- inajeep, on 05/19/2008, -3/+69I love Ars Technica and I'll admit that I am a bit skeptical of this sale but will continue to read them. If I detect any leanings or straying of their articles I'll give 'em up.
- Andy.D, on 05/19/2008, -2/+60I guess this is the official announcement. Important things to note:
> Ars is staying independent, not becoming part of Wired.
> Same people are running it.
> Their forums (which rock btw) are going to remain unchanged.
Congrats to the Ars guys. Most deserved. - alphex, on 05/19/2008, -2/+31The ArsTechnica team deserves this, I've been a reader since 1999, and its really a joy to see how the site has grown. I'm looking forward to what it brings us.
- MAGZine, on 05/19/2008, -5/+19Same company as Reddit? Nice knowing you Ars...
Ha. That was a joke (fat chance). I'm sure there is more awesomeness to become of this. Good luck, and best wishes. - madk, on 05/19/2008, -3/+8No clue they were 10 years old.
- MR2Di4, on 05/19/2008, -3/+7Big huge kudos to Caesar and the Ars Crew for making the big time.
Compliments to all our moderators, forum denizens, and contributors.
I've been reading Ars since '99 as well and I will never leave... - dgtljunglist, on 05/19/2008, -0/+41. Of course it's biased, it's a comment, not a news article.
2. How are they not deserving? They write great content, a lot of their stuff ends up on Digg, and they deserve to make more money and have the resources to expand as they please. - ePuck, on 05/19/2008, -1/+5
This type of thing scares me but this is how the world works. Gratz guys! If thats what you really wanted. - zonovo, on 05/19/2008, -1/+5Same people and more ads, maybe.
- peterinjapan, on 05/20/2008, -0/+3The one site I consistently read and am impressed with. I am glad that the hard working guys over there could get this opportunity.
- ssj2119, on 05/19/2008, -1/+4Great stuff - I wish you guys the best of luck, I'll continue reading your great articles
- mvanhorn, on 05/19/2008, -2/+5Congrats Ken!
- dh122, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2You're*
Used in an example: You're a dumbass. - oenoneablaze, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3pretty funny that you're trying to speak for diggers when the net diggs on all your comments are negative.
- sstacks, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2Ars FTW
- DCstewieG, on 05/19/2008, -2/+4And 105% bad math.
- pabloD, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3I still weep for old school, pre-Condé Nast Wired print. I'm glad the guys at Ars are stoked for this, and really hope it's for the best, but I remain skeptical.
- Floris, on 05/19/2008, -2/+3Very interesting news, I didn't think it would be Wired though. But ok ;) They are staying indep. which means it's the same old ars
- sockpuppets, on 05/19/2008, -5/+6I merged with your mom last night.
- benologist, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2It's the same staff, and if Wired is anything to go by even if/when the original staff take their millions and move on to a life of debauchery the authors will continue to put a lot of effort into their writings.
- fodder650, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Just as long as what happened to Toms Hardware doesnt happen to Ars we'll be fine. Tom's is now a joke and because of it I started hanging out at the Ars Technica site. Good luck
- Daggity, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2There's Digg and Reddit, what's Ars' evil twin? Anyway, the cake is great.
- wpj4, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2Subliminal portal references in the two previous posts are so delicious and moist.
- punkcat, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1usually begins as a sorry, but we cant afford blah blah, so we are merging you with this team...
this happens in 6 months to a year after. - tachistoscope, on 05/19/2008, -2/+3now, more Charles Jade, please.
in perpetuam rei memoriam - MacSuxWindozSux, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1I'll get the Dinghy.
- kurtwinter, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I know, I was drunk.
- RudeTurnip, on 05/19/2008, -3/+3Even longer...according to their web page, they've been around for OVER 8x10^-2 centuries.
- ElBeh, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1That's what she didn't say.
- p51d007, on 05/19/2008, -3/+2Looks like a lot of the tech sites are being bought up. Once some big corporation does
that, they change. The reviews & opinions usually become cream puff. - shragen, on 05/20/2008, -2/+1Nice with the acquisition. Let's see how independent they remain after a year. The fact is that they have overlap with their "sister" publications, and after the next quarterly financials, the consultants will recommend to "use synergies" by "rightsizing" the staff and creating "shareholders value" by eliminating duplicate positions and centralizing editorial control.
- kurtwinter, on 05/19/2008, -4/+2If this goes down like the Wired buyout, expect 75% ads and 15% style (geek-chic, of course), 10% sponsored reviews and 5% commentary.
- inactive, on 05/19/2008, -7/+4I merged with you this morning....
you sexy bitch - inactive, on 05/19/2008, -6/+1I meant to say "Cool Diggers"...
your not one of them for knowing "net diggs"
bitch boy without a avatar. - inactive, on 05/19/2008, -7/+2The "low-down" is you guys sold out.
That's fine, but let's not pretend it's anything other than that. Hopefully it will be for the better. - kevdotbadger, on 05/19/2008, -8/+2ars, that's funny.
- ePuck, on 05/19/2008, -8/+2Deserving? Explain what you mean.
Same guys are running it but they make 10x more money? Advertising money?
Very biased comment imo - inactive, on 05/19/2008, -21/+4Prepared to be slammed in the next months. Diggers hate anyone making money by mergers or advertisements of any sort.
Me being a true digger I say ***** YOU ARS TECHNICA..YOU ARE BOYCOTTED!!!!
What is Digg?
Check out the new & improved
