- DirtyVicar, on 01/29/2009, -1/+7Don't be monkeying around with JPEG! If I start seeing "File appears to be corrupt" messages in my older graphics programs, I'm going to kick some ass. How about calling this by a new, original name?
- TheKitchenSinkX, on 01/30/2009, -1/+5"And unlike JPEG, setting JPEG XR to record at its highest quality level loses no information to compression artifacts. "
FINALLY - dilbert, on 01/30/2009, -0/+3Why a new format? What about JPEG2000? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG_2000
- acrodev, on 01/30/2009, -1/+3I keep waiting for the "drm-enhanced" shoe to drop.
- jggube, on 01/30/2009, -1/+3Twice the compression rate? Sign me up!
- esni, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1All I know is, when there's an X involved, crap starts to get janky when it comes to file sharing. Boo.
- michaelhood, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1Well, when JPEG 2000 came out (and subsequently flopped), they used .JP2 mostly for the file extensions. It also has it's own mime-type, which would prevent any decent image program from thinking the file is corrupt.
Here's hoping Microsoft didn't manage to [allegedly] bribe this through JPEG (the group, not the file) the way they did through ISO (the group, not the file). - DavidTurnbull, on 01/30/2009, -1/+2PNG FTW!
- specialknfnd, on 01/30/2009, -1/+2jpeg < jpeg xr < png
- GlobalGizmo, on 01/30/2009, -0/+0I agree with the name. It'll only lead to more and more confusion.
