"Attempted infringment" appears in new House intellectual property bill

arstechnica.com — Even some kinds of "attempted" copyright infringement could be punishable by prison terms under new intellectual property legislation. Will it affect you? Probably not. One of their concerns is that a small change to the law could have big effects on casual file-sharers.

  • CoolKoon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0How can you be so sure about that? Especially after the fact that RIAA has tried to prosecute even single home p2p users! Oh, and another POW is that of p2p technology providers', which could be prosecuted for aiding copyright infringement. Well, I hope this law won't be passed or the p2p development will have to be moved to Australia again.....
  • mindwar23, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Unlikely to effect P2P, since the statute will still require that criminal infringement be for financial gain. I doubt the courts will choose to sink into the mire that the RIAA has gotten itself into.
