- BBX25, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25If it was flat, and didn't have that 'unevenness' to it, I would like it much more.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14The US is rapidly falling behind in the world. Our dated cell phones and Internet infrastructure attest to this. That's why I hope to move out before the dollar drops to Weimar mark or post-Civil War Confederate dollar levels of value. When's the last time you bought any goods/services from the United States (no, Dell doesn't actually make computers, those are Chinese)?
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11More reliable: http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/cellphones/sony-ericsson-black-diamond-159750.php
- thana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10that's why they are now called "sony ericsson". sony ericsson phones have sold quite well in other parts of the world. gone are the days of defective antennas. as for battery life, it really depends on how "you" use it. not sure if most cellphones nowadays use li-ion or not. as for the design, it's VERY easy on the eyes. however, the problem with non-flip phones is that the screen is easily scratched. ipod nano anyone?
- geekThing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The borderless screen although might look cool will make the phone far more prone to cracks.
Usually the screen border is a little elevated from the rest of the screen, so if you drop the phone, the flat ground will hit the border and not the screen, so the screen doesnt get scratched/broken easily. But without the border that protection will be gone. - joshpape, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I have had sony-ericsson phones for the last 4 years in the UK. And I get them because there battery life is the best on the market.
In the US you seem to get phones so much later than in Europe which in turn gets them so much later than the east asian market place. I find it odd that the US gets them so late. - essdub, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It's not a bad link, it's been dugg. Sheesh.
- tonicboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I like it much more, because it's not flat and has that 'unevenesss' to it.
- peregrine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5lame dude. its a freaking cell phone.
you turn it on, call your friends/family turn if off
cell phones are too much its gotten to the point where you can get a hold of anyone anytime and frankly I refuse to see it as a goodthing.
~ - drfishy520, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The phones get better and better, but the service remains crappy.
- nilobject, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10crasspunxtexhtv: I can hardly read your comment at all. It short circuits the part of my brain that parses written language. Please use a language that *resembles* English. Christ.
Anyways: How can you assert that they've "LEARNED FROME(sic) THERE(sic) MISTAKES"? They haven't - they're still releasing CDs with root-kit DRM programs. They will continue to do so. They're a publicly-held company that serves the interests of its shareholders - not its customers. How can you call this phone "amazing"? Sure, the picture is pretty, but that is no indication of how well it works (or if it even works at all). Knowing Sony, there will be some sort of crippling DRM included. - mlerner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks pretty ugly, maybe it's just me..
- rscarric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sony Ericsson has been churning out really great phones for years. Sadly most of them have been released only in
Europe and Japan, not here in the US. - SilentBobSC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sleek Cell phones from Korea? Kyocera? I hope he's not talking about Nokia considering they're Finnish...
- roberts3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3and it will install a rootkit if you sync it with your computer
- molecool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dude, you said it - MOTO sucks! I wish I had my old T68 back - non-complicated and just worked. Whoever designed the MOTO UI had no clue about interface design.
- krahzee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Gotta be honest here, It looks cool, but I'd never buy it.
1) If I can't flip it closed and shove it in my pants pocket I don't want it. The whole reason I have the phone I have is so I can do this and not feel like I had yet another thing I had to carry. non-flip phones are very uncomfortable to shove in a pocket.
2)Locking/unlocking the keys on a non-flip cell is too much of a pain in the ass. Mine i just open and dial, and flip closed when done. Easy as hell esp. when driving.
3)The screen always gets screwed up on this type of phone no matter how much you try to baby it. I had the old nokia that everyone had once upon a time and the screen got destroyed. It was practically unreadable from most angles. - Boredom431, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How the hell do you put that thing in your pocket? Whoever would put that phone in his/her pocket would just look ridiculous because of it's awkward shape. Otherwise though the phone looks kind of cool. Seems Sony is going to be taking the PSP approach and have a borderless screen filled with fingerprints.
- davdav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It is not by sony ericsson. It is a concept design by another guy.
- panheaduk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It would fit nice in the hand and not slip out if you had muscular problems. If your hands shake and twitch through illness, like mine.
I would love this phone! - davdav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2LG is one nasty manufacturer
- fokuscompany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm not a big fan of the polycarbonate that covers the phone. Don't get me wrong, this is an extremely sexy phone but we all know what happens to polycarbonate after it is touched. Just look at your PSP. I would not be interested in showing this phone to friends with grease smears covering the entire front of it.
- neverender, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4looks very sleek and sexy...
but that screen will last a week before its scratched. whats nice about the razr is that its a flip phone, which protects the screen when not in use. - jasondefaoite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thana, the SE candybar phones have a non stratch coating on the cover of the LCD. First, the LCD itself isn't exposed, as it sits inside the phone with a cover over it. Secondly that cover is stratch resistant. I normally keep my phone in my pocket, and i've dropped it quite a number of items. The screen area is still like new. Apple should made the iPods out of whatever SE is using to protect the screens :)
- davdav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Motorola UI is absolutely pitiful
- schwit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All Sony products should be boycotted for a long time. Somebody mentioned that they have learned their lesson. You don't do this just to penalize Sony. You do it to send a message to the entire industry.
A few years of disappointing sales for Sony AND every other tech company will have learned the cost of screwing the consumer. - chiller2002, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I thought OLED technology still had a short life? Last I heard it was around 5000 hours (~208 days), which isn't long for a cell phone even if the dispay isn't on all the time. Then again, I'm sure they continually improve OLEDs...but all commerical OLED has to be licensed through Kodak (expensive) so it probably won't really take off until that patent expires. Anyways, the phone looks cool. I'm not really sure which "Korean" company the author was referring to, maybe Samsung (but they arn't known for their sleek designs...)? Of course many people still think Nokia is asian (it would be Finnish) and even Motorola (but their commercials lend themselves to that image--hello moto). Alright, I'm just babbling at this point.
- davdav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's just a mockup by somebody with no affiliation to Sony Ericsson
- Pogue_Mahone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Too bad its a Sony device, and therefore I will never buy it.
- n00b3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i am hesitant to say i like it because its a concept. right now. a concept doesnt not always transpire into a decent functional product. there will be lots of deviation from concept to actual product. unless, i am being ignorant and pictures are of the actual functional prototype unit.
- s0ny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2my god think of the grease marks that would be all over that phone...
- DRTtom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It looks like a baby with a big head
- zimm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2imagine how small it would be if it was JUST a phone...
whys it so ugly anyways? is ugly in or something? - charlesjillian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It looks like a remote control from the late 80s....what's cool about that?
- LoungeActx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i like the phone because it's pretty innovative. I'm a big Sony Ericsson fan because there UI is very nice, and easy to use. I still pull out the old T610 every once and a while.
- jasondefaoite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I actually prefer candybar styled phones .. never really liked the clamshells. Each to his/her own I guess. But I disagree with your points.
a) I've never had any trouble with the keypad on SE's candybar phones, right from the T68 up. And my hands ain't exactly small.
b) Curently the mass markey SE phones all ship with a 1.8" screen. The k800 will be 2". This is undersized?
c) I have never had this happen. Certain emergency numbers can be dialed with the phone locked, it's a feature (not a bug) ... try 112 also.
d) This is simply not true. I've had a k700 for coming to 2 years, and the screen area is the part of the phone in the best condition. SE phones had a stratch resistant coating in that area. - ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Looks like an iPod Nano phone pad - so, Sony, get ready for some scratch lawsuits.
- chosenone-, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8Hehe, so you guys say. But this is very practical, even if the surface looks uneven. I'm sold.
- ToddC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'm not that thrilled about it. It looks like something from the 70's to me.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2SEXY PHONE! there's something I love about SE is that its GUI is so well made and in contrast, moto's really sucks
- rob08, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2holy crap. this just looks amazing. i don't know about what phones SE have released in the US but in Sweden they have quite a history of great phones behind them, and i must say, this looks mighty tempting.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2gotta be a flip phone, i made the mistake of getting a SE bar phone and i'm regretting it, the screen is scratched all over, gotta have the flip
- _jens_, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4"Motorola look out"
hahahaha.. Motorola is so behind already, its too late for them - ynggrsshppr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Alternate link on Gizmndo:
http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/cellphones/sony-ericsson-black-diamond-159750.php - aj1215, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I think its ugly.... Even if it become the hottest phone on the market I wouldn't buy it...
The screen seems like it would scratch easily, the buttons look raised and the colors don't blend well... - LoneStar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2how could you? its horrible... the screen is like twice as thick as the keyboard!!
- logosmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This isn't a real phone, its only a mock-up done by a designer who has no listed affiliation with SE. If it was ever produced yeah, I'd trade up from my K750 in a heartbeat. Still its just a mock, not a real product. Here is the designers site. http://www.jarengoh.com/
- imagine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"It's a frickin Ipod dude.. you turn it on, you listen to music and you turn it off..." Now do you understand why people get irritated when idiotic ipod/apple stories make it to the front page??
- logosmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I dunno, I have the SE K750 and I don't baby it and has been working fine for quite a while now, 2mp camera as well. It is a euro phone but it works fine here in the states.
- davdav, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I know. People need to realize this.
