- kevinrose, on 11/20/2007, -3/+55I just voted on my first item, the little teletubby jumps up and down...wicked.
- macaddct1984, on 11/20/2007, -1/+35So any site where you can vote on stuff is copying Digg?
- dfltr, on 11/20/2007, -3/+31we really should get daniel on implementing that asap. maybe just copy the teletubby and photoshop your face onto it?
- inactive, on 11/20/2007, -1/+25Does it really have to be said again?
DIGG DID NOT INVENT VOTING! - laterthandawn, on 11/20/2007, -0/+13You mean "Good ideas done poorly."
Ebay will come around though...they've dominated that market so thoroughly that they have plenty of wiggle room, generally speaking. They would have to TOTALLY blow it to fail. - fishpen0, on 11/20/2007, -1/+14There have been "best of" lists for years, you can't say that they stole the name from Craigslist.
- coolian, on 11/20/2007, -1/+10The UI looks pretty nasty.
- TimEllis, on 11/21/2007, -0/+8How unoriginal!!! Cause Digg invented voting, and Craigslist invented the phrase "best of"! LAME!
- grendelboogie, on 11/20/2007, -1/+9Nah, the little digg man should joyously wave his shovel in the air on a digg or start digging a hole on a bury.
I really don't want to think about his behavior on a "Share". - theutopian, on 11/21/2007, -1/+8I have an idea. How about eBay return to the free market vision of it's founder Pierre Odimyer(or Omidyer - not sure). I've been an eBay user for about 10 years and have been using it less and less recently. eBay used to be a great place to get cheap stuff, used stuff, and new stuff cheap. Now it's just as overpriced as a store. Whether it's people overcharging for shipping or getting away with high prices. Their fees are sky-high to the point where it's not worth selling a DVD or book anymore, especially with everyone driving down prices because they charge $9.95 to ship a DVD. I'm sick of it. I propose setting up a site modeled on eBay on the early days. A cheap place to sell stuff via auction that isn't the controlled market eBay has become. I know Craigslist is becoming a great alternative, but it's primarily local. If eBay wants to be relevant in five years, they are going to have to change their ways. I work for a company that sells on eBay but we don't make in money off it. We sell on eBay to create links to our store where the prices are pretty much the same. That's the problem, eBay has been taken over by the large corporations. Rant over.
- dillyhoo, on 11/20/2007, -1/+6Ah, so that WAS sarcasm. The label helps me appreciate it.
- ltkerr0r, on 11/20/2007, -1/+5Not copying
- TomFrost, on 11/20/2007, -0/+4...when *didn't* Beta mean "don't blame us if it's broken"? If software writers didn't need that disclaimer, "beta" wouldn't even exist :)
- inactive, on 11/21/2007, -0/+3*****! Who in their right mind will vote for a item if you're interested in bidding? Giving the spotlight to the item you're interested just will bring more bidders.
- DubbleA, on 11/21/2007, -0/+3Is this really the best that eBay has?
http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/6893/ebaylf5.pn ... - BrandonAbell, on 11/20/2007, -1/+4Doesn't Ebay own a piece of Craigslist? Not really stealing if it's yours, is it?
edit: i shud reed da summuree. hurrrrr. - skyfire1, on 11/20/2007, -0/+3This is a stupid idea. Now ebay vendors will be hiring voting brigades.
- turrican, on 11/20/2007, -0/+3"Best of eBay" *copying* craigslist..? That's kind of a stretch, no? Kind of like Amazon suing others for having "one click purchasing"..
- TheSpook, on 11/21/2007, -0/+2What is this asshattery? When I tried to vote, it asked me to login and I got this message:
"To protect your account, eBay requires your consent before we share your information with another company ... By clicking on the "I agree" button, you're authorizing eBay to share your information with Best of eBay. "
So in order to vote, I agree to allow them to sell my info? What other company??? Very lame. - willj89, on 11/21/2007, -0/+2It has a search function! They must be copying Google too!
- EPeters, on 11/21/2007, -1/+3***** looking site, however, I found something cool already! Bid on it people.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item ... - KingGorilla, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1but it did make it convenient
- clafleche, on 11/21/2007, -1/+2I didn't know Craigslist was the first place to ever put the words 'best' and 'of' together
- Topher06, on 11/21/2007, -1/+2Please, for the love of all that is good, no other website in the universe for the entire history and future of the web should every copy Craiglist ! There can only be one Craigslist, and that is enough.
- nastajus, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1but human brains work inaccurately.
- saifatlast, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1Thanks for telling us your rant was over. Otherwise, I might have thought that the rest of the page was still you talking, just under different names.
I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said though. - airmann90, on 11/21/2007, -0/+1I agree, these kinds of posts are getting annoying. Buried for inaccuracy.
- surfing, on 11/21/2007, -1/+1Are there any "articles" on valleywag over 100 words?
- ravencin, on 12/21/2007, -0/+0whatever, i'll just use http://craigslistit.com nobody will copy that lol
- LordLandon, on 11/21/2007, -0/+0Check the Q&A section C=
- kevcool, on 11/21/2007, -1/+1Yeah this does seem counter intuitive. Just replace displaying votes with displaying bids - that's their core business after all. How do they seed this "best of" to begin with and what's the ultimate goal? I saw an auction for 60 dozen ugly teeth (probably with high lead content and made in China) near the top. Would be curious to know how that auction arrived there.
- AROZ, on 11/21/2007, -1/+1Why does ebay have to change the site anyway beyond security matters? It's a damn market. Simple, basic. Buy, sell. Capisce?
- inactive, on 11/21/2007, -1/+1Wow not going back to that site.
- xaviermeng, on 11/21/2007, -1/+1interface design is terrible
- LivefishComAu, on 11/21/2007, -0/+0There are already plenty of alternatives to ebay - like scoodi.com
- meethalima, on 11/21/2007, -0/+0That site looks messy. My goodness.
- Antexter, on 11/21/2007, -1/+1Digg is just a site, and their are thousands of digg clones.
I know at least 10 off the top of my head.
Ebay is just following a bandwagon and their is nothing wrong with that. - inactive, on 11/21/2007, -1/+1FYI Ebay owns 25% of craigslist. And digg is not the first of its kind, nor the last. Esp since they'll sell out...arguably they already have.
- cycac, on 11/21/2007, -1/+0Isn't this just screaming for fraud/manipulation/spam?
- AmplifiedMedia, on 08/19/2008, -1/+0If you want to sell on more on eBay then you should think about getting better product shots.
check out Bling! It - www.blingit.us - this site shows you how to transform product shots and boost online auction sales. the Bling! It app. automatically optimizes your images for eBay, Amazon, eBid etc.. - now that is cool - AmplifiedMedia, on 08/19/2008, -1/+0If you want to sell on more on eBay then you should think about getting better product shots.

I thought it was a fake name and I couldn't remember the real name of the popular auction site.
- Konstantino, on 11/20/2007, -11/+2Well, at least it's entertaining. I'm sure this can be used in a useful way though, regardless of the fact that digg invented the concept of voting.
/sarcasm

What is Digg?
