- KarlH, on 11/29/2008, -11/+573Dr. Digg: "Congratulations, ma'am! You have given birth to a healthy boy."
Woman: "Wait ... I thought it was supposed to be twins. Where is the other one?"
Dr. Digg: "Oh, I buried it as a duplicate." - obliviousfool, on 11/29/2008, -39/+470Buried. Dupe.
- doublefelix, on 11/29/2008, -3/+336This guy is The Master of minimalist web design. Makes google and linux sites look too busy.
- vashth3stampede, on 11/29/2008, -25/+194the reason that it's up again is because someone new who wasn't here 637 days ago submitted it and then new people who also weren't here 637 days ago dugg it. if you're annoyed by the same headline then just scroll passed it, if you open up to the comments and then say "BURIED THIS WAS HERE 637 DAYS AGO I SAW IT THEN I DON'T NEED TO SEE IT AGAIN NOW, ASS" then you're a dick. sorry, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
- deeptube, on 11/28/2008, -28/+186I agree with Keven on this one.
- nikpappagiorgio, on 11/29/2008, -28/+163OK, so 2 years is acceptable, a few minutes is not. What is the cut-off?
- KevenM, on 11/29/2008, -9/+144Just use your judgement. Personally, if it's been more than about 5 or 6 months, and especially good, I'll digg it, or at the very least, not bury it.
On the other hand, if it's like the Macy's Day Parade getting rickrolled, a bazillion duplicates all within hours of one another is kind of pushing it. - Dementual, on 11/29/2008, -3/+105Congratulations, you've made seven people in this room literally rofl.
- MrShinra, on 11/29/2008, -1/+100He'd do even better without all that text getting in the way.
- kss42, on 11/29/2008, -1/+65A guy from Canadia who joined Digg on July 19th, 2007
- youRrich, on 11/29/2008, -18/+81Yes, you are.

- KevenM, on 11/29/2008, -2/+48Actually I do build sites. I put this article up on an as-of-yet-unused site to avoid the whole "this guy is being selfish and trying to increase his traffic and blogspam and buried-as-spam and ***** this and ***** people who try to earn a buck and blah blah blah and I really should get out of the house more instead of pointing fingers at people I don't know all day long"
- getter1, on 11/29/2008, -8/+49637 days old isn't news.
- mmmben, on 11/29/2008, -2/+42peanut butter jelly time!
- yogurtslinger, on 11/29/2008, -0/+40tree fiddy
- Paulish, on 11/29/2008, -0/+39How much do you think it would cost if I payed him to design my website with something like that?
- mithrasinvictus, on 11/29/2008, -0/+37Give digg an indexed hall of fame. I think the frontpage should be for NEWs.
- KevenM, on 11/29/2008, -1/+33who said I wasn't trying to earn a buck?
- Timbertron3000, on 11/29/2008, -11/+40In other news, Irony suffered a painful death today at the hands of merciless digg users.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -6/+33If you remember it, bury it.
Those who don't will digg it.
Digg doesn't need to be told what to do. The dupes get to the front page anyway precisely because those who haven't seen it will digg it.
Democracy's funny that way. - UNL1M1T3D, on 11/29/2008, -0/+25I'll go get the mop and bucket.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -11/+33People bitch and complain about this ALL the time.
Call the Waahmbulence. - Vbp6us, on 11/29/2008, -9/+30But it says "Please avoid duplication by searching to ensure nobody has submitted a link about the same thing."
- occasus, on 11/29/2008, -1/+20If I've seen it before I don't digg it, but I don't bury it either.
The real problem is that it takes a lot more than submitting to get a story to the front page. - vanjab, on 11/29/2008, -9/+26The problem with your theory is that you think digg should bring up old crap to cater to people who are amused by ancient memes.
Digg is a 0day news site. There are plenty of sites where these people can go (newgrounds..) to see all these old "treasures". Digg should be about cutting edge stuff. - bstew22, on 11/29/2008, -2/+1942... says "i'm experienced... but i'm still here to party"
- kawaiirobo, on 11/29/2008, -1/+16well Jerry, apparently according to the diggs, a lot of us on here agree with him, so why don't you go act like a smug bitch somewhere else, he's only trying to help and providing a rationale behind what he proposes, something I doubt you've ever done.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -0/+15I've read that comment before.
- vanden9, on 11/29/2008, -2/+1642 - The Answer to Life, Universe, Everything

http://digg.com/tech_news/Before_you_Bury_that_Dup ... - hellyes0, on 11/29/2008, -0/+12Agreed. When a dupe gets enough diggs, obviously there were enough people who hadn't seen it to make it to the front page. If it's still funny, why not?
- newman8r, on 11/29/2008, -0/+12peanut butter jelly with a baseball bat?
- Alchemist7, on 11/29/2008, -6/+18Golden rule, bitch.
- ozziek, on 11/29/2008, -1/+13Does Mr Babyman submit original stories?
- DisposableRob, on 11/29/2008, -0/+11I plan on resubmitting it in 638 days. Or is that too soon?
- jman583, on 11/29/2008, -4/+15http://digg.com/odd_stuff/Peanut_Butter_Jelly_Time ...
Now let's make this happen! - MrWally, on 11/29/2008, -1/+11Neither is Peanut Butter Jelly Time or a Picture With Flash and Without Flash.
637 day old news is rarely duped.
However, some things on Digg are just silly images that I meant for laughs. - inactive, on 11/29/2008, -0/+9You gotta wait two years to make that comment.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 11/29/2008, -1/+10I'd like to know when making a buck through being innovative became a bad thing.
- danielphin, on 11/29/2008, -1/+10the second was within the anti-spam threshold :(
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -3/+11Just make a "Netscape Classic" category on digg. No one gets left out.
- sockpuppets, on 11/29/2008, -0/+7http://digg.com/tech_news/Before_you_Bury_that_Dup ...
- douglasr007, on 11/29/2008, -2/+9It's not like the Internet composes of material other than digg and I can't search my previous history of things I've dugged....oh wait. There is. Learn to use it.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -0/+7Short term memory.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -1/+890% of the comments aren't really relevant anyway...
Democracy's funny that way too.
Everybody thinks there's a "good way" to be the member of some social news site. - JustinHopewell, on 11/29/2008, -0/+6I'm sure that was meant as a sarcastic comeback, but I can't figure it out.
- heavyd14, on 11/29/2008, -4/+10WTF is Macy's Day? It's Thanksgiving.
- scarymoo, on 11/29/2008, -0/+6Okay, so I propose a solution. There's definitely a lot of classics on the internets that said inter-newbs have not had the advantage of experiencing right?
So how about Digg gets a little tab perhaps right next to "Upcoming" that says "Classics" or something like that. People can re-elect stories that have been already submitted say from at least 6 months ago and we can digg those. This way people who don't want to see old stuff don't have to and anyone who hasn't had the opportunity of seeing that old dog licking your screen clean story can still see it. - jamwil87, on 11/29/2008, -0/+5I was a nosy little *****.
I'm sorry. -
