- luckyjonny, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20nailbunny's a lumberjack, and he's ok.
- nailbunny, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21Dear sir,
I wish to protest in strongliest possible terms about the last sketch. Many of my friends are lumberjacks and only a few of them are transvestites.
Yours,
Nailbunny (Mrs.)
P.S. I never kissed the editor of radio times. - aristotle0dude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14While what you say is true. I think the point that you missed is that bamboo tends to have a faster growing cycle and requires less resources than say a pine tree. Bamboo is basically a weed.
- 15charmaxwtf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I dunno where you come from, but water is pretty cheap here.
- Wardvark, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Looks really nice, too bad it doesn't come in widescreen.
- nailbunny, on 10/12/2007, -9/+19While i must admit the monitor looks badass, i couldn't ignore the rationalization the guy gives for buying it.
"The nice thing about bamboo is that it's a grass, rather than a tree. As such, it grows like crazy and doesn't face the same problems that massive deforestation does."
This is, for lack of a better word, a stupid statement. Now, digg people are smart, and probably already know what i'm going to say. However, i'll get it out there anyway just so we're all clear on this.
Apart from the semantic error, this is based upon the assumption that deforestation is an inevitable consequence of the lumber industry. If lumberjacks just tooled around hacking down old growth forests without replanting, the world would already be bald by now.
See, trees are a renewable resource. There are farms, where trees are grown, chopped down, and grown again. We call these farms "tree farms". Complicated, isn't it?

It's the same damn thing as a bamboo farm. - Polymira, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12That's just cool .... And I usually absolutely hate wood grain stuff (in cars, homes, etc)
- Rigbymatt, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Made in China of course
- Gregd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I'm sure as the demand grows, so will the options....
- lbtori, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10saaaaad panda
- AeroSquid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8i have tons of bamboo growing in my backyard... a forest of monitors awaits?
- ShadowRider, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Not very :(
- pegisys, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7would look great with one of those wooden PC cases
- nailbunny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6no, but on the bright side, it's headed for your front yard, too
- emo1313, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5How about this http://www.treehugger.com/files/2006/04/bamboo_mouse.php from LifeHacker, to go with the monnitor...
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It looks nice, and I would order one if the prices were more reasonable. 600(USD, according to xe.com) for a 19" novelty bamboo monitor doesn't really cut it for me. I'd rather spend 200-300 on a similar monitor made out of plastic, y'know?
For someone with the extra cash, though, I guess it's a cool idea. - drizek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Not all our wood is from farms though, we buy a lot of stuff from canada and brazil.
- kevnaca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5That is ubber cool. I am getting a little bit fed up with the usual plastic and metal. Too bad you'll need to import it over.
Bamboo keyboard and mouse to complete the look:

- nailbunny, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6right. and the clearing of old growth forests is a problem.
- abbtech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4One of the first computer items that can be sanded and refinished if you scratch it :)

http://hackedgadgets.com - applejackson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4hmmm.....I wonder if theres a bigger risk of fire.
- MrTea, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6I wonder if it would be the most expensive thing that had a "Made in China" label.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3These (as well as all other computer related devices) can already be had in any exotic wood imaginable.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Sort of reminds me of a wooden toilet seat.
- Wireddd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3you mean they make things places other than china?
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3We used to have a wooden toilet seat, they're actually pretty comfortable.
- ender52, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Cutting bamboo is not deforestation, because bamboo is a grass and grows extremely fast. They get it from a farm. Nobody is cutting down rainforests to get bamboo.
- kevnaca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How about a bamboo pc case? It actually would be cool to have. I too don't like the entire wood look like in rooms and such, but this display isn't too chabby. Anyways it's a different texture than wood.
- AeonTorpor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What? Can't be funny anymore? ***** hive minding. Digg == We are Borg
- zalaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I like it alot. It does add a nice warmth to the monitor. Cool.
- Gargot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You can also get the bamboo mouse to go with it ;)
http://www.treehugger.com/files/2006/04/bamboo_mouse.php - fishgeekva, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2not my taste, but still cool
- nailbunny, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3back in my day, if you wanted a window in your case, you got a dremel and plexiglass and made it happen.
these newfangled cases seem a bit of a paradox to me. stock customized - Pigglesworth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I thought a Panda would ecstatic at the thought of a computer monitor that they could consume. (I know Panda's don't eat the solid "trunk" of the bamboo grass, but I'm just making a joke)
- supes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool idea, but what's next wicker?
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How did that chick- joke about Pandas go?
Umm....something like---
How is having a musician- boyfriend like having a Panda?
He eats shoots and leaves! - nailbunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1bloody hell, how do i unpost these things.
- turion64, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Get ready to share your monitor with termites.....just kidding, its a cool concept.
- jacks0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm. It looks nice, but remember that it must be properly treated. 1. You wouldn't want the thing being eaten by termites. 2. If the moisture becomes too great, such as humidity, it will expand, and the lcd will snap due to external forces. Otherwise, looks good!
- Rickler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Way to expensive... £323.. that is around 600USD.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1...And the best thing to use with that bamboo monitor:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/ - nailbunny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1whats with the creative capitalization?
i'll agree its some splendid stuff. i'll be damned, however, if i'd ever plant the invasive business anywhere near me. i've seen it take over. i'd like to see the slowest possible introduction of the plant to NORTH america. - danimal84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1that looks great, though they're just a little on the small end for me. Id love to see my 24" widescreen with a case like that. I know it really doesnt matter what a monitor looks like but its good to see a different design out there. i feel like the current computer electronics have been going for this obnoxious future look, for example at the local computer store they didnt have any cases except for ones side windows and LEDs and all. i guess i dont want my computer to look like a "decked out" honda civic
- icebrand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.tanomi.com/limited/html/00040.html
- HamHockg25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'd hit it
- grayling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone know of a wooden (or bamboo) keyboard with wooden _keys_ ?
I think it looks really cheap with the plastic keys on the wooden keyboards. Kind of defies the whole point. Show me a keyboard where the keys are made out of wood with the text engraved and I'm buying. - StarWarsFan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool. Dugg!
- scriabinop23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1actually, at the san diego zoo recently, i saw some pandas munching on some pretty HARD shoots of bamboo. Looked like they were munching on wood to me... I heard some crunching and snapping sounds, so I don't think my vision was failing me. I really wonder how the hell they do that. Bamboo has incredible structural strength. Perhaps the variety of bamboo they were eating looked and sounded harder than it really was ...
