- makenai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's a little bit surprising since Rails is in quasi-competition with Apple's own WebObjects, but welcome none the less. Reportedly, there have been a lot of people buy Apple machines because of Rails and/or TextMate, so I'm sure this is good for them. Diggedy!
- danbt79, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Rails rocks. It's just disgustingly good. I know I sound like a gushing fanboy, but I've been using it for a few months now and it really is that good - better than the hype! If you're involved in web development you need to learn rails. Not should - need. Go buy an apple and read this. --- You don't need the apple, but it helps ;)
- soyverde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dugg. I'd like to add my vote for locomotive (for development on the mac). It will (rather quickly) let you start learning RoR without having to deal with the whole "Apple's version of Ruby is old/broken/teh sux0rz" issue.
- tolbs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Rails is *very fun* to program with, but its just so damn hard to deploy.
- matthom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Excellent reference. Thanks.
- icoms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0PHP on Acid
- buss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm really happy to see this, depending on whether or not a new mac mini comes out tomorrow, I might be buying one for movies and rails development. This is a great way to get started.
- thecolorme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Perfect timing - as I'm just learning Ruby.
- stoavio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very cool. +DIGG
- mattramos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Interesting.
I like my Agile Web Development with Rails more, though. :) - cabad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Okay, first I'd like to say I'm thrilled to see Apple hopping on the rails bandwagon... even if they are a little late in the game. However, whey don't they just FIX the ruby installation that comes installed with Tiger? I'm not a Ruby expert, but has anyone ever read ANYTHING saying "Tiger's Ruby installation is fine... it just doesn't work with rails." It's always, "Tiger's Ruby installation is broken."
At any rate... for just development purposes, I much prefer Locomotive. Self contained and you don't have to worry about managing the the server. - ChrisSoutham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Never touch Ruby on Rails before, but I think I will now there's a concise tutorial easily available :)
- Eldoo77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Perl on Prozac?? LOL
How about ASP on aspirin? - msephton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can also side-step all this command line nonsense and use Locomotive, which is an all-in-one application that contains a full Ruby environment (Ruby, Rails, Gem, server, database.
http://locomotive.sourceforge.net - underburn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I really do want to learn rails. Im glad apple is embracing it.
- geezusfreeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0When I said unportable in the description, I meant that the same SQL won't work for Oracle as for MySQL, for example.
- geezusfreeek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Hey, it's Apple and Rails both at once. It's scientifically impossible not to get to the front page.
- asdren, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hey, it's Apple and Rails both at once. It's scientifically impossible not to get to the front page.
heh, good one.
though I do love both Apple and Rails. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0what the hell do they mean by unportable? are they suggesting sql is some how tied to a platform? or are they really reffering to database functions? which aren't compatable with all sql servers.
and why they ***** is everyone so obessed with sql functions working between servers? choose the right damn server to begin with and you won't need to migrate - VeSSer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Looks very sweet.
- DyceFreak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0oh how I love Ruby, love how Apple's joined the game.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Sorry, but I prefer Perl on Prozac.
- Prod_Deity, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Pretty interesting. I've been wanting to try this out for a while. Dugg.
- peerk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Digg++
Its great to see Steve Jobs, the inventor of Ruby on Rails, write a tutorial on it. - iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1>wow! front page already with 23 diggs! and 1 comment!
You must have not noticed the word "Apple" in the title... its auto-front-page material. - isilex, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0wow! front page already with 23 diggs! and 1 comment!
