- Gruesome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, it doesn't matter if English is the winner's second or third language. If you don't understand what you're bidding for, DON'T BID! I wouldn't go to eBay Russia and start bidding on stuff!
- BxBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3He should definately pay.
- team-6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Rule number 1 when I rule the world.
"Punish the stupid" - DarthPilatus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Let's agree to disagree...
P.S. Does anyone know where to get the cardboard to a gameboy box??? - AdamCo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The seller is a jerk, he was planning on something like this happening, why else would he do it? just to rip someone off plain and simple. It doesn't matter if the guy shouldn't have bid on it. It shouldn't have been on Ebay anyway, things like this and jesus on grilled cheese sandwiches is what is making Ebay a ***** place. I've never used Ebay and don't plan on it because I don't trust these people enough and this is a good reason why. Ebay is full of scammers.
- mwallace, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Lawlercopters!
- DarthPilatus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am actually not avoiding your question, the point is your question is fundamentally wrong. You cannot blame the seller because you make a wrong interpretation of the description. but to humor you, I will address the sentence:
"This auction is for an awesome condition box, complete with cardboard inside that is used to hold the PSP."
The first bit: "This auction is for an awesome condition box,"
Explanation: Well duh, it's a box.
The second bit: "complete with cardboard inside that is used to hold the PSP."
Explanation: Look at it from three point of views.
If you were looking for a box for the PSP, this may very well be important. As posted previously, i have actually bought packaging from ebay for my iMac. So if you were looking for a PSP box and read this sentence, no issue.
If you were not looking for a box and an actual PSP then the sentence is just talking about the packaging and would not convince me that this is actually a PSP. Hey this box comes "complete with cardboard inside that is used to hold the PSP." And in CONTEXT with the 1st sentence makes no claims that this item has an actual PSP in it.
Third POV. If you were looking for a PSP, the sentence "This auction is for an awesome condition box, complete with cardboard inside that is used to hold the PSP." Nowhere does it hint that this item contains a PSP.
If i was to buy a car cover for a hummer and the item stated "complete with clips inside that is used to hold the Hummer" do you really think it is reasonable to expect they are selling a hummer as well.
The guy who bought this did not read the description well. Any reasonable person who took the time to read carefully as all ebayers should (and not just get wide-eyed and hit BID!!!), would know this is just the box and packaging. If you want to get hung up about semantics of a partial sentence in a accurate description, that is a debate best suited for an English professor, not digg.com. - iKato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe he just needed the box really bad.
- WackyT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Reminds me of the blind diggers in here.
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I never get tired of these.
- theGrue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fool me once with a PS2 box, shame on you.
Fool me twice with a PSP box, shame on me. - floejoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1carrera4gt - he is actually the winning bidder, and registered in Spain. So, undoubtedly, the PSP for $200 would seem like a good deal.
However, if you check the bid history you may notice that almost all users had a feedback of 0 or negative, all came from US except for this poor guy who dropped in at the end of it but obviously had no idea what he was doing. He didnt even leave feedback to the seller, however, he recieved negative feedback. - AdamCo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why for the title have "Sony PlayStation Portable PSP system US version BOX" and not just simply "PSP Box". Surely someone legitimatly looking for a PSP box won't do a search for Sony PlayStation Portable PSP system US version Box, or any variation on that sentence other than simply, "PSP Box".
Ok, I will quote the whole sentence, which is NOT in the least out of context and that is a very weak argument.
"This auction is for an awesome condition box, complete with cardboard inside that is used to hold the PSP."
words to note, "box, COMPLETE WITH" and "IS used to HOLD the PSP"
There you go, the whole sentence, just because it is taken out of a paragraph does not mean it is taken out of context, do not be mistaken.
The seller meantions buying insurance, surely insurance isn't needed for a few dollar BOX. This is another clue that this is a trick.
Even if he had 87213648712369487612398746182734 legitimate deals, does that mean he is incapable of having a shady deal? I wouldn't be so trusting.
When the buyer wouldn't pay the $202, the seller went on to leave negative feedback on the buyer, would he have been upset that he didn't get the $202 if it wasn't meant to be a trick? I know if I legitimatly put a box for sale and the winning bid was $202 I would think someone was mistaken and I would not be upset if they weren't willing to pay, that's probably because I am not out to trick people. - sw0rdfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Funny, but a stupid Digg post
- capn_caveman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm going to sell the box for my pc.... Selling 1 box that was used to ship my computere that has a 3.2 Ghz P4 with 1 gig RAM and Nvidia 6800 Ultra graphics card. Bidding starts at 1 dollar. I can't wait to have a legal team ready for this auction.
- kevthecatslayer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This was big durint ps2's first holiday season. I was temped to sell my ps2 box and reciept on ebay when i got it. However I'm not an *****. I had a relative that got burned by a lady trying to do something similar but she had "PS2 as pictured below." Then mailed them a picture. That was a blatant lie and she got in trouble for that.
- dolby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I fear for America's future :-(
- Namingishard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How says he didn't read it?
Maybe some rich fool just wanted/needed a box? - ke4wkp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How could it have been a trick? He said it was a box plain as day. You have to read the description!!! I say the guy should be forced to pay.
- DarthPilatus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0AdamCo
To be accurate the whole thing read...
"This auction is for an awesome condition box, complete with cardboard inside that is used to hold the PSP. Shipping and Handling is only $6 for USA (includes Delivery Confirmation) and CANADA. International price is $8. Again, yes, as was said in the previous above description, this is just for the BOX, no PSP system. Just making that clear."
You tell me that paragraph doesn't state that this is a PSP BOX. Read the last two sentences! If you don't see that this then YOU need to reevaluate your thinking to be in sync with the real world. - MasterDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0here's your sign
- hasbeenhere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wat an idiot
- metamike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0carrera4gt should pay and like DarthPilatus said you don't get that kind of feedback scamming people.
- craigtheguru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The initial bidders probably were aware that it was just a box, then some blind bidders jacked the price up until all of sudden that PSP photo has gotta be worth a great deal!! 8O
When reading the auction I knew what was for sale instantly. If the seller wanted to put it up see if someone would willingly buy it there's no harm in that. He would've been happy had the winner paid $10, $15 if it included the original plastic bags and twist ties (and foam, if included).
Either way, caveat emptor. - jarinudom, on 03/31/2008, -0/+0hahahaha
- AdamCo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yes, that WAS included, but I am not talking about that, I am talking about that first sentence, why can't you understand that? You are avoiding my question about that sentence for a reason.
Again, I understand that it says it is just a box, but I am talking about the first sentence of the paragraph, just that sentence, read that sentence and then answer my question, that's all I want. I have read the paragraph, but thank you. - laserone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah I remember they were doing this when the PS2 was new. You'd think ppl would learn. :)
- driedwater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I know the seller mentioned "box" 3 times. If he really wanted to get through to the buyer that it was a box he could of added "Box ONLY" in the description.. but everyone knows his intention was to get a stupid buyer to shell out bucks. although "legal" its a lot like those spyware companies knowing that the consumer will be stupid enough to click "yes" to install the spyware. I don't like people trying to take advantage of stupid people, its not very nice. Be nice.
- DarthPilatus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh, you mean phishing... Gee i didn't know about that. Hmmm... Maybe I should tell that to my Network Tech at work so he can block those emails from the 116 computers we have there. Oh wait a second... that guy is ME!!
Look, I know you might have got ripped off in the past at the sweet shop and still have a sore bum cause your mummy smacked you for taking that $5 out of her purse but don't speak to me like an idiot...
And to use your example of a phishing email, I haven't actually read any (my work gets over 4,000 per day) that actually states before and after the hyperlink you click that this is not taking you to the site you think it is. - el_jefe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You have too many jackasses that would try to sell people crap like this. Wether it was the first time he tried to scam someone or not. Thats what it was a scam. Who in the hell would want to buy a PSP box? Yeah, I firmly believe in buyer beware. But come on, we dont need idiots out there trying to exploit the "system", in this case idiots.
- *narf*, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0reminds me of the idiom 'a fool and his money are soon parted'
- DarthPilatus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0AdmaCo
Again you left out
"Again, yes, as was said in the previous above description, this is just for the BOX, no PSP system. Just making that clear" - Squishy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Let us not forget the seller has a 99.3% positive feedback rating. If the guy is a con-artist, why are so many customers satisfied with their previous transactions with him?
C'mon, this is ridiculous. - battlefield1985, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, it's freaking hillarious...but wtf is Lawlercopters?
- Lockedout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Anyone who would think of doing this just to make money should seriously be shot in the face." - tehLazyPirate
Had to quote it, because once I read that, i seriously crapped my pants with laughter.
/salute - brucebeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hahahahhaha.. omg.. this is the funniest thing i've read today!
+Digg! - wheels999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0put simply... the buyer is a retard and the seller an arsehole
- Lockedout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@darthpilatus
Both you and AdamCo have expressed valid points within your arguments, and yes, both of you almost resorted to childlike "flaming". Unfortunately, I have to side with AdamCo. Here is my reasoning, and please, dissect it and point out my flaws in thinking if you do not agree.
Let's become detectives, if you will. I'll list them in sections for clarity.
Innocence
1. Seller does state in his description that it's only the box many times.
2. Seller has a nasty amount of positive feedback.
Guilty
1. Suspicious bids by multiple suspicious accounts that spike the pricing of the box significantly.
2. The mother of all hints! Buyer does not leave neutral feedback but negative feedback claiming that the bid is part of a contract, and stating that the buyer did not pay.
These facts lead me to believe, and of course this is just my opinion, seller was in fact a scammer, if only this one time. Why would he expect 200+ dollars for a box? Why would he get upset because the buyer refused to pay that ridiculous amount of money for a box, and then proceed to leave a negative feed back?
I do agree with you that the buyer is to blame for his ignorance, but you have to at least admit that the seller is suspect because of his actions. I wouldn't totally label this guy as a scammer, but I would seriously take a magnifying glass to all of his actions from here on out. - pbojovic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LOL - that is too funny.
- remo2012, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sad!!!!!!!!
- AdamCo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Again Squishy, just because he has a good feedback rating doesn't mean he is incapable of pulling one shady deal out of the other ones. Sure feedback is a good guide, but don't rely on feedback alone.
- link470, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol thats awsome
- Squishy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"A Sony PSP box"?
Hell, I'd pay $200 clams for one of those!!!
What territory is it though?
Hahahahahaha! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Those noobs should be banned just for bidding on this. Anybody that stupid probably wouldn't have paid anyway.
- jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0look at the bid history and you can see most of them are n00bs, lol.
- Squishy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oooh... I love a good conspiracy theory!
Maybe he was seduced by the dark side.
If so, I fear all hope is now lost... - jonrosing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0HAHAHA What a Dumas!
- AdamCo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I suggest the description be simply "A Sony PSP box" what else needs to be said about a box?
- Yaku83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This shouldn't even be on Digg, auctions like this happen all the time on Ebay.
- DarthPilatus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can't just take a sentence out of a paragraph, out of context, and use it to prove your argument. Especially when the proceeding word was box. I have bought a Gameboy of ebay that came in the original box but was wrapped in newspaper for padding. When ever i move my G5 iMac, I always put it back in the original padding that came with it. I have even purchased a replacement piece of padding off ebay for $4 two months ago. This is a legitimate trade on ebay.
Yes, I believe it wasn't meant to trick. And by the way, what magical insight do you possess that we don't to tell if this guy is a scammer or not? You don't get 875 comments with 99.3% Positive by doing shonky deals. -
