Bell, Telus to charge for incoming text messages
nationalpost.com — "The growth in text messages has been nothing short of phenomenal," Gratton said. "This volume places tremendous demands on our network and we can't afford to provide this service for free anymore." I guess this means Telus and Bell will take the extra 15 cents per received text message and upgrade their network. Right?

- BobsYourUncle, on 07/08/2008, -0/+9I'm more upset about this than the iPhone. I can choose not to get an iPhone. I can't control who text messages me. Once again, Canadians are getting ***** in the ass by cell providers. And with the current oligopoly, there's nothing that can be done about it.
- mysteral, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3This is insane.... After Rogers, we should boycott Bell and Telus now !!! ***** you all !
- undermine, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4My contract is done in a year, I will be looking for an alternate route. ***** YOU CANADIAN CELL PHONE COMPANIES!!!
- assbeard, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3I am a bell customer. I only want a cellphone to act as a phone... Text messaging is retarded. I should be able to tell Bell that I don't want text messaging enabled AT ALL on my account. Apparently Rogers is saying this is a good reason to switch to them. Ya, right.

- bicycleman, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5We need to form up a consumer union against these companies. I think a class action lawsuit would be a good start to.
Add me on a friend if you are interested in forming something up with this idea. I have great connections and resources for web technology. We should get every user on one web site so we can take back control.
There is absolutely no reason these companies should be acting this way when we now have number portability. Just don't sign a contract ever Ever EVER!!!
-Consumers need to take back control
-Stop signing contracts
-Use the power of number portability
-Demand and walk away if ignored.
I'm tired of this crap, someone is going to pay.
- erydan, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Check Canadians.com they seem to be trying what you are talking about.
- assbeard, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3Anyone know anything about Koodo? Are they a subsidiary of one of the big 3? (Like Solo Mobile is owned by Bell etc etc)
- bishonen, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Yea, they are a Virtual Provider under Telus.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koodo - mmn100, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Since receiving the notice from Solo, I have been researching all of the alternatives and discovered that Koodo is owned by Telus! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koodo_Mobile
- assbeard, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1BOO! Solo and Koodo piss me off for this exact reason. I want a 4th option, like Fido was before They were stolen... oops, I mean bought, by rogers.
- bishonen, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Yea, they are a Virtual Provider under Telus.
- bicycleman, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4I really hope this gets dugg to the top of the pile today. The more PR on this the more likely we can get product managers at these companies fired.
- erydan, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3Will they be changing the conditions of our contracts? That is the question. If the answer is yes then we should be able to get out of them which is good news for me.
- mysteral, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Don't be surprised if Bell and Telus hire a spammer and pay him 5 cents for each spam message he sends...
- cableguy84, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1i might as well start sending smoke signals at this rate, first rogers and the iphone now bell and telus with txt messaging.
Dam Shaw Cable hurry up and get that cell phone service that you have been talking about for 4 years running already. - ck53, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2"The growth in text messages has been nothing short of phenomenal," Gratton said. It was free???? Pretty sure i'm paying for every message i send, and every message i recieve... someone's paying for that too..... - 1digga, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2This is bull. I cant wait till new carriers come into canada. (or they might all get bought out by rogers)
i dont even know what to say about this stuff no more, canadian cell phone companies are geting way outa hand.
iphone prices suck, text messaging services suck, paying extra for call display sucks!
all these comapnies have to do is look south of the boarder, there plans are a million times better then ours here in canada!.
i was hoping that these companies would allow free nation wide calls like american companies allow, but im not even gonna go there! they cant even get the smalest of the features right - RadioVibes, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1The obvious question here is: How do 2 competing cell phone companies launch this at the same time? Collusion, that's how. More evidence the big 3 are working together to artificially inflate rates so consumers have NO choice what to do or where to go. It's high time something is done about this. This should be illegal and is truly anti-competitive! All the CEO's of these companies should be taken out in public and dealt with by the average citizen.
- artfuldodga, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't mind paying all these ever increasing f*cked up service fee's if the money was re-invested in the telecom/cellular infrastructure, but its become apparent that's not the case what with their "our networks are clogged!" so F*CK BELL, and well...***** you too Telus.
- hotshotmedic, on 07/09/2008, -0/+0yah this is retarded!! in addition to the bs of charging for incoming texts they are also forcing my fiance into a new contract stating that they no longer offer her plan. she has been month to month since her contract expired about 6 months ago. now that bell is taking over aliant here on the east coast, they are calling her daily trying to get her into a contract. here is my question. if they no longer 'offer' the plan, how is it that if she agrees to a new contract they will let her keep it? nickle and diming man, smoke and mirrors man. I HATE cell phone companies, but cell phones are so necessary today that we really have no choice. I could go with rogers if i liked NOT having service everywhere. Can't wait till someone starts charging for the air we breathe. (sarcasm obviously)
