- spamfiltertest, on 12/11/2007, -8/+33This is the biggest things I wish google.com would implement. I would love to selectively delete some data from my account.
Though Ask is doing this, there is no way I am moving to them. - xXMetalJesusXx, on 12/11/2007, -0/+16Finally, now my wife-to-be will never find out I'm really looking for gay singles on ask.com when she sleeps.
- mikewitt, on 12/11/2007, -7/+22They do. Click on "Web History" in the upper right corner of any google page. You can delete things selectively, which I have done in some cases. I don't know if you can delete everything, but you can delete any selected items, so just cover your tracks wisely.
- rudy23, on 12/11/2007, -0/+11unfortunately no ones uses ask
- pyrotechnick, on 12/11/2007, -2/+12Because, because, you are you are baked, baked.
- alchemist27, on 12/11/2007, -0/+9wtf
- Murdats, on 12/11/2007, -2/+11actually they dont sell it, google is an ad agency so why would they help their competition.
and if its stored mostly anonymously internally then whats that matter, I would be more concerned about someone accessing my machine and checking from there rather then someone at google (or god forbid, the US government) looking at my search history. - habu, on 12/11/2007, -0/+8dugg for being a link to Yahoo! News.
- aywwts4, on 12/11/2007, -0/+7Just you and the baby jesus, and would the baby jesus approve? Tsk tsk.
- hayzeus, on 12/11/2007, -0/+6Unfortunately, when you actually click on a link I can pretty much guarantee that the site to which the search engine refers you is logging your IP along with the search terms you used since they will show up in the referring page URL params. If you really want privacy, you'll need to turn off the referer header in your browser settings.
- avothecat, on 12/11/2007, -1/+7nope. google's said lots of times that they keep the data even after you delete it. also counts for gmail, no mail is ever deleted.
delete with google means hide from the user end. - Golov, on 12/11/2007, -0/+5Google it.
- quickgold192, on 12/11/2007, -3/+8I'm think this just deletes your history on the user-end. I'm pretty sure google keeps "anonymous" records for their data crunching.
- mbthompson, on 12/11/2007, -7/+11That's not accurate. Yes, it removes your personal web history from access by anyone outside of Google, but they still track the websites you visit internally, and then sell that data to interested 3rd parties like ad agencies.
- inactive, on 12/11/2007, -1/+5Excellent, now I can search for dubious things without anyone knowing! :)
- jayhawk, on 12/11/2007, -2/+6i just deleted my entire web history in Google. Click on Web history and then you have the option to delete any single or multiple items or the entire history. You can also choose to not have Google track your history, fwiw.
looks like Ask is following Google; however, there was no fanfare when Google did it. - sajnikanth, on 12/11/2007, -2/+6but..but...I can do this on Google already
- jamief00, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4Why? Either
1) Don't post stuff you don't want coming up
2) Use an ever changing alias
3) Stop moaning - DarkNemesis618, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3It's a nice feature to have, and I've used ask before. Quality of the results doesn't match google though.
- aywwts4, on 12/11/2007, -3/+6You can. I just deleted everything from google.
- whuddafugger, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2This won't help with the data that's already there. Like all the drunken midnight ramblings I posted to Usenet a few years back, which is now easily searchable by friend and foe alike.
/skulking away - Otto, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2You cynic.
- mikehill33, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2stupid.
- rudy23, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2or just copy link and open in new window
- mikewitt, on 12/11/2007, -2/+4Oh, I just checked, you can clear your entire history. When you click on Web History, there is a column on the left side of the screen, select "Remove Items" then at the top of the page, select "Remove all items >>"
- EvilNapkin, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2I think something else that they need to do is allow you to set how many letters are needed before the search engine decides to "fill in the blanks”.
I think Dane cook say it best.
“I don’t need to hit A and auto fill in Asian ass porn when my girlfriend is searching for a apple recipe“ - zweben, on 12/11/2007, -1/+3@Murdats:
Because as long as the information exists somewhere, there is still a chance that the government can get their hands on it. - donnydarko, on 12/11/2007, -1/+3That was funny, have a digg.
- cbartlett, on 12/11/2007, -2/+4Anonymous my ass. Call me a cynic, but I don't trust Google.
- flamingmb, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2How do you really know that they are gone though? You can really trust anything on the interwebs.
- jamief00, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2"delete" from the majority of places means hide from the user end. I've seen countless Enterprise level systems, storing countless bits of information about countless things, and pretty much all of them have followed the "deleted flag" approach, rather than the "remove the row" approach to deletion.
- fintler, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Google already does it.
- pyrotechnick, on 12/11/2007, -3/+4Google needs to follow suit.
- spamfiltertest, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Sweet... thanks! For the longest time (or that I can remember) that was not an option on the search results. Thank you once again.
- WalesAlex, on 12/11/2007, -1/+2I just deleted Google.
- fani, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1I went from Yahoo - Google - Yahoo - Ask - Google - Yahoo for my searches.
Have been on Yahoo for a while now. I found results more relevant than google.
Maybe time to switch to Ask.com - avothecat, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Yeah, true. I even coded my own website to use a "delete" flag rather than actually deleting comments.
..does that make me evil? >.> - Blafhert, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe you should spell your keywords right...it could help...
...Revelancey? - inactive, on 12/11/2007, -1/+2Because you like to move it move it.
- vawksel, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1.
- jay2000, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1haha yeah no wonder it gives ***** results
- Shorties, on 12/11/2007, -1/+2Ask.com, the number one search engine used by the white house!
- xXMetalJesusXx, on 12/11/2007, -3/+4Some people have really ***** up fetishes...
- vawksel, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Ask can add all the vertical features, 3D wizz bang effects, automatic thumbnails of sites, cross search to news/images and their "smart answers" all they want.
Until they actually have a search index that's even %90 of what yahoo's and google's is, I'm not going to use it.
Why search on a platform you KNOW in advance doesn't have all the links... Just go to the guy who does. - op12, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1...without a proxy.
- inactive, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1I believe Google gives the best, most relevant search results most of the time so I like using it best.
Whenever I feel the need to search for deviant or questionable material, I log into Google with an old roommates or ex-gf's account info using a proxy. This works well. - SleepingOrange, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1haha.. You still live in your parents basement too right?
- vawksel, on 12/11/2007, -1/+2@otto
Until you rape, kill, torture, molest a child, woman, or man.
OR they *think* you did, and you happen to have searched for "Torture" on the internet once a few years back.
Then you suddenly are really important. - fintler, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1Or they'll make the thing so bloated it'll be worse than yahoo.
