- PDAIsAOk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42Read the article. It is possible for a mixed couple to have an egg and a sperm that just has the genes for one of the races. The odds were 100 to 1 for that. Another 100 to 1 since it's twins. The odds for 2 sperms fertilizing 2 eggs was 100 to 1. 100x100x100= 1,000,000 to 1 odds. The crazy part is that this is actually possible
- marix, on 10/12/2007, -7/+29In my neck of the woods this is what we call "milkman syndrome"
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23I thought this article was a deja-vu when I looked at it because I could've sworn I read something like this before.
Then I looked at the time stamp: "21st February 2006" - jprater, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23i love seeing teenage pregnancy. let see, pregnant during summer 2004. that would make her 17 and him 15. eek! i'm sure their parents were really proud!
"It was a shock at first to discover I was expecting as we hadn't been trying for a family," she said...
no *****, you're freaking 17 and he's 15!!! - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -9/+27Is Michael Jackson involved in this?
- endyminion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15RTFA,
TWINS. It doesn't make any sense to say she cheated on him. - mojofrojo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15My god, I would hope that people would keep racist views off of a technology forum and just comment on the articles but I can see this will end up in a flame. BTW, if white women like to date us it means they want to. Not that they have been "seduced by darkie." Or however you justify your anger towards being alone.
- doubleYou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Read the article, people, and you'll see that the paternity in this story is not at all in question. This is simply a wonder genetics and statistics.
It's not at all like the paternity issue in this recent segment from the Maury Povich show where the parents are both white, and the child is clearly black --for the obvious reason-- but the father seems to have been in denial from the start:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHC-eLeWi0U
It's sad and funny at the same time. - Bcalibur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Both the parents are white/black, and it's a million to one odds.
It's in the article

Seriously, awesome for "weird column", not so good for oreo jokes. - DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Wow. I thought it was 2006, not 1956.
There is no inherent difference between the races, and any perceived difference is the product of a society founded on the oppression of other races that has only just begun to attempt to eradicate such oppression. You and people like you are the reason it still hasn't happened yet.
Go educate yourself or go kill yourself. I don't care which one, but either way, we'll end up with one less ignorant ***** around. - ohhhL3ThaL, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10that is awesome.
Shows how equal people truely are.
Knock of the racism *****. I can't believe people are still that ignorant. I thought part of life was growing up and maturing.
I am tired of this incompetent ***** people post on digg. - endyminion, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14Kolop1: Living life believing in 6-billion miracles sounds pretty good to me.
I personally agree, the way reproduction happens after conception is just fascinating, and it does seem miraculous that 2 cells can become something so beautiful and complex! - ohhhL3ThaL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8with that ignorance, we know it's not you.
- thomasthecat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Oh my God. In general the comments on this story are horrifying.
- enclaved, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6If that's how you feel, get ready for monday.
- leoedin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7That relationship is technically legal, but its still a bit worrying they're getting pregnant so early :o
- ohhhL3ThaL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7agreed
- MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"Both Kylie and her partner Remi Horder, 17"
Good luck for the future, kids. - ohhhL3ThaL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6people wont all become one color, I think we would just keep evoliving and adapting to our surrondings.
- rewritable, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6So then 1,000 years from now when everyone has mixed together and became blackish brown there will still be a white baby once in a while?
- sigintop, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Here's snopes' article on the whole thing if you want more information:
http://www.snopes.com/photos/people/mixedtwins.asp - marix, on 10/12/2007, -15/+19no, its what happens when you play the odds long enough. Chance != miracle
- ZerozenOnes, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Breaking news! This is 2006 - not 1338AD. You can stop believing in miracles now, its ok...
Conception is amazingly beautifull yes, but please...
... sigh ... - domomike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3WOW!!!! That's amazing! Pretty cute how the parents are both half of each and they get two kids who are full of each.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@johnmcl
The guy is 17 and has twin girls to feed now. I wouldn't be amused either. - twiztedambience, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3talk to Dave Chappell about it. He quit doing it. you should too.
a large chunk of people are too ignorant to tell the difference. In addition, that kind of joking just keeps bringing us back to the dark ages. Lets just quit it altogether. ok? - TheRappingShoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The mail is a tabloid, both in its shape and in its journalistic content. It's essentially a right-wing equivalent to the Mirror.
- neo7779, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dude, Digg 3.0 will be about all news not just tech. Which makes since if you want to expand you content and reach into all media.
- u8myfoood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3well no trouble telling the difference between the twins now...
- jprater, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5RTFA! they are twins! how can you cheat and still have twins!?!?
people need to stop questioning the faithfulness of the couple! it's all about genetics, not screwing around! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yep, you're right Sark, that's why genetically, they're considered rare. It takes two recessive blue-eyed genes to birth a blue-eyed child. Same goes for blonde hair and other, for lack of a better word, Aryan traits. I would say caucasian, but that conjures up a variety of more dominant gene sets like fair skin/dark eyes/dark hair or fair skin/light eyes/red hair.
- ruku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2no im not sure on this one, but from what i remember from my biology lessons it is actually impossible for 2 parents both with brown eyes to have a child with blue eyes, the possible outcomes are brown and on the odd occasion green. also from what i remeber this is because the Brown allele is the dominant gene.
thats what i was taught anyway
then again it is feasable that the childs eyes will eventually turn green or blue as most white children are born with blue eyes in the start ^^ - MrTinker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Beautiful.
- demosthenes247, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2if you have two recessive alleles, the dominant phenotype won't be expressed...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@TomP
You might be interested in this little bit from Digg's privacy policy: "You must be 13 years and older to register to use the Digg website." - ViRaZ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Does this mean that even if everyone keeps screwing each other, we will still look different?
- brainScan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ endyminion: You say that it is fascinating and that it "seems" miraculous that two gametes can become something so complex. I agree: it is fascinating and it "seems" miraculous. However, it only seems like a miracle when we can't explain it. However, life is as much a miracle as knocking down a row of dominoes is a miracle... It's a series of events and forces that come together to produce an effect that is, in the end, predictable and not miraculous.
Clearly, chemicals in the fetal environment affect the outcome of the infant in very predictable ways. Too much alcohol in utero results in a specific set of effects known as fetal alcohol syndrome. A lack of folic acid produces babies that have neural tube defects such as spina bifida. These and other things, like lead and mercury, disrupt the predictable series of events in fetal development in specific and predictable ways. The fact that these things have systematic effects on the developing fetus proves that the "miracle" of life is definable, predictable, specific, and therefore not much of a miracle at all. - CeeAyy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Anyone who thinks that racism is dead only needs to take one look at what gets posted on Digg.
- sark666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2But the odds of either white/black aren't even are they?
What I mean is, aren't most 'white traits' resessive? Fair skin, blonde hair, light coloured eyes. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This story is true but don't forget that 20% of men are unaware that they are not the biological father of the children they are raising or paying child support for. Researchers discovered this accidently when they were doing genetic studies.
- cwcheang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3that's why we shouldn't be racist. both blacks and whites actually came from the same thing. ;-)
- OhROFL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1maybe she had a crazy threesome with a black guy and a white guy while she had two available eggs?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Racism is alive and well in the USA with institutionalized reverse racism, aka affirmative action. Unless you believe only whites can be racist?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not isolated to the US. In fact, most of the world practices some form of discrimination, whether it be nationalism, racism, classism, religous prejudice, etc. While we can dream of and work towards equality, human nature tends to cancel that out on a global scale.
In other words, if you think it's bad in your own backyard, take a look at other countries, where belonging to the wrong tribe will get your entire state slaughtered (Northern Iraq), belonging to the wrong religion will instigate genocide (Bosnia/Serbia), belonging to the wrong class (the Untouchables) in India will doom yourself and your children to a lifetime of intolerable poverty with no chance for advancement. The US is like Disneyland in comparison.
- Kelpesh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome, if it was my sister it would be a lifelong opportunity to mess with people! great story..
- Ukonu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Not after a long period of time because the black genes would eventually become dominate over the recessive white ones.
- JamesGlover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In the UK the legal age is 16. Besides, there's only two years difference, its hardly that odd. (In fact the UK law specifically states that prosecution is not recommended in cases in which the age differences are minimal.)
- Moremoe, on 10/12/2007, -19/+20They are very pretty girls and it's a miracle of life.
- DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -5/+61. Stop spamming, you stupid *****. You'd still get modded down if you had anything worthwhile to say, but you don't.
2. You've obviously read TFA. Congrats. But you obviously don't understand it. I mean, don't you realize that the opinions of experts in a field matter way more than yours? I mean, why do you feel your opinion as an uninformed blogger supercedes that of experts? - tryferos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah, I saw the ages and was like "What?!!?!", twins already and they are both teenagers! And you gotta love the face on the father, he looks happy doesnt he?
Well for the kids sake, I do hope that the parents stay together and can fight the overwhelming odds that unwed teenage parents will breakup. -
