- analdisco, on 10/12/2007, -22/+66These are Half-Life 3 screens. Reported as inaccurate.
- Logan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Mirror here: http://www.funonthenet.in/content/view/199/31/. Not all of them, but most of the best.
- 4answer2, on 10/12/2007, -8/+28Mod me down but the title should read "a Japanese storm water system" instead of "the", since they probably have more than one in their country, no?
- kirkio, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24You got buried for stating the obvious. Anyone who clicked the link would have realized that the digg effect occured. If you want some kudos, post a link to a mirror instead like moiety did.
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19"The Japanese at the top of the thumbnails reads "Photo Gallery"
How do you know these are half life screen shots?"
They aren't HL3 screens you dork, he was kidding.
Yeesh. - cjsan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Reminds me of a lot of the enviroments from Half Life 2.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19So, where do I find the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
- cphuntington97, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13duggmirror uses the referring url to figure out what to show? that's awesome!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13saw some videos of this on the discovery channel. it channels all the water from tsunamis to an underground "bunker" per se, and then when the storms over it slowly get let back out.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12eh, I tried :-)
- Civil44, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9That's some amazing photography. A great look into human ingenuity.
- turgiddahlia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It would suck if you dropped your keys in there.
- diggitydank, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@ iamcitizen
Don't you mean Typhoons? Tsunamis are a pretty rare event and are not typically caused by storms. Not trying to be harsh, just trying to clarify...
Thanks. - shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12that cache is pointless, the links point back to the original server (which is down due to digg effect)
- theonlybigboss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9this is just amazing how they can mange to create such vast underground networks, almost whole worlds of their own, its just incredible
anyone know where this is exactly? or if they have ever been forced to use these in the case of a tsunamis, or typhoons? - HobbesDoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12WOW!!!! Awesome pictures. Awesome quality.
- tamzarian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I somehow know that this: http://www.digg.com/links/Amazing_photos_of_the_American_storm_water_system_ will NOT be dugg. But only because it is not as interesting as the lavish Japanese ones.
- Salva, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Whats the saying? Oh yeah. "One picture is worth 1000 words."
There are 25 pictures in the first page alone; so I would have to write a 25000 word essay to describe them to you! - analdisco, on 10/12/2007, -12/+19Heh, it was supposed to be a joke. I still think we're a few years away from graphics like that in our games. Sorry for the confusion.
- Pile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Wow. Even the Japanese SEWERS are amazingly clean!
Not a single roach or rat. - Flashman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yeah, you just know that some idiot will re-post these as "OMFG Unreal Tournament 2008 SCREENSHOTS POSTED!!!!!!!!1"
- Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I dunno, this seems pretty clear to me
"Large gallery of incredible photos of the Japanese storm water drainage system"
its to drain all the storm water that they get during the typhoons, the rainy season in that part of the world puts anything we see in the US to shame when we complain about the rain. - SirSid, on 05/27/2009, -1/+7Coral is
http://www.g-cans.jp.nyud.net:8090/intro/07photo/index.html - Settra, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Who ***** cares?
Anyway, those are ssome awesome photos.
Coral cache works good, too: http://www.g-cans.jp.nyud.net:8080/intro/07photo/index.html?coral-no-redirect - adamkmccarthy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6it does too. all looks a bit evil, cool.
- hobronto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Land Rover's running a commercial that takes place in this system. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Skp81uz8ZL8
- jclicky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Behold, the great city of Dwarrodelf"
3rd picture - kimos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Too bad it just caches the thumbnail page, and not actually the images...
- krazikamikaze, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5To be fair, considering how dense Japan is these things are very cost effective. Sure having half of NOLA underwater sucks but having half of Japan underwater would be much worse.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7New Orleans could've used one of these!
- wintermute1974, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Can anyone translate the Japanese on these pages?
It's obvious that these are huge tunnels, but the reason for them is not so clear. - shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4hrm. someone needs to put that on Flickr
- b0rg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Alas, the problem with New Orleans is that it is *below* sea level for the most part. So the addition of high-volume tunnels leading from the gulf into the city might not have helped a lot, unless you're selling inflatable rafts.
- Feztaa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is not a sewer system! It is storm water, which is a very different thing. Sewage comes from your toilet, storm water comes from, well, storms (rainwater runoff from city streets, usually). I'm not sure what, exactly, G-CANS is channelling water from, but it certainly isn't japanese toilets.
I've been in my fair share of stormwater drains, and it's not unusual for them to be so clean... since, afterall, it's just rainwater and any dirt just gets washed right down and out. Sometimes the water can stagnate if it pools up somewhere, and that gets smelly, but it's the exception and not the rule. - mianos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Awsome shots. Nothing else to say!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+13http://www.duggmirror.com
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If anyone's interested here is some cool info about the NYC sandhogs that are currently hundreds of feet beneath the streets expanding the fresh water supply system.
sandhogproject.com/mining/gallery/ - gullevek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3well, its THE storm water system. They might have some smaller ones. But this is a huge project. Near the place where I live they build for almost two years a big outlet into the river. Now rainy season slighty starts and when you walk over the gullies there you can hear the water below. Amazing.
After the rainy season (later in August) you can actually visit this place. I really need to do that. Take my wide angle lens and great pictures will come! - BlackPhantom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They are not photos, just very good realistic 3D renders.
- iamdw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2impressive... anyone found images of this system in higher resolutions? love to pop one of them on my 1929x1080 desktop >=]
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4@MeridianBlue
Thanks for trying anyhow...seeing the thumbnails was quite impressive.
OMG! The Japanese sewer system is so much nicer and cleaner than the New York City subway system! I'm so glad I have a bike!
That means the Japanese treat their sewage better than New York treats its people! - jgreene777, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2it would be cool if someone created a FPS map out of these images...
- Valleye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Are these HDR images (high dynamic range)? I cannot read the copy so I do not know.
- neko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Use the Coral Cache, posted earlier, you can get full size pics.
http://www.g-cans.jp.nyud.net:8080/intro/07photo/index.html?coral-no-redirect
It looks very nice... I can almost hear the distant drone of manhacks... - davidjunit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Reminds me of Quake 2 and 4. Nice pictures.
- drigz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4[cool picture of Japanese storm water system]
repeat
Seriously - how can you expect people to summarise an 'amazing photo'? Obviously they have to be seen... - djrisk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Short article on Wikipedia about the G-Cans project: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G-Cans_project
- celtboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1digging a little deeper (a la google), I found this information on the Japanese sewerage: http://www.sewerhistory.org/articles/whregion/japan_waj01/index.htm
Kinda boring, but jump to page 22 for at least an interesting glimpse of "alternative uses" for the system ;) - proton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2AMAZING!
- icky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am impressed by the size of that place - really incredible. I am equally impressed by the photographs. If I was in there with my digital camera my pics would look like crap. Good photography makes cool things at least 4.32 times cooler.
