- Blackmane, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Also if you Bury a story it disappears, which is great if you don't want to see it. But it is a pain if you want to find it again. I like both the search and the new general look. Even though it does take me a while to find out where everything is.
- nymphetamine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The only problem I really have is that when you go to your profile, and say you want to go straight to the Videos or Podcast section from there, you can't. What's up with that?!
- tomboy501, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4yeah, this quote from the digg blog post didn't make sense: "..new one-click bury, you no longer are required to choose a reason when you bury a story — this aims to help us get more feedback from people about what they don’t like (by making it easier to bury) so we can make more accurate determinations about unpopular content."
Seems like the extremely popular 'General Bury" gives less accurate info, waters down why people are burying, and plays into the herd mentality: "don't think...just bury" - perkonis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I noticed that if you refresh the page that any buried stories show up again.
- grumpyrain, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4You want to find stories you have buried?
/looks puzzled - msaleem, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4That, and the fact that you can 'one-click bury' anything will further decrease accountability.
- misterpony, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I can see the points here, but I disagree. What accountability needs to be in burying? As long as it's used to help clean up stories that the community doesn't want, I think it's a good thing. And it's great to see those stories disappear, I bury them because I don't want to see them, and when they were greyed out, they were just taking up space.
As far as the herd mentality, it's that what digging is, too? If there were a propotional number of burys to diggs (I'm totally guessing there is not, just because of the very few stories that actually get buried), then the Upcoming pages would be cleaned out faster, allowing the good stories to surface faster. - theshizzler, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I wish there were a way to not show videos.
- ThinkBox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I love how msaleem blog wasnt submitted by him. I guess he wasnt fast enough :-p haha j/k
- tomboy501, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Just by going off what is posted on the digg blog, they say they want more 'accurate determinations'. There's a big difference between an "okay, this is lame" bury vs. a "spam" bury. One is like a personal preference where the other is more functional. A lot of specific spam buries on certain sites definitely show trends that can help staff clean up the site. I would think they would want to tap into that info.
You are absolutely right about the digging with a herd-mentality. Is it any better to blind digg all of your friends' stories without even a glance?? (we've all seen it on diggspy) ..and put a lot of crap on the front page that really shouldn't be there? Mass-burying a bunch of spammy sites from the same url posted one after another?...now that's progress! - hella81, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I would like an option to open stories in a new tab instead of a new window.
