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"It's sad to see America is not the land of the free anymore."
Funny, he even admits that the US will allow him to return in 6 months. America is still the land of the free as long as you respect its laws.
Bravo to the Border Patrol. - mrman5917, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So he was an illegal alien, got caught, and was refused entry to the US, and that is somehow a bad thing? Damn laws always getting in the way of stupid bloggers who think they are the *****.
The real story here is that Canada allowed a person with no legal standing to enter their country with no protest....sigh... - jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Summary:
-Person is neither a Canadian or American citizen
-Canadian border patrol people sometimes aren't asleep
-Person discovers he has no right to entrance to the USA
Shocking? Not really... - roguepirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is there an actual news story to this or is it just from his blog? Anybody could write that on a blog.
- fitzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You break the law, you pay the price.
- crazyfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What freedoms have they removed?
America has the most freedoms in the world.
Look around you, you can do mostly anything you want in the boundries set by society.
You can protest mostly whereever you want.
Go to the middle eastern countries, you'd get shot for doing anything not according to the government. - cy_kid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bad news just to drive traffic to his website. Doesn't matter if it is true or not. No digg.
- jool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Breach of privacy? Give me a break?
If you have nothing to hide, than whats the big deal?
If you have something to hide, well then thats your problem"
Isn't freedom great? You have the freedom to believe that the government should be allowed to know everything about you. - metafore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how has anyone concluded this to be an authentic or credible report?
anti-digg. - jasontromm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Boo hoo. (Cue tiny violins.) If I was a border guard, I wouldn't want to let anyone in who had recently been to Iran. Good for him!
- terminalfreeze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's the best thing to ever happen to him, hey look at how many hits his blog will get!! =)
- d0zy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0someone tell that that iranian that he should go to mexico, jump the border, pick some strawberries for .50 cents an hour, buy some obviously fake papers/id, and move up to minimum wage cleaning up my vomit after the college party at student parking lot g. that's the special skill he needs to get up in this biotch!
- crazyfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Breach of privacy? Give me a break?
If you have nothing to hide, than whats the big deal?
If you have something to hide, well then thats your problem - mouthster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good, guy sounds like a an *****.
Probably smells like one too. - massa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am afraid that two years from now, the guys will see my posts at debian-legal and bore themselves to death :-) +dugg
- crazyfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The guy probebly confessed out of nerviousness that it was his and its true
- pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Secondly, how reliable is this information? What if he found a post on somone elses blog about this person? Is he supposed to decide based on that information?"
Who cares how reliable it is? If it has *any* chance of being credible, then the border guards need to consider whether or not the person will pose a threat to american citizens. He was doing his job very properly and thorougly. It's our ***** country, our ***** laws - antifuse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is extremely dumb. "No officer, that's not my blog. Guess somebody else with the same name as me started up a blog! Small world!" How hard is it to say that?
- jool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@crazyfan
I was just commenting on your opinion that you shouldn't care about privacy, I got the impression that you felt that way not just in this case. And even if you feel that your right to privacy should be decided on a case by case basis, who will decide that?
Of course it's up to every country to decide how it should screen people entering the country and in this case they only used public information anyway. - ravage386, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good.
- antiwmac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with some of you, how does this a tech news?
digg is getting bigger and bigger, but with more "offtopic" news spaming around the homepage. - DeputyDawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A member of border patrol with a brain?
GG DHS HR Dept - leha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This guy should enter US through mexican border at night ;) For 10 pesos he will get a guide, for 20 the guide will carry him. These american emigration/border rules are so laughable ;)
- rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Technology has some good uses.
- test5477, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1they were simply doing their job. I wish more would do the same.
quit complaining and do the paperwork if you want to come to the US, lazy bastard. - twylight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0owned?
- crazyfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If I were him, no amount of hits would compare to the lack of going to the great states of America
- mrman5917, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@eng69
WTF are you talking about? This has nothing to do with being free or not. It has to do with the legal process of immigrating. Living in Southern California, I see the effect of illegal immigration first hand. California is falling apart because of it. Their breaking the law screws everyone else. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"It's sad to see America is not the land of the free anymore."
Sure you are free to enter the country legally. If you like this freedom enough, you are also welcome to apply for citizenship. - ek3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Bravo to the Border Patrol."
We have boarders now? When did that happen? - blackproject, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If he is a non citizen then he better get used to being scrutinized.
Its calle NATIONAL SECURITY - pavelich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0AAHHA great comment jool, yeah anyone who thinks the fact that the internet is a reliable legal source is going to push us father into problems in the future. most are blind to see what google is trying to put into place. they are setting up control of all forms of information, and then once that is in place, we have no where to look but to them, what freedoms do you have? this article reminds me of a scary sci fi movie, but we are now seeing this as a reality...
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How is this tech news?
- b7j0c, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0skyfex - first of all the guy admitted it was his blog, so the veracity is not in question. google is a public website. there is absolutely nothing wrong with the border quards using it. and maybe just maybe people will figure out what i have been saying for some time - keep yourself out of search engines if you can.
- Mach5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope the door hit him on the way out.
- zoomie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0skyfex...put your tinfoil hat on. The black helicopters are on their way to your house
- Squeegee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Give that INS/Border Agent a raise!
- BleckLord, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Arg! I cannot believe the arrogance of some of the American posters here. *flame* I'm sure you wouldn't have the same opinion if your ancestors weren't let off the boat. *flame*
Because of our policies at the boarder, this could easily be done to Americans going to Europe, Canada, or Mexico. It most certainly is possible for frequent visitors of Japan. - zodiacal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i have more respect for our boarder patrol now. this bolger is a moron.
No Digg - kiranlightpaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Way to go border patrol. Looks like there are some really sharp tacks working there.
He was an illegal immigrant, and was denied reentry. End of story. Nothing really to see here. - scbysnx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ok.. what right does he have to be in the us? those who say the us is no longer the land of the free are right.. but NOT because of this!!! its is NOT unreasonable to deny someone who doesn't have citizenship entry to the united states if they have overstayed. It is a little strange that the guard used the blog to gather evidence but I wonder what would happen in the event of a diary or journal? It sounds like he's just complaining because what was supposed to happen actually happened for once.
- crazyfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Isn't freedom great? You have the freedom to believe that the government should be allowed to know everything about you."
You tell me countries that dont do background checks?
That know nothing about its citizens. - neozeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think the scarry thing about this is that they started to question him about this posts... Sure he was an illegal and kicked out, thats moot, but do you want to be googled & interrogated every time you cross the borders?
Oh wait I forget most people living in the usa never leave their state. - hogrod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm glad to see the this officer is doing its job, if this blog story is actually true. also since your are not a American or Canadian citizen, you have no rights to be violated, your lucky we don't change our policy's and have your tortured or shot, like some other country may do if you were trying to enter our under such circumstances. maybe we should start shooting people like this, then maybe the word would get out we don't want just anyone here for no reason at all anymore.
- M3wThr33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I dugg this, because it points out that OUR country is doing our job while Canada clearly isn't.
Hoder was getting an obvious free ride without applying for *****. - b7j0c, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The law must be applied equally. The officer in this case did the right thing. You don't get a pass on the law because you are tech savvy. I am proud that in this case the law is being applied fairly, it should not just be Mexican dayworkers who feel the brunt of immigration reforms. As for the officer using Google...why not? Aren't you happy there are some people with brains protecting the borders?
- pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Give that INS/Border Agent a raise!"
Indeed, he deserves such - ReinMasamuri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Breach of privacy? Give me a break?

If you have something to hide, well then thats your problem"
It's actually the same argument the British used on the colonists for unwarranted search and seizure.
Though this guy isn't an American Citizen, so he doesn't have those rights ;) -
