But can I surf the net? - superflydugg, on 07/30/2009, -1/+21I work at a B and N part time. god the whole store is going to be crawling with laptops.
- Miraa, on 07/30/2009, -1/+16Ooooo, free WiFi!!! News!!! Put out a press release! *sarcasm*.
- DiggAnomalous, on 07/30/2009, -1/+16Will it also include complimentary power strips & comfy chairs that don't smell like a bum crapped in it?
- mmd1080, on 07/30/2009, -5/+16"By providing no-fee Wi-Fi access, we are not only meeting our customers’ needs, but extending the sense of community that has always been in our stores."
Steve Riggio, CEO of Barnes & Noble
Try looking further than the description, perhaps read the article. - mrmayor92, on 07/30/2009, -2/+12welcome to 2006
- AmericanGunner, on 07/30/2009, -0/+9Hey everyone, this guy has an iphone ^
- numberneal, on 07/29/2009, -0/+8you know where i'm @ during crunch time
- crackerjack20, on 07/30/2009, -1/+8Wow, what a great idea. Now I'll be able to find a book while I'm shopping in person at a B&N store, then I can log onto Amazon from my iphone, order the book, and have it delivered to my house the following day, and for 60-70% the cost B&N charges.
- victorycig, on 07/30/2009, -0/+7Stay away from my book store, please...
- glasszach, on 07/30/2009, -1/+6Better yet, check prices against Amazon prices using your new, in-store free wifi, often you'll save at least $5 and get free shipping.
- ElAmo, on 07/30/2009, -1/+6Any one else have issues with logging onto Starbucks/ATT wifi on iPhone/iPod Touch?
Most of the time it doesn't work for me. Just loads but doesn't get to the login screen.
Hopefully this isn't like that. - makeboomboom, on 07/30/2009, -0/+3lmao
- makeboomboom, on 07/30/2009, -0/+3how is B&N a second rate book store
- TakeyMcTaker, on 07/30/2009, -1/+4I would be much more excited if I had any B&N stores in cantenna range. :(
- Domthedude001, on 07/30/2009, -0/+3Now everyone look at me surf the web using the store's WiFi!
Man, I love going out in public. - zmigliozzi, on 07/30/2009, -1/+4Everyone look at me type my novel.
- victorycig, on 07/30/2009, -1/+3Yeah, it should be news if a business does not offer free wifi to attract customers.
Now, if they were giving out free 802.11n routers, I'd go buy myself a book. - bipolarruledout, on 07/30/2009, -0/+2Might as well just get a macbook air and be done with it.
- Domthedude001, on 07/30/2009, -0/+1Gizmodo didn't make the comment. A user did, whom, might I add, did not place a copyright under his comment. Gizmodo doesn't state that the comments made on the site are property of Gizmodo, thus the comment was released under free domain.
- ibeetle, on 07/30/2009, -0/+1B&N was never in partnership with Amazon. It was Borders and Amazon that had the online (only) partnership. And that ended over 2 years ago.
- rusty0101, on 07/30/2009, -0/+1Well, so long as they are 802.11n approved standard based routers. OK, I'm not that picky, Pre-n will work I guess.
- seanwuzhere, on 07/30/2009, -0/+1Nope. Works great for me.
- Domthedude001, on 07/30/2009, -0/+1How dare they!
- rusty0101, on 07/30/2009, -0/+1To be fair, the free wifi is for all, not just for iPhone users. The free app that they described is an iPhone app, however they may also have (or not) apps for other smart phones as well.
I have to check out a few more shops, but Caribou Coffee at some locations has free wifi for all users, as do Dun Bros Coffee. No logging in and authenticating that you are a customer even, though I'm more than happy to contribute by buying coffee from them. (And I don't like coffee.) - Domthedude001, on 07/30/2009, -0/+1I believe in Starbucks, WiFi is only offered to iPhone users (unless spoofed).
- LVDave, on 07/31/2009, -0/+1I'm sitting in one right now, surfing and sipping a nice glass'a-tea from the Starbucks counter... Since this *is* AT&T, after all, I wasn't at all surprised when I arrived, and fired up the laptop, there was a nice "attwifi" accesspoint, but once I fired up Firefox, it took several tries over a nearly 10 min period (went up to counter to get my drink) to actually get to the ATT page... sure enough, no login needed...
- rusty0101, on 07/30/2009, -1/+2Wonder if the B&N/Amazon deal is still in effect. I seem to recall that Amazon was working with B&N to be the local 'pick up point' for books bought on Amazon's website. That was a couple of years back though, so probably no longer in effect.
- ElAmo, on 07/30/2009, -0/+1which device are you using?
- BrownieMix, on 07/30/2009, -6/+6Borders > Barns and Noble
- Bartboy919, on 07/30/2009, -3/+2*****!!
- Maraud3r, on 07/30/2009, -1/+0LOL @ LOL @ fish heads!
- Clark, on 07/30/2009, -8/+7This just in!
Second rate book store gives out free internet at its third rate coffee shops. In other news, there was always free wifi down the street at your locally owned coffee place. - kaosethema, on 07/30/2009, -8/+6"...for iPhone users..."
when did iPhone users learn to read?
doesn't apple cater to people who don't know how to navigate complicated systems?
good job alienating everyone else burns&ignoble. - st7601, on 07/30/2009, -3/+0LOL @ fish heads!
- Miraa, on 07/30/2009, -4/+1At least give credit to Gizmodo for you comment. Buried for being a rip-off artist.
http://gizmodo.com/5324522/barnes--noble-catches-u ... - JasonHaley, on 07/30/2009, -6/+3I guess the news is more about the service going "nation wide" than them offering free wifi since my B & N has had it for awhile.
It's slow enough and awkward enough for me not to use it much. Think about: There are few chairs and everyone who actually wants to read a book will be wanting that chair you're hogging. ..No thanks, I rather go somewhere where I look a little less like a douchebag. - energyx, on 07/30/2009, -5/+0i hate people and their damn laptops too
- BossKey, on 07/30/2009, -7/+1Wake me when Barnes and Barnes offer free wifi and fish heads
- ivanmarsh, on 07/30/2009, -7/+1...pays for it by overcharging customers (allegedly)... make sure what you buy there scans at the same price it's marked with.
- galore, on 07/30/2009, -9/+2WiFi? 2009? Would have been interested a few years ago. Won't bother to turn on WiFi on my 3G phone.
- protodon, on 07/30/2009, -17/+1Too bad Borders is better and more widespread and I have an iphone.
