- TristanTee, on 06/16/2008, -54/+368Torrent users still use Azureus???
uTorrent FTW!! - bballbackus, on 06/17/2008, -3/+296Wow, Vuze was the worst part of Azureus in my opinion.
- vfreak2, on 06/16/2008, -9/+189Azureus was not a half-bad client, used it for a while, too bad it is no longer. Vuze is bloaty, horrible, and probably meant more for the limewire-loving p2p user getting into torrents...uTorrent is the way to go, at least for the seasoned torrent user.
- Kasot, on 06/17/2008, -7/+136Everything is bloated and slow compared to µTorrent.
- nnny, on 06/17/2008, -14/+130Mac OS X and Linux Users: Use Transmission
- Dutrho, on 06/17/2008, -2/+68Is this where the Azureus/Vuze user base drops to zero, I used to be a user up until Vuze came along, uTorrent ftw.
- AsSubtleAsABrik, on 06/17/2008, -25/+83What's wrong with Azureus? I've been using it for years and feel very comfortable with it. And I think my 2 gig of memory can handle one java app.
- EricG, on 06/17/2008, -4/+60you can change your preferences in Vuze to make it work and look like the old Azureus.. What I did.. took all of 1 or 2 minutes..
- eminn3m, on 06/17/2008, -5/+57As if Azureus wasn't enough of a resource hog as before Vuze.
- Regulator980, on 06/17/2008, -4/+55All these issues can be solved by going to:
Tools -> Options -> Interface -> Start
Uncheck:
Show Splash Screen
Check for Latest Version when Azureus starts
Check for Latest Version periodically
Auto download updates and prompt when installation is ready
Automatically open the Update Assistant when and update is available
It's all customizable, guys. I use Azureus with no problems or issues. - inactive, on 06/17/2008, -1/+52I miss the days when Azureus was just a nice BT app. It really was a feature laden app that did everything I wanted on 3 different platforms. Then it became some kind of ***** weird app that did strange things I never gave a ***** about.
- NyMb09, on 06/17/2008, -13/+64I had ridiculous memory leaks with Azureus, if i left it open for more than a few hours it took up all 2 gigs of my memory. Every new release i hoped it would be fixed but it never happend. I've switched to utorrent and never looked back!
- doctechnical, on 06/17/2008, -3/+49I moved to uTorrent from the Blue Frog. the only regret is the lack of Swarm View that the froggie had. That was a great way to show newbs a visual map of what was really going on, what a Torrent was.
- Rapter09, on 06/17/2008, -2/+46Vuze really killed Azureus.
As it stands, i'm going to keep using the version I have now in the Advanced mode. - Disregard, on 06/17/2008, -0/+40The second I saw sponsored videos popping up all over the screen instead of, you know, my ACTUAL TORRENTS, I started getting Realplayer flashbacks.
- MasterGrief, on 06/17/2008, -0/+39When Azureus turned into Vuze, I switched to a version of Azureus I had from before the change. Now, every time I turn on the program, it tries to get me to update it, and I just hit cancel.
I really like the old Azureus. - jakash, on 06/17/2008, -4/+41RIP Azureus...
Look on the bright side, at least Vuze is easier to spell! Whoopdeedoo! - zachtib, on 06/17/2008, -1/+38As one of the original creators of Deluge, I'm happy to see my project recommended, but the Mac OS X port isn't really that great. I've actually been working on getting it to build and run today on my Leopard install.
It'd be nice to have a native Cocoa (Or whatever toolkit Apple is using now) version at some point, maybe after 0.6 ships this will be feasible. - NICU, on 06/17/2008, -4/+33I can't believe programmers allow bloat like this in their programs. A program should be a tool that's good at 1 job (just like a function should do one and only one thing). These days too many programs are growing and bloating trying to be your media manager, contact manager, social portal and a ton of other crap that you already have better tools for. What a horrible decision on their part. uTorrent is still the best and will be as long as they keep the bloat out.
- CMKCot, on 06/16/2008, -4/+32on windows that is...
- Jerky1312, on 06/17/2008, -4/+31I installed Vuze, because I needed an alternative to uTorrent (was crashing my system when used with a private site), and after 5 minutes of use I realized how bloated and completely unnecessary most of the features were for me and subsequently uninstalled and deleted Vuze from my system. I'm currently using BitTornado, but I'd recommend uTorrent to others over Vuze, as that was my number 1 choice until the system crashes.
- angusm, on 06/17/2008, -0/+27I keep a copy of Azureus around for those rare occasions when I need a bittorrent client (Mr Reznor, I'm looking at you). Each time I fire it up, I'm annoyed by all the Vuze junk and the prompts asking me if I want to download more. If the makers have decided to focus in future on the part of the program that was entirely worthless to me and a constant source of irritation, then I guess I'll be uninstalling it pretty soon.
I'll miss the cute little froggy, though. - inactive, on 06/17/2008, -2/+28yup.
- Falldog, on 06/17/2008, -15/+40Let me know when uTorrent comes out for OSX. I'm sorry but Transmission sucks.
- Depravo, on 06/17/2008, -2/+24As far as I'm concerned, Azureus was dead the moment they added Vuze.
- triskele, on 06/17/2008, -4/+26I dunno why you're getting dugg down. I use Transmission, and don't have any complaints.
- mildewmedia, on 06/17/2008, -0/+19Social network attached to torrenting. Is this the FBI's dream come true? Arrest a downloader, then arrest everyone on their friends list.
- vfreak2, on 06/16/2008, -1/+20Yup, if you ever need to grab a random torrent, uTorrent doesn't even require install, tiny file that doesn't suck resources like other clients.
- CoreOverride, on 06/17/2008, -2/+20Deluge is pretty awesome for the Linux platform.
- JayD16, on 06/17/2008, -2/+19I use Azureus and just turn off Vuze. Seems to work fine for me.
- Kingoftherings, on 06/17/2008, -3/+20Transmission is a fairly decent one for Linux, it doesn't have as many options as uTorrent, nor the nice data on the bottom, but it downloads stuff.
Transmission is fairly comparable to the Official Bittorrent Client. - AtomB, on 06/17/2008, -1/+18In Vuze you can change it to the classic look and it works and acts like the old version only better. I have tried switching to Transmission and other alternatives but none are as fast as Azureus. I am a mac user so uTorrent isn't an option right now.
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -0/+17Azureus is not bad as I am using it right now. Vuze is a piece of *****.
- T3hJ3hu, on 06/17/2008, -1/+17***** fail.
- DigDugDigger, on 06/17/2008, -3/+19As long as you can handle the memory footprint, Azureus 2.5 is still the best torrent client for Mac. I look forward to the day when I can use something more 'Mac-like' but so far those clients don't come close in terms of features.
- mrfreeziexp, on 06/17/2008, -3/+18Azureus had slowly become more and more bloated. I switched to the lightweight uTorrent and never looked back.
Long live, uTorrent! - bbqsalad, on 06/17/2008, -0/+15Agreed, the latest version works great. But whatever happened to a mac version of utorrent?
- jpop, on 06/18/2008, -2/+16Pretty much the same for me. Performance issues and memory leaks drove me away from Azureus. It had some nice stuff and I liked the interface though.
- Brennan, on 06/17/2008, -1/+15Azureus being java has nothing to do with getting around firewalls...wow.
- ninxmz, on 06/17/2008, -4/+18I am a seasoned torrent user and I use Azureus. Who's with me?
- apache2, on 06/17/2008, -2/+16Try Deluge.... basically an open source uTorrent
http://deluge-torrent.org/ - itsradBrad, on 06/17/2008, -0/+13Vuze developers are crying as they read these comments.
Ha ha ha ha haaaaaaa. (evil laugh) - Schmich, on 06/17/2008, -11/+23I like the Azureus UI. uTorrent on the other hand looks like some cheap P2P program like Limewire or Kazaa.
- solidcube, on 06/17/2008, -0/+12Azureus has kind of sucked for quite a while now. It's way, way too heavy and the interface is horrible and clunky. Oh, and I would never use Vuze in a million years.
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -1/+12For Gnome users out there, may I suggest Deluge? It's a pretty good client, full-featured, pretty lean and fast.
- lemur, on 06/17/2008, -0/+11I tried Transmission since Fedora chose it as the default client and found it much to my liking, actually. Despite being very simplistic (like the official client), I discovered that I didn't really need it to be that complicated to be happy. Before that I was using Deluge, and that is actually very nice with its features and options.
However, I'm back on Azureus because I still found it to be the best client for my needs. I tend to rely on its auto-throttling feature as well as numerous other niceties like built in tracker, and every option imaginable (even the ones I thought were Deluge-only).
As for uTorrent, I have to admit that it's a nice client (fast, compact, feature rich), but it's closed source; forget about it. It's not like I would never used closed source software, but closed source bittorrent to me seems stupid and crazy. - theblacknight, on 06/18/2008, -0/+11What do you dislike about Transmission? (Seriously, I'm not trying to troll.)
- thaddeusj, on 06/17/2008, -1/+11Even in the more current Vuze releases, you can completely disable the Vuze content layer. My only gripe is that since I don't do it often, the last couple of times I installed Azureus >= 3 I spent like a half hour trying to find the option to turn off all the Vuze stuff.
I hope they maintain the "classic" interface, which could be more accurately described as an advanced torrent management view. I especially hope they maintain the ability to turn off Vuze all together, maybe even make it easier to find =D
Other than that I couldn't give a damn what they call it. - manacit2, on 06/17/2008, -2/+12Its faster, dosent have a lot of useless features, but still has a lot of features, it dosen't eat up your ram, it performs better, it has a cleaner interface
anything else? - jrburkh, on 06/17/2008, -2/+12Transmission has gotten much better over the past year. It used to be very basic, but it has become increasingly more customizable. No complaints here either.
