- gojcaj, on 10/21/2007, -5/+167What's so bad about GMail that needs "much needed improvements"?
- egrefen, on 10/15/2007, -2/+142I know how you feel! I, too, feel inexplicably angry and self-righteous with regard to a company which offers me over 2gigs of storage, good spam filtering and free pop forwarding for zero dollars. I mean, jeez... who the f*** do they think they are?
- KingBunny, on 10/15/2007, -9/+83Gmail is by far the best email application available.. don't know how you could possibly complain or want improvements.. compared to WHAT? Perfection??
I'm happy with my (free) POP email forwarding, labels, ability to even "send" from other addresses, and filters to organize all my mail. Bells and whistles are only good for making noise. - surfacewound, on 10/14/2007, -3/+73What bugs exactly? I've used gmail since its release and have never had any significant issues with it.
- creep303, on 10/14/2007, -1/+51I think I love you...in an over-the-Internet sort of way.
- sinkhead, on 10/21/2007, -3/+46Hrm. Gmail seems pretty good to me anyway. But I just use it for email and nothing more...
- rudy23, on 10/15/2007, -4/+43some people don realize that a product can reach a peak after a while. they are just thinking that if it doesnt change its not good anymore.
- chris_k, on 10/14/2007, -4/+34I prefer my digg submissions straight to the point, and actually linking to content

I use BetterGmail, I like the Quicksilver-ish keyboard shortcuts, "Super Clean" skin, and ability to hide spam count, invites, etc - NuchDog, on 10/13/2007, -1/+29Its an ok add-on, but I prefer my email clean and neat.
- adt41287, on 10/14/2007, -0/+28what makes it better is that your name is creep303
- blueorder, on 10/13/2007, -1/+21Ok, GMail may be 'perfect' and all like the previous commenters have mentioned but this add-on (a conglomeration of various Greasemonkey scripts) is very useful.
From converting all the mailto: links to open in GMail to forcing https to the enhanced macros to conversation previews, etc... this add-on adds a lot of functionality.
Nobody said they were not happy with GMail. But, this add-on is a great addition to a great product. - stevene, on 10/14/2007, -0/+19Most retarded comment ever?
"we all use gmail. fast and convenient. many bikers on lovebiker.com use gmail"
Plug Mutch? - rudy23, on 10/14/2007, -1/+19you need to ditch aol
- ArchangelZLT, on 10/14/2007, -0/+13You are really outta your goddamn mind.
- lordsteve, on 10/29/2007, -1/+12I don't have to pay to use Gmail. Companies who use Google Adwords pay for me to use Gmail.
- filefly, on 10/20/2007, -0/+10Hi, I'm Chris Hansen from Dateline NBC...
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -0/+8just became 3.1 gb.......... Now its 3.2.......... Well you get the picture.
- sinderphytik, on 10/14/2007, -2/+10I seriously don't understand people like you.
Just use your "labels" as "folders." There's no difference between them, except that you can apply multiple labels to a single email. And if you don't do that, then labels really are just folders.
I think about 99% of my emails only get sorted into 1 label -- so, in essence, they act like folders for me. But its nice for those random emails that need to be labeled with two things to have the option there.
Just get off of your high horse and pretend that labels are folders. Then come back and find something real to complain about. - z3rgRush, on 10/13/2007, -1/+8Agreed. Gmail is great for emailing but I don't like the idea of a centralized work environment, for both privacy / security and accessibility / availability reasons.
- pcpimpster, on 10/13/2007, -0/+7Its by far the most lite weight and fast web based email service ive ever used.
Not sure why its slow for you. - Tenoq, on 10/21/2007, -1/+8Got IMAP? :(
- theaceoffire, on 10/13/2007, -0/+6Have you tried Gmail? Don't need to delete messages, and if you archive it it takes you to the previous list.
If there are multiple emails, they are listed in one screen, in order. - bariswheel, on 10/13/2007, -0/+6Um correction, over 3 GB of storage.
- will_hall, on 10/14/2007, -2/+7Dugg down just for your conspiracy theory driven handle. Ignorant douche bag.
- specialK16, on 10/14/2007, -0/+5Opera ftw!
- Icecream, on 10/14/2007, -2/+7There we have it folks, thats what Gmail needs, a new non-generic paper clip picture for emails with attachments.
Do I need to write "/Sarcasm"? - jmreid, on 10/14/2007, -0/+5Take a seat. Right here. Take a seat.
- Tenoq, on 10/22/2007, -1/+5Asking for paid support for a free product seems perfectly legit to me. Hell - you PAY for a HP printer and the still charge you for phone support. You pay for Windows and MS will charge you for support (or refer you to an OEM who'll charge for support). You pay for NIS and they'll charge you for phone support too.
Some people. Give 'em an inch and they EXPECT a mile. WTF is wrong with you? - rootstyle, on 10/22/2007, -1/+5Yes, companies should provide high quality free support for their free products.
Hate to say it but I'm guessing your forwarding/pop issues are a technical incompatibility (most likely on your end) or simply an error between keyboard and chair. - seventoes, on 10/14/2007, -4/+8KevinRoseMustDy? What should he dye first?
- FFIO, on 10/13/2007, -1/+5Digg the souce, not blogspam
http://digg.com/software/Lifehacker_Code_Better_Gm ... - bariswheel, on 10/13/2007, -0/+4Yeah There's no way I'm using any other extension besides the ones I've been using for a while, there are too many chances of memory leaks, I don't need them.
- urby86, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3The reason I initially downloaded Better Gmail was to keep my signature from falling to the bottom of replies. Better Gmail keeps your signature above the appended chain of previous messages in the conversation. I do like a few of the bells and whistles, but when it comes down to it, the reply functionality is the only reason I have it installed.

- pcpimpster, on 10/14/2007, -3/+6Gmail is the best web based email service I've ever used.
No clutter, fast, massive storage, google search of my email and virus protection. - aaronm67, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3Try using the Yahoo mail beta for a little while. It integrates all of Yahoo's services much better (RSS feeds especially), and the entire interface seems more like a "Outlook/Thunderbird/KMail" type interface, which works pretty well.
For example, when you view your inbox:
Gmail - you are shown a full list of your emails. When you click a message, you are taken to the message, to return to view a different message, you have to go back and click a message
Yahoo - you are shown a list of your emails. When you click a message, the message shows in a screen below, to view another message, you just click on a different one.
Given, Yahoo mail is still ACTUAL beta (as in fairly unstable, not that supportive of browsers), while gmail is just in "google" beta, there are definitely many features gmail could add. - Bamborzled, on 10/14/2007, -3/+6"lack of skins"
Seriously? Question: Do you look at the email client or the email? Plus, it's not like Gmail isn't pleasing to the eye, if not somewhat plain. - FFIO, on 10/13/2007, -0/+3Agreed, GMail is pretty cool as it is. But it gets better! Try the plugin, man, and you will be even more happy with it!
- faxxy, on 10/14/2007, -1/+4It's incredible how Gmail's interface pretty much stayed the same since day one - clean, simple, clutter-free, useful.
I work in a fast-paced real estate company where we've been using Gmail for the last 2 years... what a joy to use. Can't imagine using yahoo or hotmail for that matter. - ortucis, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2Is there anyway to import labels in some email client from Gmail? I have been using Gmail since.. ever (when it wasn't open to the public) and love it. But I want to use it with some email client now and the only thing preventing me is the fact that I have emails that go inside different labels (filtered) in the online version. I want that in offline :(
- intlbeans, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2I agree. Here's another link to the script on Mozilla's official addons site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/486 ...
- jj2me, on 10/14/2007, -2/+4Yes, I have and I like it. I was only trying to point out to people that Yahoo now has a web-based e-mail client that works like a local client (Thunderbird or Outlook or Netscape), with panes and fast reading (previously a big reason to use a local client and IMAP or Exchange), reducing the usefulness of local e-mail clients to offline access.
As you point out, Gmail is a different paradigm. If you aren't using Gmail, or aren't correctly using the Gmail paradigm, but instead have a local e-mail client, or like to delete e-mails, there is a web-based alternative that may fit your needs. (Especially for those in Yahoo groups, where you usually want to delete messages often.) - MadOtaku, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2You can set mailto links to open in webmail by using the google notifier. Which, btw, is an excellent app.
- the1wraith, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2seconded.
- bdawg95, on 10/13/2007, -4/+5Umm, if you have a Gmail account, you can always add google reader to your homepage...Its a lot easier than using a hack...Also, I havent found anything wrong with Gmail yet. But, maybe thats just me.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -1/+2When i click on an email from gmail preview when signed into personalized google home page, it doesn't give me the option to delete that email, i have to then, go to www.gmail.com and then select to delete it, i wish when viewing an email i could see this option?
- supervan, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1Also a Gmail fan who thinks Gmail is pretty close to perfect. Here’s one thing I wish they would do that will bring it even closer to being perfect. When composing an email (new or reply) to add recipients, you start typing and you it shows you matches that you select from which works ok, but I’d much rather have a list all my contacts shows for me to just click on each one I want the email to go to. The way hotmail does it. Off course Gmail is much better than hotmail in all other respects. Just had to get that off my chest.
- cliffzdude, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1"People like me"? So I have a preference, and on a community where we discuss features of tech back and forth, on a forum where the idea is just to share your opinion, since my opinion doesn't agree with yours I'm "one of those people"?
Well, to answer how people like me can see an advantage to folders, allow me to share. Labels don't MOVE my email into a segregated pot, they stay out in the inbox en masse. I and others prefer to segregate messages into a folder by subject, sender, whatever, or delete them. That's how I stay on top of my email. I have many associates whom I communicate with via Gmail instead of my work email. I know I'm not alone, the desire for folders has been posted here on Digg on many an occasion, and by many whom I work with. As I work in IT for a living, the opinions of those whom I associate with and work with are less than dim-witted "high horse" statements. As you state 99% of your emails get sorted into one label, then its easy to see how I utilize email is foreign to you. - thekuro, on 10/13/2007, -1/+2this is one of the most useless extensions i've ever seen. i'm dying to know how someone can think a much needed improvement to gmail would be to add something completely unrelated (blog reader) to the gMAIL interface. yea i know there are other features...like COLORED LABELS! WOWEEE!!
- mihkeltt, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1that's the thing, i have about 500 old emails that got transfered from the second email account to gmail, which i'd like to go through and remove unwanted ones. which direction would you go? i'd just sort by sender and then batch delete the ones i don't want anymore. sounds pretty logical - doesn't it?
