- ViperDaimao, on 10/12/2007, -10/+64let them block all those sites, then watch as all their customers flock to roadrunner or satellite.
- radu79, on 10/12/2007, -1/+47Actually, the article claims the opposite: MySpace and YouTube blocked the Bellsouth ranges.
This is not surprising, we do the same thing (we have a small MMO). This is due to the fact that the BellSouth guys will not care about the abuse reports we send them, and since their users can change the whole IP class at will, it is impossible to block just their IP, or just one class.
This, combined with the fact that their AuP is practically unenforced, we have little choice but block the whole ISP. - Araya213, on 10/12/2007, -7/+49geez man you missed the point entirely
- bigpru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23I would digg this if there was a good story being linked to. I would like to hear more details on the when and why.
- danraydotorg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22"The war has begun. The war of net neutrality."
That's, honestly, a really awful attempt at gravitas. - Joose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Funny, all of those sites work for me (Bellsouth 1.5 DSL).
On top of that, the website the article link makes no sense.
No digg.
Edit: Actually the web page links to some random guy's myspace.

Talk about a reliable news source. - ViperDaimao, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Way to miss my point guys. I was talking about bellsouth customers moving to competitors such as RoadRunner, Cox or whoever provides satellite service in the area. Calling it cable is irrelevant, this was a business comment, not a technology comment.
- gozu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I have bellsouth and I access all those sites just fine.
Check your facts before posting. - ericnmu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10no facts? no digg
- szelij, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Is this...serious? Its a gross violation if its true. The websites mentioned will certainly sue the pants off bellsouth. It'd be bad publicity for the opponents of web neutrality-these websites are huge and used by a lot of people....if this is a taste of "freedom" then non-techies will likely back the web neutrality bills.
- SamuraiPanda, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I agree 100%
I'm not going through all of those stories just to find something worth reading. I demand linkage! - Xyrx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10That's quite an assumption that Bellsouth is purposely blocking these sites. -digg
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Just what we need, more uninformed Florida voters.
- geekee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7What a load of FUD. This has nothing to do with net neutrality. In fact, with net neutrality laws, technical glitches are going to generate lots of frivolous lawsuits by people claim content was purposely blocked.
- HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I doubt they are blocking sites. Maybe they are having a similar problem as Digg had earlier today when they were down in certain areas?
You sure these sites aren't based out of Sweden? - samdu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Satellite Internet via HughesNet (formerly DirecWay, formerly DirecPC) is $100 down and $100 a month for 700 Kb/s. I don't think people will be "flocking" to that any time sooon.
- NickyBatts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Okay Technorati ***** suck... it never EVER works for me, can we promise never to link to it?
Thanks. - Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4They could be having technical difficulties. From the blog posts that came up in your link, several people were saying the problems were "intermittent". I kind of doubt any ISP would be stupid enough to do this.
- ArchieAndrews, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I would just like to congratulate all the folks who dugg this with 0 confirmation or backing story. Good work everyone, let's not let confirmation or accuracy stop us from having a good story on the fp!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Gee, I guess no one bothered to look at the Bell South website and check their network status. They are having problems with DSL in Southern Florida.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is there any indication that it's bellsouth blocking youtube et. al., or could it possibly be that youtube et. al. are blocking a block of bellsouth IPs?
We don't even know who's doing the doing, much less why. - sonnyF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm having the exact same problems in South Florida. Don't know what's wrong. It can't be a DNS issue because I'm not using Bellsouth's name servers. And when I use Tor, I am able to connect to all the sites without a problem.
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7MOVE 'ZIG'
FOR GREAT JUSTICE... - dnthomps, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5How to get around it if you are in Florida: http://omg-its-dezz.livejournal.com/5464.html
- ldhertert, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5dont' worry, the deceiver confirmed this...so it must be true.
- blatheron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2BellSouth denies they're blocking either site:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1971082,00.asp - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8im from miami, fl using bellsouth fastaccess dsl. i had issues as well as some friends of mine which also are usin bellsouth. we have all been havin difficulties loggin on to myspace as of wed around 5ish pm. i was able to log on midday yesterday, but no more. i doubt that it can be a tech difficulty. torrents, usenet, and the like work perfectly fine. many websites work minus myspace, youtube, and the like. very interesting matter. i suspected net neutrality foulplay, but up to now thats jus a huge assumption. ill get back to you guys on this, if only i knew peeps that didnt use bellsouth =/. p.s. as about 2 weeks ago i had bellsouth dsl routinely fail on 2 consecutive fridays from 12 noon til about 10-12 night. another friend of mine has had consecutive down times as well, something fishy is going down? *shrugs as for the MTU, i have to agree i have had that issue myself... ill get back to this
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That's one of the worst digg links I've ever seen. Is there some sort of story here or is this just a random blog of truncated "information?" Is there a story that someone could link to? I guess I'll Google it and see if I can find something to link to.
- masterofshadows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2thats funny, here i am sitting in orlando using bellsouth and I am able to get out just fine to any of those sites, however i never go to any of those sites so if it was out earlier i would not have known
- tgraham, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Technorati doesn't list any blogs... is this a wind up?!
- Wiggles2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Maybe it's their lunch break
- nahoda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It was only happening this morning, unfortunately Digg was also being blocked for me and I couldn't post a comment.
- Shroomie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm using BellSouth DSL in Florida and I can get one all of those sites. YouTube wasn't working last night and is really slow right now, but it works.
- timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why would they sue Bellsouth? If they could do that, then porn sites could sue schools for blocking them there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If you must get on mysapce, youtube, facebook, etc...proxies i say!
I am 100% agreement with Net Neutrality...it is the right thing, and the sane thing to do. Data is data; simply 0's and 1's. - pokey9000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In a world... where telcos rule...
The customers fight back.
NET NEUTRALITY
This time it's personal. - alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2reported as bad link for a link to a search results page
- deesnutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We use BellSouth Extreme DSL and we can get to ...
http://www.youtube.com
http://www.democratgiftshop.com
http://www.myspace.com
with no problems at all. Like someone said above, it's probably the same issue digg had earlier. Or was it that Bellsouth was blocking Digg also? Hmmm. Very interesting. - theoallardyce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1disgusting, if this is true the net community should pull together and declair nutrality war on them - make sure every bellsouth customer is aware of this, make sure they are all given easy options to switch providers, maybe get other providers to do discounts and deals to steal every single one of these dirty ***** customers.
- davidleeroth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree... I live in Orlando with Xtreme 6.0. The ***** works, but I think bellsouth is having some problems because my speed has been slow on almost everything. This happens, don't freak out people!
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1did this get buried?
- alantocheri, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Thought it was funny that one blogger is complaining that they can't access myspace at work. Shouldn't they be working?
- crapolaho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm in South Florida, too, and youtube, facebook, and myspace won't load.
- tagnarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tom had posted on Myspace earlier today that it was getting blocked and he was trying to contact them to get it resolved
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is there a real link for this? I don't want to read some high school student's ***** blog. Find a real story and submit that. No digg for high school gossip.
- mjh2901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am not a Florida bellsouth customer so I can't do this but. Can't someone who is in Florida, on Bellsouth DSL, and unable to get to Myspace, youtube etc... pick up the phone call tech support for bellsouth dsl and get the person over in India to confirm it is being blocked, or if they screwed up there DNS server or something like that. Some of the unconfirmed reports state that they have been having DNS server issues. It could be true, but I always thought DNS was an all or nothing service. It is there and working or it is down and you can't get to anything. To have a DNS problem only affect a few specific sights... is fishy.
But please its not that hard to confirm 10 minutes on the phone is it. - hemphill81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Posted it a few minutes ago.
http://digg.com/technology/BellSouth_Says_It_s_Not_Blocking_MySpace - BT-Wang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I wonder why I've never seen a front page digg story linked to technorati before.....
technorati is not in any way a source for news.
but the headline was excellent, so many diggs, and they can't have read the article or whatever technorati has.
....ass - Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, take a look at the comments to see the total lack of intelligence. Every post is like "OMG! Myspace cravings out of contol!!11! Declare war on them all!" 'Tards.
- jeshjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Myspace yes, face book no.
I use facebook as a way to contact classmates for school work, and to contact old friends that has moved away.. -
