- nyls, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Digg. An easy to follow introduction. The article mentions using Audacity: it is a very good audio recording program, especially given that it is free. But it is not the easiest program to use for beginners.
The best software by far for making podcasts is Apple's Garageband 3 - see http://www.thegaragedoor.com
For PC users there is a list of free recording software on
http://www.software4free.org/recording.html
with features and recommendations. - AhmedF, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5This is interesting. I don't personally care much for podcasts, but as someone in the field (blogs etc) it is a good read for me to figure out how things work.
Personally I do think that as more and more old people get online (50+), 'podcasts' will become more and more popular. Not sure how much it will pan out with the multi-tasking culture that are most of us (here at digg). - burke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4the term 'podcasting' was in use years before Apple started using it. I guess listening to mp3s makes us Apple-loving ***** because they sell an mp3 player as well?

1. Get Microphone.
2. Open up Sound Recorder.
4. Record Voice.
5. Convert WAV to MP3
6. DONE!!!!! - digiprod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I found this great informative blog post on podcasting with tons of info. Check it out:
http://www.reelsmart.com/2005/09/16/simple-steps-to-creating-a-podcast/ - farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Interesting that you reference a podcast you enjoy in your post about how podcasts suck.
- Bishoco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I've really gotten into podcasts lately. I listen to talk radio a lot, and podcasts are like creating your own talk radio station.
Some of my favorites:
diggNation
Penn Jillette's (of Penn & Teller) radio show
The official Lost podcast
The Ricky Gervais show is great, but you have to pay for the new ones
Various NPR podcasts
Ask a Ninja is silly fun.
Anybody have any good podcast reccomendations? - silvercold88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3heres a VERY useful video for starters from systm with Kevin Rose, Dan Huard, and Leo Laporte.
http://revision3.com/systm/podcasting/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Alternative means of recording include importing an existing voice recording (say, from a portable media player with recording features, or from CD), and recording a VoIP conversation/interview (i.e. roundtable discussions)."
Currently I am using talkr for our podcast. it is a very simple install. I looked into using one of the voices at nextup.com and some of them are very life like, but who really wants to hear a computer voice.

I don't know why digg is screwing up the links. I tried to make them genuine links by prepending "http://" but it made the links an offset of something on digg.com instead.
I posted these "links" to another related thread that few are probably reading by now. - wisewaif, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Some good podcasts are:

A great educational podcast! - wisewaif, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1A good way to get started is using some server side software called Loudblog:
http://loudblog.de/ - silverSurfer84, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1That guide is crap. All you need to know about podcasting you can learn right here... http://youtube.com/watch?v=OEmss2lg-ug
- Konquest, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Please tell me how the words "very in-depth" can go along with "for beginners" without making people looks at you strange.
- llafDOg, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1All no0bs should stop right now, before they make some horrible sounding crap..
- madcat87, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Am i the only one who thinks that podcasting sucks ass? I mean whats so special about it ? Some guy recorded his voice and posted it in the Internet ... Big Deal. I prefer to read an Article rather than listen some ***** voice.
- teckjunkie, on 10/12/2007, -15/+3Podcasts suck... besides if i wanted to learn how to do a podcast/vidcast I'd rather watch a clip done by french maids telling me how to do it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=TnnaI-ttFVE - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -24/+2Yeah, but I call it "listening to MP3s" because I'm not an Apple loving *****-sucker.
