- Polonium, on 10/10/2007, -3/+39Imagine buying the patents and then sueing organisations like MediaDefender for infringing on them.
Now who wouldn’t pay to see that? - Kookami, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Pay? Hmm. Can't I just torrent these patents?
- sloncek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I guess fighting P2P doesn't work out financially.
- edzilla, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7"Mediadefender's Miivi software was designed to scan a persons computer for infringing material and report it back to mediadefender."

Actually, no. That's one of the rumor that was flying around when people heard about miivi, and the leaked emails show that it wasn't true... - amsterdamordeth, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Mediadefender breaks the law already, do you think they would care if someone sued them for using it? The companies paying Mediadefender would handle it for them one way or another.
Mediadefender's Miivi software was designed to scan a persons computer for infringing material and report it back to mediadefender.
Do you think they would care if someone sued them for using their patent? Either way, the Viralg software is useless against bittorrent from what I have read, so that is probably why they are selling it to begin with.
Do you really think a company that was against p2p, would all of a sudden be selling their software to protect p2p, if it was useful? - PeppermintPig, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Or playing both sides perhaps? It's all about the bottom line...
- Philluminati, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It makes me laugh. Patents can't be used to prevent the development of P2P because of prior art. They have to actually think about how to make P2P better before they can patent those technologies and they're too stupid to be able to pull it off
- Lagstorm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Once you cross the line you can't go back. Its either you're on one side or the other. I think they're sellouts/traitors/non-seeding leeches etc....
- edzilla, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Actually, seeing how Sony sued the company that made their rootkit the minute they realized things were getting bad, I'm thinking Media defender won't get any backup from the big media company.
- Lagstorm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Textbook definition of selling out!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Morons.
- edzilla, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The emails state clearly that the software did NOT do that. Actually, they make fun about it. And since they definitly did not expect those emails to show up on the pirate bay, you can be pretty sure they were not trying to mislead potential futur readers...
- Irashtar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2All this is a big crock! they've patented using Rainbow tables to make data that matches torrent hashes. if it actually does work, a new unbreakable hash comes along, and some schmuck is out a million. invest that million in solving the problem, I.e. make people want to pay for your stuff. there will always be those who won't pay for anything, stop throwing money at them.
- amsterdamordeth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I am not saying that their software has no value. I am saying that if it was worth it, they wouldn't be selling it, or MD would have already taken up the offer... A million dollars is petty cash to the media companies.
- mmazing, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2For money? Why not? I am neutral til I see the source. :P
- 3210, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1As others have stated, if it was really worth that much, another anti-P2P company would have bought it, since it is so cheap.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4I wouldn't
- yunus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I'll just download it.
- Tenoq, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Yeah, make it into a Hollywood blockbuster and I'd pay to see it on the big screen.
Wait... - diggstown, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1How is this not SPAM? Front page of Digg? Are you guys really so blind?
- amsterdamordeth, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0well let's see then. First, mediadefender totally denied miivi in many different ways. The MPAA denied even being involved with the company[MD]. Emails leaked out and proved that both of them lied. So knowing this, who do you believe? I've read a lot of the emails and I don't think it is far fetched that the software did exactly what the "rumors" say.
IF the MPAA didn't authorize, or introduce the Miivi idea, or at least support it in some way, that would mean that any file uploaded to miivi, would have constituted copyright infringement, criminal copyright infringement for willfully violating a copyright.
Mediadefender can't get blanket approval to just upload any copyrighted content, because the "media" corporations don't own every copyright. The Batman Begins movie that was posted to Miivi would have needed approval from the copyright holder prior to it's being uploaded to the site. If it did get approval, that means the MPAA authorized it, and therefore means they knew about it. How much copyrighted stuff was on Miivi? A LOT
How many American parents would like to know that the MPAA hired people to upload porn to attract people into "infringing copyrights."
Here I will quote from emails:

I kept looking around at different settings until finally I realized =
these were from your Ares decoys. Take the PARIS HILTON 2006-08-16 =

this a screw-up on Danny's stuff or am I missing something?
