- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -3/+7Dude, ten years is a little early for this stuff to hit the streets. Look at ten years ago, and look at today. We still had the internet. Our businesses weren't so web-based and web-interfaced, and the web wasn't so prevalent, but not a whole lot has changed in the realm of consumer electronics. Well, we've got more LCD monitors now, and consumer GPS is cheap. But what else, really? The Eee PC? Doesn't anyone else remember the Toshiba Libretto that hit town in '96?
Electronic paper? Video visors? Autonomous robots? Three-dimensional environments? Maybe in thirty or fifty years, but there's no way in hell this stuff will be anywhere close to the consumer market by 2018. - armakaryk, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3i highly recommend reading some of kurzweil's work, specifically The Singularity Is Near (its on google books if you're meh about buying it). i would've agreed with you, but after reading that book im more inclined to think that these absurd timetables are actually pretty rational.
- Tripper44, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2and will "Boast its the next Google" and will crash and burn like the others ;)
- jer2eydevil88, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Oh common... Just like now in 10 years everyone on here will wish they could kick themselves for the past 10 years where we haven't been investing in the Google of 10 years from now.
- Tripper44, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2old school man go back to the 90's :P
- mr5150, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2I'll give you a tip people will still use and need paper....that ain't going anyware in any great hurry..you can take that to the bank!
print stuff....wipe soda up and wipe your ass....yep paper ain't being phased out in any great hurry. - maninalift, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Thought you'd found a story on Digg that wasn't about Chrome? Never! Sam Schillace makes sure of that.
- rodrigo74, on 09/05/2008, -1/+3Today's "WTF?" prize goes to you..
- orchidee2, on 09/05/2008, -1/+3I am one of those old fashioned haptic people who enjoy opening the cover of a new book and changing the pages one by one. I also like the smell of fresh ink when I fetch my newspaper (It´s a talking name, isn´t it?) in the morning and having fashion magazines on my coffee-table just to "graze" here and there, when I have the time. Unfortunately, electronic paper will become reality one day, but for me, it will never be a complete substitute!
- kishosingh, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Some will create their own search engine like cuil.
- LeviTheSmith, on 09/05/2008, -1/+2WaReZ
- Zervaman, on 09/05/2008, -1/+2All I know is that I want my super-thin, super-bright, 1,000,000:1 contrast OLED monitor! Hurry it up people!
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -2/+3"Ten years ago this month, Google's first employee turned up at the garage where the search engine was originally housed." what? actually it was housed at http://google.stanford.edu in Stanford's Electrical Engineering Department. Far from a garage... You can still go there.. punch google.stanford.edu in your web browser.
- whittmadden, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1There are only 3 types of stories on Digg right now. Stories about Chrome, the Democrat campaign, and the Republican campaign.
- alx359, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1Fine, but you'd just pay a premium for that and save some trees.
Or imagine a device that resembes a magazine/newspaper/book. It would consist of many transparent/flexible "e-pages" ready to load any content on demand. May even add a contextual "scent" output like in some games to complete the experience. - davidgohome, on 09/05/2008, -0/+0I don't think people will ever accept the visors. Bluetooth headsets are still considered somewhat of an antisocial, unfriendly product. Can you imagine trying to have a conversation with someone wearing a video visor?
- WomensUnderwear, on 09/05/2008, -0/+0***** YOU BITCH
- jggube, on 09/04/2008, -2/+1I agree, electronic paper is definitely the wave of the future. It will impact so many parts of our life, especially if you work in an office.
- Powerfan5000, on 09/05/2008, -2/+1I think AOL is the next Google.
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -9/+3***** google and ***** chrome.
'everything will run on the web'.
***** off. it is MY computer, i don't want YOUR company running 'everything' on it.
1984 passed bitch.
