- gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16*searches for Kari on Google [ http://images.google.com/images?q=kari mythbusters ]*
*thanks NoodlyAppendage for making day*
Kari gets extra points for allowing a, uh, backside scan. [ http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/mythbusters/meet/meet_03.html ] - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10This is a great show in my opinion, they are accurate, but not incredibly accurate, but at least it is (alot) better than Brainiac. It is still a cool and funny show.
Digg for Mythbusters - OregonTrail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Since your first link was messed up, is this
http://img14.imageshack.us/my.php?image=kari86mm.jpg
the pic you were referring to? - student69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Here is her website: http://www.karibyron.com/
And a interview with her: http://www.joe-mammy.com/pages/features/kari-byron/kari-byron.htm
She is an intresting artist, and seem like a very nice person. - heymark, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I agree as well, but it's entertainment, it's not science. I love them, and i realize that their myth-busting methods are scientifically invalid, but it all comes down to being entertainment. And, for what it's supposed to be, it's pretty good.
- Jasruler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I have to say, it makes me sad to see the raw ingenuity that used to make up most of movie special effects being replaced by computer graphics... I'm not saying there isn't an equal amount of work involved, but its just cool to see the kinds of solutions the old-school special effects guys would cook up for movies.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Old school (when done properly) knocks most CG into the dust, its a pity that it seems to be a dying art :(
- rooke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6How does it not? M5 industries is Jamie's company after all. Besides, look in the third picture, you can see Adam and Jamie standing there....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5the Mythbusters page is a bit hidden
http://www.m5industries.com/html/mythbusters.htm - joshduck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Brainiac is a lame rip off of Mythbusters. If they didn't have scantily clad women and blow up caravans randomly then no one would watch it.
- elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Jamie used to build anthropomorphized pizza slices for the 'Pizza Head' Pizza Hut commercials way back when. I remember when he worked with (Colossal) Pictures - He and a couple of the other guys there were the creators of 'Blendo' - a wok powered by a lawn mower engine that was so dangerously awesome that it was banned from the old Robot Wars competition down at Fort Mason in San Francisco. Blendo was removed after only one victorious bout because the judges were afraid that the flying pieces of its destroyed opponents could harm spectators. This, despite the fact that the spectators were kept behind plexiglass! Ahhh, memories.
- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well, I think for the most part they try pretty hard to make it "as accurate as possible" given that they have an hour long show that has to be entertaining in additional to testing the myths. Sure, a lot of the experiments could be a lot more accurate, but it's debateable if it would significantly alter the outcomes of their experiments, and it's likely that a more scientifically accurate show might turn-off a lot of viewers who just don't really care...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4When is hte last time several hundred thousand people watched a science class lecture?
Also, you even see some of the old "educational" shows from like the 80s? They are REALLLLLLLY boring. The Science Channel started showing old Cosmos last year and they are just plain unwatchable. There is a reason why science shows went more toward entertainment than before. - retawd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6This is just my simple opinion, but one thing I really like about the show is Adam and Jamie's separate mindsets. They seem to go at the same target in very different ways. Jamie's engineering is tight and simple, and Adam's, for lack of a better term, well , it comes in blue. =P
- retawd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wow. I'm almost ashamed. I am such a dork, I didn't even realise she was good looking. I was watching the experiments...
- prot0col, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Looks like they may need to expand in the near future.
- retawd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Engineering is designing and building stuff. Hopefully it works. If not, try again. Everything else is in your mind. If you can honestly tell me that designing and building a crossbow out of newpaper is not engineering, then, well, you might want to consider a liberal arts degree.
- dandavies, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Looks like Jamie is a fan of the iMac G4. The man has taste.
- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think I recall reading that it came from the Q branch of MI-5 as portrayed in James Bond... (ie: the gadget shop). Go anywhere, build anything.
N. - wadelindsey, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10Nice setup, but as an engineer, I have to say that the bulk of their "experiments" are SO un-scientific... Control groups are never actual controls, and they rarely isolate anything they're testing - its just them playing around and trying (often admittedly cool) stuff until they run out of 30 minutes worth of usable video. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking their abilities to set up really cool staging and simulating really varied conditions - I'm just saying that they could use a few college grads to get them started on how to accurately test their subjects, then let them run amok and blow stuff up - after all, that's what we came for right?
Also, how many of these are actually "myths" anymore? I have never heard of many of the subjects they do on the show... Just Sayin...
Anybody with me on this? - awa1ct, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3+digg just because I love the show.
- teacherG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4good show good digg thanx!
- monsieurgrand02, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I must say that some of there new episodes are becoming dissapointing (like the vodka myths). Although I still loving watching it. But I always seem to catch repeats...
- retawd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Yeah, and the chance of some retard half actor dying from a "mishap" is really slim with CG and that makes me sad.
- jaypee68, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2umm, don't we get an inside look at their workshop everytime we watch the show? Those pictures don't show anything we haven't seen before. No Digg.
- pilotmike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's not the Mythbusters workshop. Adam and Jamie have said that Mythbusters has a separate facility, next door from M5 Industries.
Since some of M5 looks familiar, I guess they have used M5 in the show, but I'll bet there isn't room for the all of the needs of the TV show. - saroth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Jamie Hyneman founded M5, so in my opinion, that makes the article's title valid.
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Thanks for trying to ruin a statement that everyone else here understood except you. You should have signed off: //know-it-all arrogant engineering student
- timbudtwo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What I want to know is what is that big black cylinder on the tripod with the warning label on it (third row second column)
- Flashman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Aw mah gawwwd maram, that IS a 'very serious complaint'.
/sarcasm - GreatBunzinni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Engineering isn't "building". Engineering is solving problems. Engineering is being able to handle and manage everything in a project in a precise and detailed way. Engineering is planning. Engineering is researching and developing new ways of achieving an objective. Engineering is the practical application of basic exact and natural sciences.
What they do in mythbusters is hacking stuff together and hoping that it is entertaining. What they do in their show may be very entertaining (I like it a lot) but it isn't at all engineering. After all, there were a couple of "experiments" where they reached conclusions that a first year student knows are complete ***** and they swear by it. - headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Do Jamie and Adam actually do any FX work anymore? Or has the show become there main focus?
- OregonTrail, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Look at the third picture and this page
http://www.m5industries.com/html/staff_jamie.htm - monsieurgrand02, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Oh, yeah. Brainiac sucks.
- persecuted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Funny, one of the picutes is duplicated. But great shots, seen most of it in the show but this is a little more
- fgump, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Are those REALLY pictures of their workshop, or is this another internet myth? I need proof. Someone do some scientific research on this.
- rochlin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Anyone know where the name "M5 Industries" came from? It doesn't seem to be anywhere on the net. It must be a big secret.

A beginners' guide to Portland, Oregon http://www.portlandpage.com - Cyberdactyl, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3If you've watched any episodes at all, you've already seen most of this
- Thaed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My first thought when I saw the pic was that it looked like a modern day version of Leonardo da Vinci's workshop. I don't always get to watch the show, but it is creative and inventive while still being popular.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I wouldnt go that far. The show can be pretty interesting at times if for nothing other than to watch them go through the process of building and testing. I do wonder how many urban legends could there be for them to keep making episodes.
- earthkid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2When I found the site it loaded like butter the digg effect has killed the servers.
- Muddle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1It'd be great if they actually busted a myth that hadn't already been busted years previously. Kinda ruins the suspense when you know the outcome.
- nordler, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1The digg effect is no myth. Their site is barely loading for me.
- maram500, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4I checked out the link and I have a very serious complaint about this: The title is misleading. The link has little to do with the show "MythBusters" (8p.m. Central on the Discovery Channel), but rather everything to do with the actual workshop where most of the show is filmed. Perhaps the title could be changed? Better yet, change the link. Were I to have done this story for Digg, the link would be http://www.m5industries.com/html/mythbusters.htm, which links to the MythBusters page.
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Mythbusters is way overrated.
- existent, on 10/12/2007, -15/+7Agreed. The only thing the mythbusters are actually "proving" is their incompetence. But it appeals to the science-as-religion clowd, so what do you expect.
And of course, consistent with all this, this post will be marked down just like the one I'm replying to. - jpt62089, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3Needs more cow bell... (sorry had to say it =P)
Anyway cool find =) +dugg Too bad I always forget about this show and miss it =S - GreatBunzinni, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2If you believe that what they do in mythbusters is anything remotely similar to engineering then I must say that you don't have a clue about what engineering is.
//engineering student. - chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -22/+5Seriously, she's married, get over it.
