- mklopez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+60Correction: the article talks about the Xbox 360, not the Xbox
- wisedude, on 10/12/2007, -4/+52You know if this hits front page, none of us have a chance of getting it.... Marked as spam ;)
- GeneralFailure0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Amazon is not Microsoft. Where in this article does it say Microsoft is lowering prices? It does not.
- Hoopkidups, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21I quoted TechCrunch directly; it seems that the article was updated to make it clear that this applies to the Xbox 360, not the regular Xbox.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Oh, come on. There's no way this can be true.
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16The real question is:
How much will it cost to upgrade it to a "Pro" 360? - biochem, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Sweet if true. But my guess is this wont happen. Im guessing they actually mean the original xbox.
- arunforce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Your wish has come true.
- mannis82, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I'd be surprised to see Amazon knock any more off their already low price
Xbox 360 Core System

Wow! I save 17cents if I buy from Amazon!
/sarcasm - Destinatus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I agree "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is"
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9*Sigh* You're probably right. :(
- DrBudro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This is for the core system. MS will make some money back with the drive upgrades (HDD and HDDVD). I think it could be a good ploy to keep people off of blue ray.
- xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7If so I am buying 3.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I was thinking the same thing, but then when when I searched for regular xbox on amazon they don't sell it anymore (only through the marketplace sellers) so I don't know I doubt they have any left in inventory otherwise they would be selling it now still.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If true, it probably means Microsoft is dumping the Core system-and Amazon bought the remaining stock of them as a clearance/loss leader holiday item.
And if true, watch MS to go hard-drive standard once PS3 ships-this will allow game makers the ability to use the Hard Drive without worrying about customers complaining, and set a new baseline for the 360. (And the new higher end one will get a larger HD) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8An original Xbox is great for XBMC, the coolest thing ever. I'd buy another one. Can never have too many xbox's with Xbox Media Center.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Digg, ruiner of all deals.
Plus, people are reporting this story as spam, when it's clearly not spam. There's no "I don't want others to see this" report. - Mandeep, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10I don't know why you were being dugg down because I'm sure you're absolutely right.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@aniruddha,
The consoles have already been paid for by amazon (microsoft isn't jsut going to give the consoles to them for free), so whatever extra loss is made from amazon selling it for $100 amazon takes the loss not microsoft. I agree that the original $200 loss is under Microsoft but thats not what the OP said, he stated microsoft would take an additional $200 loss for amazon selling it at $100 and I'm saying thats wrong because it would be amazon's. So I don't see how thats stupid reasoning.
Unless the companies and the stores have some agreement on selling price and who gets what share of it. If they do, I have never heard of it and I am wrong. - ultimate_ed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6This deal on the core system along with the forthcoming HD DVD add on drive could make this the cheapest HD DVD player possible. That alone just might be worth while.
- Diggtatorship, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Thanks! I'll file this away in my too-good-to-be-true file. Yipeee!
- ZoomBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Bah, if this is true I'll be upset - Amazon.com doesn't ship anything aside from CD's and DVD's into Canada.
- Equistatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Don't forget the ~21 dollars in tax if you buy it from a brick and mortar.
- windex99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The original xbox is $150 new, so $100 seems fitting. (and i don't think it ever dropped to $130 like the ps2).
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Why? Amazon has a large stock of Core systems they can't push, because no one wants them.
Why wouldn't they sell them dirt cheap, get them out of the warehouse, and then only stock the premium bundle?
It's not like it's a move from MS. It's a move from Amazon. Two different companies. I say it's very plausible. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's called a loss-leader strategy, my friend. Worked with the original didn't it?
- newaffect, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2what? my friend in school was talking abt this........ i will get one if it is....
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Seriously - I'm getting my parents one for Christmas with a 400 gig hdd loaded with music and video.
- andrew911tt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i got the sold out in 1 min 20 sec
such a huge bummer - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3suppose MS were to offer 1000 Xboxes on amazon for 100. even if they make a loss of 400 on each the advertising they get is well worth it for them. not to mention that they will eventually make money form those people buying games, live memberships, hd dvd addons etc. even if they don't cover the complete cost the fact that xbox 360 stays in the news during the PS3 and Wii launch is more than enough for them.
- socceralien26, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i believe that MS actually raised the price on the orginal xbox after having dropped it...im not 100% on this one but i recall reading something about that at some point, no idea why though.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Although, it might be a good tactic for them in the long run just before the launch of the Wii and PS3. Even if they lost hundreds of dollars per console, they could make it all back in game sales.
- groberts1980, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Where can you buy an original X-Box? I went looking for one about a month ago and couldn't find one. I started to assume you couldn't buy them anymore. See my post below to find out why I want an original X-Box.
- thecosas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Bury as inaccurate... Please :o)
- amazingrefund, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Why wait? http://www.amazingrefund.com/blog/
- loismustdie147, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1not true. manufacturers can set the MAP (minimum advertised price) of an item. while this does not really set the price of an item, it does create a price floor. technically, stores can sell below the MAP, but they can't advertise below it. why would a store sell something for less than they advertise it? i work for a large sports corporation that does this all the time.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Console makers get money from the stores buying the consoles from the makers, and then the stores make money from us buying the consoles from the stores, so amazon would be the one losing money I believe.
- mrsticks1982, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would buy one at $100 dollars and wait until after christmas to purchase any extras I need. Why should I buy them when I can get someone else to finance my purchases!
But for $100 dollars and 59.99 for Gears of War should be worth the purchase besides the 1yr head start by M$ has given them the edge in fixing the bugs. See http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15712585/ - thadesiest1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1was anyone able to snag it?
- Chesh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Probably, I order from Amazon.co.uk all the time and I live in the U.S. (Great for cheaper text books)
- gamasutra, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I call *****.
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3HD is 99 dollars new. Check ebgames.com
- zeptobyte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't believe this. But if it's true, I will buy one despite not really wanting one in the first place. That sort of a deal, if it happens, is just too good to pass up.
- johnist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i don't know. the way the industry usually works is that the hardware makers set a price for retail and will not allow sellers to deviate from it. that is why you never see a ps2 or xbox go on sale, other than some promotion that includes games, where the system is at the very least the same price, but with a game or some extra piece of hardware thrown into the mix. AFAIK this move would be unprecedented in recent console history.
it would be nice if this is true though. i have been waiting patiently for the ps2 to maybe lower its price one more time to finally invest in one, but would gladly jump at this opportunity if given the chance. - LazyBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1fye of all places a couple months back was selling ps2's for 130 with a mail in 30 dollar rebate.
- matt78, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2RSS update for when the price drops:
http://www.rsstalker.com/feed/amazon/product/B000B43OXU - groberts1980, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was pissed when I realized they were talking about the 360 Core System. I would pay $100 for a new X-Box right now, as my old one died and my 360 won't play a lot of my old games. As far as the article is concerned, I throw the ***** flag. They're not selling a $300 piece of electronics for $100, I don't care what season it is.
- theprez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been waiting for Amazon to email me when the PS3 is released to order one. But at $100 dollars plus accesories, hell yeah, I would buy a 360 right away. The PS3 can wait until they lower the price a bit.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I tried ordering from amazon.com with shipping to the UK but it seems Amazon will not ship to other countries due to some regulations.
- waterdrop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is no way that the Xbox 360 Core Package will sell for $100 this year. It either has many strings attached or a catch.
