- magicjohnson, on 06/15/2008, -3/+193My roommate got such a letter, but it said that if you delete the downloaded material there will be no further charges.
- inactive, on 06/16/2008, -1/+163They can't afford to sue us all.
- RMoore08, on 06/16/2008, -5/+161DO WHAT YOU WANT CAUSE A PIRATE IS FREE!
- Rambus89, on 06/16/2008, -2/+136I for one seed until all are satisfied
- AFrei, on 06/15/2008, -10/+127That's the real way to stick it to the man. Just tell him you won't pay him and he can stick it up his ass.
***** THE RIAA! - teh_techie, on 06/15/2008, -1/+111Usually, you don't get letters for downloading stuff, it's the SHARING of said stuff that gets you into the big trouble!
- theaverageidiot, on 06/16/2008, -3/+94I've gotten a letter before. Only thing was, they shut my internet down also and wouldn't reinstate my service until I signed some papers saying I would get rid of the file and not do it again. It was the old original Call of Duty game. Funny thing was, I bought the game and played it an unbelievable amount until it was so scratched that it wouldn't work so I downloaded just HALF a torrent (the second CD) to replace it. That was a while ago, before Call of Duty 1 was really really old...
I hate my ISP. - DarkShroud, on 06/15/2008, -0/+84It's actually better to just ignore them unless you receive a court summons.
- Blah_Blah_Blah, on 06/16/2008, -1/+82don't digg him down! he has the right idea. i just linked them to goatse
- conna, on 06/16/2008, -4/+83I got a papers and I just threw them away. Nothing came of it. Not that I would worry about it. The RIAA is lucky it has not been attacked by a counter class action suit. They should be shut down for the Mob payoff mentality. Plus they are so 90's. The modern buggy whip company dieing out because of the automobile.
- dvsbastard, on 06/16/2008, -1/+722% margin of error?!
- xOKxWhy, on 06/16/2008, -1/+60I just downloaded Fedora, man, I'm a fiend.
- davewashere, on 06/16/2008, -1/+57I received a letter like that from the Business Software Alliance when I was in college. I had to go to the IT department and sign a paper that said I agreed to un-share the offending files and I wouldn't share copyrighted files again. The weird thing was that the files they named were all for software products that are given away for free by the companies that produce them. One of them was Shockwave, and I think one of the others was Winamp.
- sherbertbones, on 06/16/2008, -0/+49You're a true hero
- teh_techie, on 06/15/2008, -1/+49I think you're understating it.
- Coolmatt49, on 06/16/2008, -6/+53http://www.riaa.com/reportpiracy.php
- Dokument, on 06/16/2008, -2/+4776% of statistics are made up on the spot.
- tvanwyk, on 06/16/2008, -0/+44The problem with saying that "sharing is the risky part" is that, depending on your torrent client (and with some other p2p protocols), if you're downloading, you're uploading. And if you're uploading, any RIAA thug with a torrent client can load up a torrent with "restricted materials" and see who he peers with (most torrent clients allow you to see the IPs of your peers).
The step after they've found your IP is to contact your ISP. And then... you know the rest. - Reeze101, on 06/16/2008, -1/+42Sharing is caring, ***** the RIAA
- bagelmaster, on 06/16/2008, -0/+39Genius!
- jus1haz2, on 06/16/2008, -1/+38I'm sure they would love to try.
- digjam, on 06/16/2008, -2/+36By your roommate, I am assuming its you!
- inactive, on 06/16/2008, -2/+36The problem is that pieces don't make a whole.
If I speak or write "well then", how many books did I copy that from?
Seeders, yes, peers, not so much.
If that's the case, I want a refund of movies I walk out on or refund of ads I don't watch on a DVD. - Gotar, on 06/16/2008, -1/+35YOU ARE A PIRATE!
- DavidGX, on 06/16/2008, -1/+35Yar har, fiddle di dee,
Being a pirate is alright with me!
Do what you want '‘cause a pirate is free,
You are a pirate! - McMaster88, on 06/16/2008, -2/+332% of all the users use 98% of all the bandwidth...
- wpyh, on 06/16/2008, -0/+31Some freeware can't be legally redistributed. Read the EULA.
- TheRealToma, on 06/16/2008, -0/+31If 1 person actually pays, itll give them a bit more cash to go after 2. If another 2 pay, itll give them a bit more cash to go after 4. If another 4 pay, itll give them a bit more cash to go after 8. etc etc
- Mahoney07, on 06/16/2008, -1/+31Pretty sure 99% of BitTorrent users have pirated something in their lifetime.
- jamdogg, on 06/16/2008, -2/+31"A man who builds a thousand bridges in a lifetime is a bridge builder. If he sucks one dick, he's no longer a bridge builder, he's a *****."
- AndrewDB, on 06/16/2008, -0/+27I'll 1up that by linking them back to their website with a nice long detailed letter that talks about how they're ripping people off and signing it anonymously.
- tvanwyk, on 06/16/2008, -0/+2798 percent of RIAA thugs make the rest look like... oh, wait.
- TheWriteGuy, on 06/16/2008, -0/+26Yep. If you respond, you are essentially admitting guilt and acknowledging that you received the notice.
- orphenshadow, on 06/16/2008, -0/+25submitted 1 tubgirl link.
- bblande, on 06/16/2008, -19/+43I will vigorously defend my right to steal.
- tvanwyk, on 06/16/2008, -1/+24I don't know about "plenty," but point taken. The lion's share of Bittorrent users are blatant pirates.
- fearlessfx, on 06/16/2008, -1/+24A true pirate never pays. AaaaaRRRRR!
- cathpah, on 06/16/2008, -0/+2212 LETTERS?! god damn! is he still using kazaa or what?
- Dachublez, on 06/16/2008, -1/+23Well apparently you didn't do a very good job if hes got ~12 letters.
- DarkShroud, on 06/16/2008, -0/+22I submitted a meat spin inside of a Tinyurl.
- Drahkar, on 06/16/2008, -1/+23Actually there are pay for versions of both of those programs.
- theaverageidiot, on 06/16/2008, -0/+21The problem is that I'm one of them young whippersnappers (16) and I have no choice. Trust me though, as soon as I'm out of the house, it's a new ISP...
- johndatserakis, on 06/16/2008, -1/+21well, drahkar, what you're saying is true...after you delete the file.
When you are actively downloading a torrent, you ARE sharing it. You can't just download something without uploading something. - coltraning, on 06/16/2008, -4/+24There should be a class action lawsuit against the MPAA and the RIAA for harassment. Why can't we do that?
If they want a court case, why don't we give them one that will chill them to their bones?
Either that, or someone(s) should run for congress on the platform of outlawing the MPAA/RIAA. I mean, it's our country and we can do whatever the ***** we want with it. There's more of us than there are of them. - Vich, on 06/16/2008, -0/+19We jumped ship FROM limewire, it sank long ago...
- sfacets, on 06/16/2008, -1/+20I just submitted the RIAA :D
- zephyr42, on 06/16/2008, -0/+19Sharing is Caring motha *****!
