- sig1456, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1**If you zoom in and take a really close look, the map looks doctored (some of the big open areas look like they've been painted over). Whats google trying to pull *cough* google china *cough*
- schwit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Area 51 is now just a decoy. All of the real top secret testing has been moved to Utah

A lake, in the middle of the desert? Hmmm. - kmarchiori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, real cool. Area 51 has a freakin softball field. Way to kill my imagination, Google.
- motorbikematt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0very interesting.
I have a test site for the Google API which uses the previous imagery of Groomlake (aka Area 51). It's interesting to see the changes between then and now..most notably the large taxi way that crosssects the two runways and the angled runway to the south of the lake flats.
Gee, I wonder what that's for... - timewarrior, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/mwsnap.html

- MattZed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0where are the aliens? you mean they dont keep them in plain sight for everyone to see, dammit
- motorbikematt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's also very interesting to see how badly Google pasted the new imagery onto the old.
See here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?t=h&ll=37.226587,-115.747983&spn=0.006048,0.010064&t=h
The 'two' spots here are actually the same reference point. If you follow the border of the new imagery, you'll see how easy it would have been to adjust this overlay. Odd.
Wondering if this misalignment is part of a disinformation campaign...I checked the opposite side of the new photo and noticed that they've built something down to the southwest (that is, I don't see this in the old API imagery):

Weird stuff. - finkployd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Much cooler in Google Earth

- xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its really glitchy, the pics are not zooming in right, is this happening to anyone else?
- OOTay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0God... make me want to find out more about Area 51.... They must keep all there "good stuff" underground.... Becuase they cant possible think they can pull us over with a lame "oh this is just for testing planes" excuse.
- motorbikematt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yep... Here are some older views of the Groomlake facility... They've definitely built up a big new taxiway.

COOL! - OOTay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Anyone else notice the massive amounts of creators in the ground near the base? Interesting what ever it is they are doing out there."
They used to do some Nuclear testing over there, thats why they have vast amounts of creators. - Raldikuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Runway 32 is hella long
- OOTay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nah its workin fine here, picture quality is amazing

- andyman1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone remember that conspicuous road and power line that went dead into the middle of nowhere? Can someone dig up that location again? It'd be cool to know if that spot was updated as well.
- motorbikematt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ bonlebon
The 737s are actually commuter craft. That's how the employees come and go to work, from Palmdale and Burbank, CA. - panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm thinking they're fakes. Including the White House. Didn't they put those concrete highway barriers around the White House after 9/11? I don't see them on Google maps when you zoom in on 1600 Pennsylvania. I also see some stuff on the roof, but nothing that looks like a AA emplacement, well, not to me anyway.
- magebomb11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0old news,
- f1gm3nt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone else notice the massive amounts of creators in the ground near the base? Interesting what ever it is they are doing out there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Truth Is Out there, Not In Here.
- jthomson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Off the topic, but, didn't the White House's roofs used to be blurred? Or was that Microsoft's map? Either way, you can clearly see the tops of the White House and the surrounding buildings now.
- GrimReeper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, they are really decked out there. They have from what I could see 2 jet fighters, many what looks to be commercial type airplanes (maybe 747's) and what appears to be 2 blackhawk choppers.
- gene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They're old images panique.
- daedalus779, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wasn't it NASA that first took pictures of Area 51?
- sragzorz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, obviously something is going on underground...

The two fighters look like F-16s. The two helicopters do indeed look like UH-60 Blackhawks, but the three commercial jets (one being towed, one parked, and one taxiing or parked) are all 737s (they look like -200 series), not 747s. It looks like they also have what appear to be two DeHavilland Dash-8s and a Beechcraft King Air (or the military variant, designated C-12).
@Raldikuk
Runway 14R/32L isn't as long as it looks. They've marked unusable about 2/3rds of the entire length of the runway. - pranay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what's with these hidden green circles adjacent to the extra-terrestrial highway?

Its a small dumping lake. If you look close, you see water shooting out into a small lake/pond below. It looks to be pretty deep. My question is where is all that water coming from??? - SubFuze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Shhh, don't tell anyone but I found an alien ship:

Wow, someone's never seen a satellite dish before.. - BenStockwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why aren't there any tire markings from planes on the middle runway?
- zoziw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is this Google's way of saying they aren't going to cooperate with the US .gov's request for search information?
- motorbikematt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ akifbayram
this is weird...It WAS on the front page last night early this morning. Strange, I wonder if the gov't marked it as 'inaccurate'. Anybody have a better answer?
@ pranay
Irrigated farms. Google "pivot irrigation" for more.
@ zelot
No, that is blossoming of the photosensor due to hi reflectivity. You can see this blur streak feature on a number of highly reflective photos, at Groomlake and others.
Anyway, I was playing with Google earth and it's also interesting to note the topography of the region...it explains a lot. -
