- mightymouse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Does that computer run on windows?
- liz4rd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4it runs linux for sure :) what else could handle it.....Windoze would crash and a MAC would would just dance around it like a fairy princess and sprinkle it with icandy
- smilesman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think this says more about the sad state of the IRS tax system...I mean, there shouldn't be a problem with adding a few more 0's - talk about scalability issues. Maybe it's just that he has so many different stock dividends, deductions, interest payments, and charitable donations.
Actually, he's probably just pissed at the government for all the monopoly issues and submits his taxes in handwriting... - zelig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wait... I thought the rich didn't pay taxes.
- barrosz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1definitely not fake as i watched it in tv on the news here at 8 o clock in portugal.
he stated that almost as a joke but sure sounded like hes the $$$man, bigger joke would be if he told us what OS that computer uses. - expensix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, Bill Gates may be too rich for a tax computer to work, but I'm positive it wont work for those executives at Exxon Mobil. Exxon's quarterly profit was $10.7 Billion. Yes, with a B. http://washingtontimes.com/business/20060130-115819-6846r.htm
- cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bragging just a little bit there, Gates?

"Goverment says people that there are too may rich people to get money for taxes and raises taxes %300 so that they can pay for the President's speech classes" - unixformat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is amusing, from the article "My tax return in the United States has to be kept on a special computer because their normal computers can't deal with the numbers" I think Billy G is refering to normal computers as Windows computers, a special computer is a Unix, Mac or Linux computer. If it was a Windows PC we would know about it. Perhaps our returns are done on Windows PC's while Billy G's is done on a unix machine.
The article also refers to several computers where Billy G's tax info is on, its the year 2006, computing power has advanced and we now have very powerful computers. I am sure we do a lot more complex calculations then a large tax return on many PC's, extreeme games, Computer arts/rendering, CAD, Virtualization, and running 24/7 heavy traffic dynamic websites. We also have some nice hardware mainframe hardware from IBM, Sun hardware may also be clasified as a special computer.
Billy G is not the only person with a complex tax return, and he is certainly does not make up a large percentage of financial transactions in the USA. - nneonneo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Maximum value of a uint32 is 4,294,967,295. Therefore, if you have more money than that and your tax computer runs on downright ***** software (programmers that can't afford to think that people could possibly have that much money--think Austin Powers), then you will have to have everyone with more than $4.3B on this "special" computer.
Hire better programmers! - olddevil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hush children ......... the Emperor is speaking!
- drewskyjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think this is "Hooey", to use a technical term. He may be the richest man in the world right now, but I bet there are a bunch of other people who have current year earnings equal to or greater than him in the US. He didn't make 47 billion in one year. So the governement is going to have special computers for every taxpayer that has over X number of zeros in their AGI? I don't think so.
However, I could be wrong. Please, someone get some facts and figures and let's see where the discussion takes us. - Kailash.Nadh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am so proud of him. Reading the news gave me goosebumps :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If it was running on Linux, I doubt they would have had any problems.
- raimis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0maybe this computer runs on MS products?? ;)
- Avatar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, we all have our little problems........
- Nipahc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I work for them... I can insure you he doesn't. That's why he gets so many like that. I work the mail at the Midwest center. Were very disorganized and it happens to everyone, more money more problems though.
As for OS... Were not about to use an more advanced OS. The tax examination system is its own in an 80's style system It seems quite lame but there "upgrading soon" so in 2020 or so I am sure we'll upgrade to something out of the mid 90's. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Funny story ... I do wonder if it's true - i.e. was the AP/Yahoo "fed" a story here (?)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...Meanwhile, the computer that stores the taxes for the lower-income folks is working like gangbusters I'm sure.
- hordak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Special Computer = computer running Solaris?? :)
- diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish I was that rich.
- BenStockwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish I had that problem.
- damonlab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0From the article:
"Last month Time magazine named Gates and his wife Melinda, along with rock star Bono, its "Persons of the Year" for 2005, citing their charitable work and activism aimed at reducing global poverty and improving world health."
WTF is Melinda named a person of the year for? She doesn't do anything. - tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bill if you read this website, I'm a Microsoft Fanboy, all the others love Macs or Linux.
(Can I have a $ million? Please?) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lmao nice one bill :)
- CZzyzx41, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like how at the end of the article they just toss in there:
"The couple's Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has a 29 billion dollar endowment making it the world's biggest charity."
How many billionaires do you know that have over half their personal worth placed into a charity organization? Also suspicious they don't mention what that foundation puts that money towards.
Ah who cares. He's rich so that means I get to hate him cause I'm not rich. - vertigoblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0uhh, my computer could do the calculations... and its not very special
- olddevil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hell, if Bill wanted to give me a bit more than 10 grand (say 1 mil), I'd not only vote for him, I'd bend over and take it like man! I for one know my place.
- jonshipman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>He isn't bragging... he's stating the obvious. It just happens to be kinda comical =)
>
>He holds the biggest charity in the world... he's a decent person, got it? Not the >monopolist everyone makes him out to be... (HAHAHA)
>
>Seriously... atleast he's doing charity with his money.
-mike p
JC Penny gave 90% of his income to charity. Gates gives like 0.02% of his income. Giving doesn't mean ***** if you've already got loads, he's obviously only doing it for PR. - PDelahanty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0#1 sign you're an ass: You talk about how you've got so much money that the IRS can't handle the calculations.
#2 sign you're an ass: You've actually got that much money. - darkinfero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0only if bill gates can give us money it would be like this
"come to the bill gates i get you 10 grand"
u could see bill running for president
10 grand for you , 10 grand for you vote for bill, 10 grand for you, 10 grand for you little girl tell your parents to vote for bill - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...so share your money...
Really, do you need to brag? - dirtyfratboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that bastard!!
- t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I feel so sorry for that man.
- two2sANDthree3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, they've gotta do that for me too...

Struth; like Lennon said: "...but you’re still ***** peasants as far as I can see". - Sequence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0But seriously, things like tax management system runs on SUN systems in secret datacenter. Sorry, no windows folks.
- JorgeGT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you guys don't understand the problem. Gates' Tax are going to be computed on a PC. Average people's tax are actually calculated by a secret datacenter of ¡¡hundreds of MONKEYS chained to desks!! That's the american dream !!
- lazyguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0... he has 47 billion dollars and donated 26billion?
holy crap. - gwjc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh yeah.. and Bill Gates is rich... "old news"

- nathanstarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Struth; like Lennon said: "...but you’re still ***** peasants as far as I can see"."
"Working Class Hero" good song......
I wish I could do that some day.
Yea, how rich would he be if he didn't have a 29 billion dollar champion. - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe he should suggest that the IRS get a MAC!
Then they can do it all on one computer, and prevent errors! - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0HAHA
Ii read the article, then commented immediately.
Same kind of comment made by many other diggers!
Scary! - TAGG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Source of Bill money found ! He is not paying taxes at all ! I wish some others folks were allowed to be stored on this separe computer that will not requere you to pay anything.
- andellmoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll take $10,000 out of his vast fortune. To him it'd be like nothing. Come Bill, Help me get through college!
- EliColburn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ugh... yahoo news.
