- datter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Whatever idiot put that music behind those video clips should have his spleen pulled out and fed to him on a paper plate.
- zopheus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Interesting video, stupid music
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2>> The only "objectible" thing about this video is the music.
Agreed. People need to see these things, lest we forget our mistakes. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I admit that music doesn't really fit well with video. Nontheless, the video is realistic (because they're real) and reminds me of IL-2 Fighter Simulator. :p
- jalefkowit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Jeez.
I can just imagine the soldiers talking to each other in WW2...
"There are kamikazes everywhere!!! This is HELL."
"Don't worry, someday they'll put it to a Korn song and it will be BITCHIN'." - meangene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Completely disturbing. Definitely interesting but holy cow... Most of us have no clue what those men went through and I am very thankful for that.
- ryanguill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"The music forced me to close the clip."
you dont have volume control on your computer? - wizard45, on 08/12/2008, -0/+1what video?
- mrkwst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"War is Hell.", Gen. Wm. T. Sherman
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.", George Santayana
What kind of grades did you make in history? If this stuff is new to you, better pay close attention. - dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 Whoever put these clips together with the music has to realize it's not entertainment watching people die set to music.
The man being burned with a flamethrower is shown twice. Obviously someone found it entertaining.
The video of Nguyen Ngoc Loan executing the Viet Cong prisoner is shown with video effects, mocking his death. No matter what he did it's not funny and it's not a music video.
It doesn't matter if you're liberal or conservative, I'm sure any person seeing this "music video" will be repulsed or at least upset by the way it was put together. - cmykx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No ***** digg. Terrible music over actual narration? I'd like to find the original video from before it was hacked up.
- DJPandemonium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That music is unbearable.
- autobahn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Again, whoever picked the music for this is brain-dead.
Some of the clips here give a really good feel of what it was really like for some of our grandparents - most of us don't understand how completely hellish WW2 was. Being on a boat with kamikazes trying to crash into you, and the idea of dying at any moment must be frightening.... But at the same time, the odd beauty of thousands of tracer rounds filling the sky must have been awe-inspiring. - rauz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought I'd be the only one to react on the poor choice of music score to this clip but I'm glad to see I was wrong. Cool video though, dugg.
- Diggawatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I disagree with most of you. Firstly, I think the music is quite fitting for such footage - hellacious audio to go with hellacious video, a perfect match. And I don't think that the presentation is disrespectful or simply "mindless voyeurism" (voyeurism BTW refers specifically to sexual acts). It's just someone experimenting with extraordinary video footage, making a compilation, and setting it to music that I think is befitting to the chaos that is being displayed.
And what is wrong with watching the video without being able to hear the narrator? Neither the music nor the narrator are part of the original footage, so neither one should have precedence over the other. In fact, I think the adrenaline filled, angry music is MORE appropriate as a soundtrack (if indeed you need any soundtrack or narration at all) than a man calmly commenting and reciting facts. The music more closely reflects the nightmarish action than a guy talking.
When watching something like this, I don't need to hear in the background Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings" from Platoon to know that what I'm seeing is sad and tragic. If playing heavy metal music in the background is disrespectful or distasteful, then playing sad violin music should be considered equally distasteful, because both would be lending a theatrical, movie-like quality to the video (like how the ARMY and MARINE commercials make it seem like an exciting action adventure set to music, which I find a little disturbing BTW).
In terms of what kind of psychological effect watching this kind of thing has, having a narrator is more twisted and desensitizing - the images don't correlate with the detached, disembodied voice.
Well, I didn't mean to write a thesis on the subject, but that's my two cents. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The music is a horrible choice, not necessarily the loudness of it, its the lyrics. I'm hoping the anti-war songs were written for other wars, because people who think World War 2 was an accident/mistake/unjustified are extremely ignorant and need to open up their mind to the fact that it was necessary (but obviously unwanted). And if they can't, at least open it up to a few history books.
- Dellitron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0we are still speaking English here .. thanks to those brave souls -War is never good but we are only mortals.
- lightningrod220, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You have to have Safari and Flash installed (the latest one) on your Mac, but it should work. It uses Flash to run the video. There should also be a volume slider below the video to get rid of the stupid music.
- Thundercat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So many people complaining about the music...my question is: what music? I hesitate to destroy the term 'music' with this nonsense. All I hear is a bunch of punks screaming. The footage is terrible and nightmarish. So much evil and ignorance. Never forget those who suffer.
- ytsebadd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow.....great footage. Audio background seems appropriate. Dug.
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"
Dark is the light,
The man you fight,
With all your prayers, incantations,
Running away, a trivial day,
Of judgment and deliverance,
To whom was sold, this bounty soul,
A gentile or a priest ?
Who victored over, the Seljuks,
When the holy land was taken
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
Was it the riches, of the land,
Powers of bright darkness,
That lead the noble, to the East,
To fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We must call upon our bright darkness,
Beliefs, they're the bullets of the wicked,
One was written on the sword,
For you must enter a room to destroy it,
International security,
Call of the righteous man,
Needs a reason to kill man,
History teaches us so,
The reason he must attain,
Must be approved by his God,
His child, partisan brother of war,
Of war, we don't speak anymore,
Of war, we don't speak anymore,
Of war, we don't speak anymore,
Of war, we don't speak anymore,
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
"
Musically it might not be suitable for this clip, but I think that lyrically, it is. - electromatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if you stupid little goony butt tards like war so much why don't you sign up? oh, i forgot b/c you're just ***** who like OTHER people to get shot up so you can play "Action Packed WWII First Person Shooter" games on your new XBox.
no digg mindless bitches. - TestFar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Complete masturbation for all stupid army nuts. A big no Digg.
- godelfin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...but the horrible music means it's a "mash-up," right? THAT must be why it's technology-related.
Even if it does come across juvenile and horrific, perhaps there is some irony to it, in that bad taste is an act of violence. - lavawalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0works on my mac; it's in Flash. I guess Google is blocking your country?
- kleinm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, the video is offensive. Yes, people on fire walking to their death, is not cool. Yes, a corpse being shot to pieces is horrid...but it all really happened.
If it weren't such a tasteless put together with the terrible, terrible music as its score, it would be a necessary documentary. I mean, we can't all run around blind. Half of you on here would say "War is horrid." but you've never seen stuff like this before. War is terrible, but what happened in that war was necessary. I don't think you will meet one holocaust survivor (or family member of one) who wouldn't thank the US for their involvement, or any of the allies for that matter.
Also, the Japanese were power-tripping when they got involved. It was wrong of the US to do the whole Atomic Bomb thing, but it saved more than it killed.
To sum it all up, if everything has to be "technology related"...we, the US, jump started Japan's technology industry...and then slacked off on our own.
The End. - zofo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0any way to have a direct link so I can see it in Europe?
- theOster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0(0.0)
- delt0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really don't like all these vids that use plugins. Can't they have a "download" option? Do they have a download option and I'll just no finding it?
PS i don't run plug-ins. ie flash - czack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Truth is power...offensive or not, people need to know about this stuff. Its our heritage, my great grandfather was part of the war. dugg
- MolenXs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Quit whining about the music. If you don't like it, turn the sound OFF(like I did).
Great video overall although one would think there are enough footage from WWII and Vietnam so they wouldn't have to repeat some clips several times in a video that is 17min. - steve693, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's sounds like there was an informative voice over that was sadly covered up by that idiotic music.
- HiddenS3crets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd have to say the music is a bit immature for a serious matter like this, but it's amazing to see what people had to go through being in the middle of all that.
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Music was annoying indeed since it is not my genre. However, you can mute the audio in the player, mixer, speakers, etc. :P
Were these compiled video clips supposed to have any audio? It would had been nice to hear the audio parts too. - elev8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The music is really terrible. Almost made my ears bleed. It gets kinda old 2 minutes in.
- ForeverNHim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+013 mins though, how could you make it that long?
- ByteGuerilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, what timing... I was just thinking to myself, "How best could a person ***** on WWII?" And now I have my answer... that video...
- zofo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is there any way to view this outside of the USA? And also on a Mac?
I hate that Video Google taking its darn time - zforrester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is the stupidest soundtrack I've ever heard in my life. You oughtta be ashamed.
- moiety, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I could have done without the headbanging, but that's some incredible footage. +digg, +mute ;)
- mdb451, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Keep in mind that the person being burned to death was,at the time, "the enemy" who would have been happy to do the same to the American. The war in the Pacific was a brutal,no-holds-barred affair where prisoners were rarely taken.
- geektron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Whatever idiot put that music behind those video clips should have his spleen pulled out and fed to him on a paper plate."
Couldn't agree more. - cptpike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Totally, the music HAS to go.
- Tordenflesk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Slayer? Don't you guys follow pop-music? That was System of A Down - War.
- shakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"it scares me to think that people watch this and feel OK about it."
Feeling ok isn't the point. I would encourage everybody to learn more about World War II. I don't think the truth is nearly as offensive as the suppression of our history is. - crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The music forced me to close the clip.
- Dummies102, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"This is nothing more than mindless voyeurism. With no commentary and a rock soundtrack, it seems more like an encouragement of war rather than an expose on how disgusting it can be."
reminds me of an article I read about recruits watching apocalypse now and other horribly violent scenes from wars to get psyched - Dummies102, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0interesting, but the ***** stupid music ruined it for me
- coolgeek61813, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ok good color film, in my opinion bad music, and questionable respect war veterans all this adds up to
no digg - jmack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Worst_music_ever.
