- waluum, on 05/03/2009, -8/+266Yeah, and "IT" (aka, Segway) was going to revolutionize personal transportation, and MySpace was to be the be-all end-all of social networking, and wasn't Cuil supposed to knock Google from its top spot not too long ago?
- yocouchdigga, on 05/04/2009, -1/+175"Dr Wolfram, 49, who was educated at Eton and had completed his PhD in particle physics by the time he was 20"
Reading stuff like that makes me feel like such a slacker : ( - rjey, on 05/03/2009, -5/+100More hype.
- grovest4life, on 05/04/2009, -0/+91My first question for it can entropy ever be reversed.
- mrallankey, on 05/03/2009, -4/+95This is everything Ask Jeeves isnt
- usdave, on 05/04/2009, -4/+87Ok most sensationalist headline ever. Did the Independent get paid to write this? How about we see what happens after it comes out and then see how it "changes the internet forever."
- RustInPieces, on 05/04/2009, -0/+77Insufficient data for a meaningful answer.
- inactive, on 05/04/2009, -4/+81Yes, but can it stop people from using dumb spelling mistakes like "for ever" instead of "forever"?
- inactive, on 05/04/2009, -8/+73Wow this is really cuil...
- inactive, on 05/04/2009, -2/+60if people do that alot, the search engine will loose it's mind.
- orlyfactor, on 05/04/2009, -0/+55This is the Mathematica guy, it's kind of hard to feel like an equal when compared to him, unless your last name rhymes with Squawking or Feinstein.
- inactive, on 05/04/2009, -2/+44Stephen Wolfram is BEYOND brilliant, and I know this will be an impressive application, but why does everyone label things "Google Killer", or "iPhone Killer"? Must one product suffer so another can succeed?
- lostmessiah, on 05/04/2009, -0/+40@FurtThePirate: That's what she said...
- opiniastrous, on 05/04/2009, -2/+41I'm a bit of a spelling nazi at times, and I wouldn't really consider that spelling to be a massive error.
I mean, 'forever' is simply the shortened form of 'for ever' (for all time). The 'ever' is able to be separated, or otherwise people would have to say 'forever and forever' rather than 'for ever and ever' or 'forever and ever.'
Yep, it's decided - not a big deal. Meeting adjourned. - oneoverzero, on 05/04/2009, -0/+32For anybody who doesn't get the reference:
http://www.multivax.com/last_question.html - ryanand80, on 05/04/2009, -0/+28Feeling like a slacker is better than accepting that you're a slacker. There's always time to improve.
- Dotcommer, on 05/04/2009, -1/+29***** that. I want the two to work together. Why remove an already accomplished world resource and replace it, when you could have BOTH of them piggy back off of each other to create an even more powerful resource?
- Bananapatata, on 05/04/2009, -4/+32The focus of the article isn't based on the fact that it could be an "end-all". It simply implies a potentially new way of using the internet and additionally says "it could be big."
Edit: ... That's what she said. - LucasVB, on 05/04/2009, -4/+29If you look closely you can spot the text: * Article paid for by Wolfram Research.

- inactive, on 05/03/2009, -4/+26"put it in me Scott...input your question"
- FurtThePirate, on 05/04/2009, -1/+22You can't "that's what she said" on your self. Thats like cheating. Someone else has to finish it.
- mabsark, on 05/04/2009, -0/+21Actually, Google has had stuff like this for ages. For example (I tend to search for these quite often):
http://www.google.com/search?q=world+population
http://www.google.com/search?q=electron+mass
http://www.google.com/search?q=radius+of+earth
http://www.google.com/search?q=h+%2F+c
Most people don't actually realise how powerful Google is. It's a clever bastard. Searching for "wadius of darth", it asks me "Did you mean: radius of earth", which is exactly what I meant. - neumadr, on 05/04/2009, -1/+21i think most internet searches are people looking for locations of content, not necessary answers to questions. this application couldn't natively replace google as it currently stands (although it doesn't state it intends to)
- d2htornado, on 05/04/2009, -0/+19Whew. At least it doesn't affect me. It only affects ever...whoever that is.
- vertigelt, on 05/04/2009, -1/+19Let there be light.
- gnarkill726, on 05/04/2009, -0/+17My name's Alberto Meinstein. What's your point?
- gullyben, on 05/04/2009, -0/+16dugg for "that's what she said" on your self.
- cosmicr, on 05/04/2009, -0/+14"Google, which is working on a similar type of search engine, a version of which it launched last week."
where can I find this? - Dotcommer, on 05/04/2009, -1/+15Huh, thats interesting.. because I was just using google's search engine a few moments ago and thinking to myself "damn this saved me a lot of time".
What makes you think google is broken? No, really. I have a couple million+ users putting in billions of searches a day as well as hundreds of companies and applications that have a direct connection to google as a feature to their product backing me. What backs up YOUR claim? - iritegood, on 05/04/2009, -0/+14"Wolfram|Alpha are equivalent to many tens of millions of lines of code in a lower-level language like C, Java, or Python"
I giggled a little when I read that. Java and Python, hehehe. - TnTBass, on 05/04/2009, -0/+14Did Highlander teach you nothing?
There can be only one. - zugdar, on 05/04/2009, -1/+14Well, i'm impressed at their projection... only 1,000 people would be needed to keep it's "databases" up to date
- blacklilyninja, on 05/04/2009, -4/+16Aaaaaand skynet lives!
- honeybrass, on 05/04/2009, -3/+15I'm not using it until it can keep its "own" database up to date.
- drgmdp, on 05/04/2009, -0/+12mine would be "has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?"
- mstachiw, on 05/04/2009, -0/+11wadius of darth: the measurement of depth of evil of which good is submerged
- Rhydeble, on 05/04/2009, -1/+12Reading stuff like that makes ME wonder why the ***** he's not doing particle physics research.
seriously, particle physics=/=search enginology - korvins, on 05/04/2009, -0/+10The worst part is when they put their brief history of the internet.
After the world wide web was invented, the most important two things that happened are google was created, and this guy put this thing on.
C'mon I know this guy, he has a book about computational complexity with claims that make you think he is the new Einstein, but his results are as a good as the ones from the average researcher. - aurorion, on 05/04/2009, -0/+10Google 2.0 BETA.
- lolwutpear, on 05/04/2009, -1/+10I got a kick out of their "brief history of the Internet" at the bottom.
- liljerk, on 05/04/2009, -0/+9i read that "Dr. Wolfman" and immediately thought "man, that guy must be a total badass"
- inactive, on 05/04/2009, -1/+10It's like dividing by zero.
- ptoomey, on 05/04/2009, -0/+8Isn't that from the new Quiznos commercial?

- greevar, on 05/04/2009, -0/+8By your powers combined, I am Captain Planet!
- Jektal, on 05/04/2009, -1/+9http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&a ...
Google search for "for ever". Above the first result:
"Did you mean: [link]forever[/link]"
I think it'll be alright. - CJ117, on 05/04/2009, -0/+7It's more like "Ask Hal"
