- LeFrenzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'm dying to get a BBC world news podcast. sigh. IPTV is booming in the UK thx to the BBC, I really wish they'd let the push outside the UK!
- MasterRuthless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This should help:

"That in discussions between Prime Minister Harold Wilson and the BBC's chairman they talked about whether there were too many "hippies" in the corporation. "
Hehehe - treytech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0come on guys, we need a uk proxy
-------------------------------------------------- - ozz109, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hope they continue to add more content.
- Bloc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wheyyyyyy UK!!!
we actually do own. - Portwineboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg, even though I'm not in the U.K. I hope this is a trend that other broadcasters will follow. I would imagine the rights holders of older newscasts would make more money from the ads views on pages that offered this content than they do right now by sitting in a vault.

- chadell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll start paying my TV licence after the trial period
- Electric_Sheep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's UK only because anyone that owns a TV pays a public fund to the BBC through the licence fee.
- yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OLD NEWS...
http://digg.com/search?search=BBC+Open+News+Archive&area=all&type=both&age=all&submit=Submit - incubuz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The content is available in 3 formats:
Windows Media :-(

- staind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0try using http://www.hidemyip.net
- kilps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Funny how the UK public paid broadcaster is really good at this kind stuff, and they have great news which is also accessable online ... in South Africa we also have to pay tv licences but the content sucks and their is no great online news or anything like that :(
- deut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can also listen to all the archived radio shows as well for free.
For you American folks, don't forget that by law, all UK householders require to purchase a TV license. At the moment this costs £126.50 for a colour set and £42.00 for a black 'n' white set. (!) This is purchase every year.
So in a sense, the BBC is effectively a subscription service. However, I do think in recent years it's become quite good value, especially the on-line content.
Now, if only they would embrace MPEG4 ! - J3bu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Been around for a month or so - old.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0THat's pretty old..

- AttroPheed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0isnt BBC publicly funded? they should be able to watch anything they want any time they want anyway.
- Bloc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ok. bbc own.
- qster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Give it a couple more years and we probably will be able too!
Also check out the Superstar JV's, looooads more free footage to play with there, all under the lovely creative archive licence. You rock BBC! - FCastle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0about time to being a Brit

*yawn* *whatever* - KyleGoetz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In the USA, our taxes support National Public Radio (NPR - radio) and Public Broadcasting Corporation (PBS - television). So, we have a system similar to the system in Britain. However, our taxes are not clearly outlined, so many people do not know our taxes support it. However, it is not completely funded by our taxes, and the governmental funding was almost cut off this past year.
- niggs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0no you don't :)
- Chango_Family, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Ahh yes, british news, mainly consists of: some old biddy waving at a crowd of peasants, her inbred family waving at the peasants, her slutty ex-daughter who was gonna marry in the biggest arms trading family in the world waving at peasants, PM lying about war in the balkans, football riots, race wars that no one wants to admit to, PM lying about war in Afghanistan, weather forecasts (rain and more rain), Dr. Who conventionneers, more old dowdy broads waving at crowds, PM lying about war in Iraq, Geldof and Bono giving Bush and Blair a nice public BJ this summer, some descendants of the old crow doing something at boarding school, dental hygiene reports, royal menstruation day (more old bats waving at crowds of peasants), british Olympic preview (2mins only since...well just look at their sports standings), and so on.
They should release this to non-UK residents since no matter how shyte the programming, non-brits will hear that accent and believe that they are listening to intelligent programming.
