- Appleologist, on 01/08/2009, -35/+674I don't get it.
- thewdog, on 01/09/2009, -10/+448"And you think DIGG has top user issues?"
Yes, yes I do. - 11oops, on 01/09/2009, -4/+295Well, at least they aren't taking the video you created and resubmitting it under their own name.
- Jeffler, on 01/08/2009, -7/+185Because they're partners (lots of subscribers and they can profit off their videos), youtubes most viewed count doesn't actually sort by numbers and puts the legit #1 (mine) at #6 as I'm a lowly normal user.
- twiglet, on 01/09/2009, -4/+160You have selected the "Most Viewed" for "Today" you dumbass.
The total view count has no bearing on how many people viewed that particular video today...
Try selecting "All Time" and then, only then, post it to digg.
Jesus, is this was qualifies as news nowadays.... - WafflePirate, on 01/08/2009, -11/+160What you have to take into account is Digg and Youtube are two completely different websites, with two completely different purposes. While its kind of plausible to compare the two, its kinda different to the Digg problem which doesn't require any creativity whatsoever really to find and share a link first before someone else.
- Jeffler, on 01/08/2009, -25/+116By the way, this is obviously no knock on the actual users who are ahead of me as they clearly put way more effort into actually making videos compared to my 21 second Hockey Recording, its more about the fact that Youtube Caters to said users because they bring in subscribers.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -5/+84Youtube is in too deep with the content producers.
To avoid being sued YT bent over and assumed the position. Very different from digg as digg is not dependent on hosting anyone elses content.
Here at digg its a spamming circle jerk, where every two-bit sheister is hustling for influence and the ability to publicize their own stuff at will. If you dont put the hours into "shouting" your "friends" asking them to digg your submissions then chances are you'll never make the front page. Its a pity that digg has been warped like this and moved so far away from what it was intended to be. - ryleyleckie, on 01/09/2009, -4/+54I prefer:
Step 1: Don't give a ***** because it's just the internet.
Step 2: Spend time focusing on my real life.
Step 3: Repeat. - JDogg1329, on 01/09/2009, -1/+51Digg DOES have a top user problem.
- Vintersemestre, on 01/09/2009, -6/+43this is ***** stupid
- mysql101, on 01/09/2009, -3/+37videos with a red box around them are partner videos. the one without a box is ranked last on the page but has the most views.
- overbyte, on 01/09/2009, -4/+36Well, at least they aren't taking the video you created and resubmitting it under their own name.
- laibixi, on 01/09/2009, -20/+52i hate sxephil!
- dobryjr, on 01/09/2009, -0/+32cause that would be an ***** thing to do...
- Jeffler, on 01/09/2009, -3/+34The NHL allows it, I've been running the channel for over a year now and I've been told by them to keep it up unless I start uploading stuff extremely detrimental to the league.
- flowaus, on 01/09/2009, -5/+34And it makes the front page? FFS.
- DaveBlaze, on 01/09/2009, -1/+30Nice comment from a Power Digger... GamingForever joined Digg 09/18/08 and has dugg nearly 18,000 stories. Maybe he's found a Digg cheat and uses it?
- damntourists, on 01/09/2009, -2/+29i don't think i care enough to get it.
- uberduger, on 01/09/2009, -3/+28Because it means that the 'articles [you are] interested in' are actually the 'articles that [you are] interested in that have been approved by bwc/MBM/etcetera'.
If Digg was 100% blind, then you'd get an organic selection of articles, whereas at the moment, the front page is gamed so that the top users are effectively selecting the content (or at least a significant proportion of it). I don't care as much as some people seem to, but I certainly see their point. - gleepskip, on 01/09/2009, -0/+24Power users are awesome. They are the ones running around with epic armor and swords of a thousand truths. I think Kevin should rewrite the algorithm so that comments like mine aren't even shown because it wasn't from a power user.
- Shagmire, on 01/09/2009, -1/+24@ 11oops
I wonder who the one person who dugg you down was... - EnjoyFailure, on 01/09/2009, -5/+26Step 1: Open 2 tabs, one for Digg Upcoming, one for http://socialblade.com/digg/topusers.html
Step 2: Bury the ***** out of Power Diggers, and call out every dupe they post
Step 3: Repeat until Digg is fixed - ArielMT, on 01/09/2009, -0/+19The point is that the search results are sorted by money instead of by views, yet the results claim to be sorted by views instead of money. That disparity is what's wrong.
- xthpsgodx, on 01/09/2009, -14/+32I never look to see who submitted a story because I have a life. I just read the articles I am interested in and digg what I like. Why are people getting so worked up about this?
- babatikidido, on 01/09/2009, -3/+20way over your head
- ileftfark, on 01/09/2009, -0/+17The difference is their top users actually bring them more traffic. You can debate the merits of a system like that, but it's clear some people's channels drive pageviews. Stark contrast from Digg, where no one gives a ***** who submits a story, they just want to read it. Well, actually they do kinda care when they've submitted the same content 2 hours before a 'power digger' submitted it.
- uberduger, on 01/09/2009, -1/+18Maybe he's just a really really really fast reader... /sarc
EDIT: If he spends an average 60 seconds on each article/submission, then in the time he's been a member, he'd have to have spent approximately 3 hours of solid 'read/digg/read/digg/read/digg...' per day *every single day*. Thanks, GamingForever, unless this is the case, then you're what's ruining Digg. - scratend0788, on 01/09/2009, -3/+18i used to agree with you, but if you try to submit a story you begin to realise that what you are seeing on the front page has little to do with the best storys and more to do with who submitted it.
this undermines the whole point of digg.
if i wanted news that is completley biassed to the subjective views of a handfull of people i'd buy a newspaper. - dhughes, on 01/09/2009, -0/+15 Well said. It reminds me of the music business and people who look at the top 40 chart to see what songs they are supposed to like.
- DaveBlaze, on 01/09/2009, -0/+14Very well said.
- mlvassallo, on 01/09/2009, -3/+17So let me get this straight, you posted a video of some hockey thing that you recorded and uploaded with minimal effort and you are complaining because you are 6th behind some actual creative content? I'd say it is working as intended.
- BooshTukka, on 01/09/2009, -5/+19SELECT * FROM videos
ORDER BY isPartner ASC, total_views DESC
LIMIT 8
You're right. A lot of effort. - inactive, on 01/09/2009, -0/+13people actually watch that *****?
- toonworld, on 01/09/2009, -1/+14Well, at least they aren't taking the video you created and resubmitting it under their own name with a slightly different title and description.
- Jeffler, on 01/08/2009, -6/+18Just like on youtube I have my uploads downloaded from my channel, re-uploaded onto someone else's channel, and sometimes (albeit rarely) their video gets more traffic even though I was the one who stayed up till 3 hours past my planned time to hit the hay that night waiting for a repeat of the game to record one moment? (This has actually happened :P). In that sense its similar to the dupe-stealing issue people claim here.
- Jeffler, on 01/09/2009, -0/+12The issue is they have a "popular videos" section to do this. Most viewed is supposed to be numerical.
- XeroKool, on 01/09/2009, -2/+14I was checking through the comments to see if anyone else noticed this. It took about 30+ comments for someone to point this out?
- Autrix, on 01/09/2009, -1/+12I took a screen shot of your comment, but now I don't know if I should submit it.
- danconia, on 01/09/2009, -2/+13Actually I think they are going by "Most Viewed" FOR THE DAY. The last (labeled 1) probably got 2/3 or more of its views YESTERDAY. There's nothing wrong with this pictures.
- somestranger26, on 01/09/2009, -0/+10Share a link before someone else? Is that code for "Steal article from reddit or digger who submitted it 8 hours before you but doesn't have over 500 friends?"
- BradHAWK, on 01/09/2009, -0/+10Yes, and I've seen many videos with dozens of copies, some slightly modified, and some with *credits* added (sometimes the credits are for major or minor changes or additions to the clip, but sometimes the credits are for merely re-uploading the video that they downloaded from another site.
- stuffblock, on 01/09/2009, -0/+9I guess this proves power users don't read comments (he hasn't been buried).
- ZackScott, on 01/09/2009, -0/+9As a YouTube partner myself, I have experienced this, and I know the explanation. For sorting purposes, YouTube does not count embedded views. A large portion of that video's views must be embedded views. One of my videos was embedded in a lot of news sites once, and my video should have been #1 viewed in comedy for that particular day, but it was not. I asked, and that was the explanation given.
- wild, on 01/09/2009, -1/+10Well at least they aren't taking the video someone created and and resubmitting it under their own name without giving someone their proper credit.
- scratend0788, on 01/09/2009, -0/+7i hate those two more than anyone else on youtube.
- amk07, on 01/09/2009, -2/+9Only difference here is that YouTube actually promote the partners to the top.
In my opinion, ever since the partner program was introduced the content on YouTube has gone drastically downhill. It's turning into a ***** TV network broadcasting commercial crap. - mixxo, on 01/09/2009, -2/+9who cares?
- Wartz, on 01/09/2009, -0/+7Everyday the relative population of Digg with an eye or 2 and a bit of brain grows smaller.
- utnow, on 01/09/2009, -7/+1411oops: "You're wrong because our situation is much worse."
teamr: "Go cry about it crybaby!"
mattiohkamp: "No ***** retard."
DuffyDirect: "You're a ***** idiot."
Yeah.... I think Digg has a user problem in general. -
