- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12That article was waaaay too long for something as simple as saying, "I called them. They said yes."
- webtekie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13"automagically" nice word, we'll have to use some time.
- dragongrrl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7
i recently pre-ordered a DVD from Amazon ("Invincible", if you must know). When they shipped the DVD, Amazon automagically gave me a partial refund because the presale price i paid ended up being slightly higher than the price at which it was offered when it went onsale. i was impressed because they credited my card without my even having to ask. - DrBeaverhausen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I ordered the Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition on the 29th at $74.99, and saw yesterday that it had dropped to $70.99. I read the article and called and they happily gave me back my $4. I was on the phone for less than 3 minutes. And not to get to far off topic, but I chose the free super saver shipping and it got to me in less than a week. Amazon is awesome.
- Supernova36, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Not so secret anymore..
- GR3G, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Just called and it worked for me. Refunded $20.00, but at least it's in my pocket and not theirs! I must say that customer support was extremely nice and a pleasure to deal with.
- neuropsychguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3After you buy your stuff from Amazon, add it back into your cart and "save for later." Every few days or so for the next month, you can track the prices easily and see if they drop. If they do, ask for a price adjustment. Some people have received price adjustments up to 4 months after their purchase too (rare but you may get a nice CR)!
- dennbruce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Direct link to the website mentioned in the article to help keep track of those falling amazon prices: http://www.frozenwarrior.com/~pricewatch/
- applebyte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You don't have to call them to get the credit. Email works just fine. I've done it a few times. One time I noticed a week after I got my credit, the price of the item actually increased above the original price I paid for it. Lucky I caught the lower price before that happened.
- drazin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i bought a samsung 50 inch DLP from amazon for 1620, then a few weeks later, they lowered the price to 1499. i called them up and they refunded me the difference. amazon rules.
- amandaw33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's another digg story I submitted yesterday for a website that tracks falling prices (it alerted me that XBOX live 12 month card had dropped $10!)
http://digg.com/tech_deals/Site_tracks_your_Amazon_purchases_alerts_you_if_you_re_eligible_for_credit - cyc66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This works for Canada to but you need to call 1-877-586-3230. I just did it with a game I bought in December. (Was $30 now $17.99).
- cru99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, whenever I've placed an order on amazon, they inform you about the price guarantee, atleast in your
confirmation e-mail. - iveyleaguefool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I learned about this in a book I ordered from Amazon - Wikinomics, by Don Tapscott & Anthony B. Williams. One chapter actually talks about the www.refundplease.com website which monitors pricing for you (as quoted in this Slate article). The price actually dropped on the book, so I am now taking advantage of this.
- Stea1th, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Just worked for me..ordered a tv it dropped 100 dollars and they adjusted the price. SWEEEEEET
- Stopher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damm, I wish I knew that when I bought my TV. =(
- chokeaduck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is good to hear, maybe I will buy that MP3 player after all... :)
- initiallaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just tried this for my 56" DLP Samsung. I was refunded $130. Thank you for telling me about this and to get straight to Customer Service. Took me less than 2 minutes. Best of all, hassel free.
- clickmyface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now that it's on digg it won't be around much longer!
Oh digg, you silly bastard - aeronic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not so sure that this works with Amazon UK - does anyone have any experience of this?
To date, I've just been using a credit card that offers a similar service, but only on electrical items over 50quid.
Lemme know if it works over here please :) - dmbartos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This worked well for me, personally. At the end of last August, I made a purchase for a Samsung 50" 1080P DLP for what was $1899. When I saw the price drop, I called customer service, asked for a "price adjustment" and got $50 back, no problem. After price watching over a period of 30 days and 2 more phone calls later, I was able to reduce my original price by $250.
- applebyte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If the price increase after you order, you don't owe them the difference. I've noticed prices fluctuate (though not as frequently as airline tickets), but there's nothing wrong with that. It's actually a good thing.
- AngryPenguin47, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They mentioned that in the article, WHY DON'T YOU RTFA!
- eklass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg... worked for me (details below)
Paid: $92.39 + $5.79 shipping
Now: $81.19 + free shipping
Difference of $16.99 for a 5 minute phone call with no hassles! - Salviati, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does this work if the item is shipped by a third party dealer? Often, items I find on Amazon say that they are In Stock and "Ships from XYZ company". These purchases work seamlessly through the checkout process, but usually don't qualify for free shipping.
- amandaw33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no they only honor amazon "direct" prices
- Loyaleagle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow, this is a great tip. the link to the tracking website is awesome too
- matt78, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For those of you who prefer RSS and don't want to give out your email to track an Amazon price:
www.rsstalker.com - jmaze, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Would this work for people that bought an Xbox 360 within 30 days before Thanksgiving?
- jerrardo, on 03/09/2009, -0/+0I can confirm the 7 day policy. If I understood the man correctly the limit is either 7 days from when you order, or the day it's delivered, whichever comes first. Don't quote me because there was a bit of a language barrier.
- thesledman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone know if Buy.com has the same policy?
- chienr, on 01/27/2009, -0/+0I just called and was told that the price guarantee policy is only effective for 7 days, not 30 days as before.
- orayzio, on 10/01/2008, -0/+0I just tried this and was told that Amazon discontinued their price guarantee policy as of September 1.
- sleepykitty, on 08/22/2008, -0/+0I have been using another website to track the price drop. I like this site better because it actually show you the item's price history chart. http://3deals.com/ui/rt.php
- jalapeno, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I've been doing this for years...thanks for telling everyone, maybe now they will change their policy.
- webtekie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Hmm, I bought Cuisinart GR-4 Griddler from them a week ago for $99. Just checked the price it costs $128, I wonder if I have to send them the difference :)
And by the way I ordered it last Thursday around 10am and got it the next day with super-saver. Can't complain. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3advertising your web site on digg?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Last time I used it, it wasn't smart enough to distinguish between a lower Amazon price and a lower marketplace price. I hope they've improved it since then..
- estacado, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Wrong story.
- SybotCB, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Wrong place for this comment
- specialjoel, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1You may have to send them the difference. They sold me two DVDs and they messed up and gave me a double rebate, They shipped me the item and then emailed a week later and told me they had messed up and would charge me the difference even though they totally admitted it was their fault. They must have had it happen to a lot of people because when I called the girl said that it was a big issue. If the clerk at the store messed up they wouldn't send you the bill at home. I really loved Amazon until that happened last week, but it just seems low to me now. I guess that's how they can afford to give people the difference, is by screwing others:)
- kkritselis, on 10/12/2007, -18/+6Refundplease.com is my site... I'm just pointing out that article is correct, that people are receiving the refund, and my site was on the front page of Digg over a year ago... so, not really a secret... and you don't really need my site, all the instruction to claim the refund are in the article.
- kkritselis, on 10/12/2007, -51/+5www.refundplease.com helps you track your purchases... we've found over $60,000 in refunds in the last year. One guy got a $3,600 refund.
