- BuRz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+52Thanks A lot for this link. Im always curious to see this close country. They really live in another world.
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32if you want to see more then watch Welcome to North Korea .. http://www.mininova.org/tor/90450
it's a documentary they filmed in 2000.. I doubt much has changed since then - HarryBauzonia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29How dismal. Halfway through the pictures I had to get up and open the window to keep from getting too down.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17By the way, the person is Art Lebedev. The same guy who designed that infamous Optimus keyboard.

The most depressing thing is that they electrify the beaches. Fidel doesn't even do that. - JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Hope my digg cheers you up.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20its called. *****. sarcasm. holy ***** dude.
- Warrzie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14No kidding. This is almost beyond Orwellian.
- jabberwonk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Can you imagine being a "tourist" there? Only allowed to leave your hotel under escort. Only allowed to "visit" a state-run "model" household (gotta love the non-connected computer parts!). It really makes China and Cuba seem non-restrictive to their citizens.

http://www.tema.ru/travel/choson-5/ - puffarthur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12There are a lot of amazing videos about North Korea. Here's one about Kim Jong Il's personal body guards, and the intense training they get. http://www.mediazine.org/view/kim_jong_il_bodyguards.
It's pretty disgusting how Kim Jong Il and his father wasted so much of the country's money building nuclear warheads, ICBMs, and gargantuan statues of themselves while most of the population in the countryside went malnourished and over a million died of starvation. Then theres the 4-600,000 or so "political prisoners" serving life sentences in gulags for committing offenses as heinous as sitting on a newspaper photo of Kim Jong Il, or questioning the communist party's rule, or being a Christian. Don't forget that once you are sent to a NK gulag, you and your entire extended family are sent, and your offspring up to 3 generations stay there, though we don't even know if women can give birth to children in those gulags because the guards regularly stomp on newborn babies' necks until they die when they aren't beating the regular inmates to death. It makes me ashamed to think I share the same cultural and racial heritage as those monsters.
If you are interested in learning more about North Korean human rights offenses, I highly recommend two videos: "Access to Evil" (BBC Documentary), and "Seoul Train" (http://www.seoultrain.com) - very moving. I'm part of this organization: http://www.linkglobal.org/index.php.
BTW South Korea also has those huge concrete roadblocks on highways and roads, mainly as tank traps. They also have tons of barbed wire fence and machine gun posts along the roads if you go north enough, but those are for killing invading commies, not defecting civilians (I doubt there are any). I really wish we could get rid of that half-commie President Roh in the south and replace him with a hardliner like Park. - aresef, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Haha don't let this guy know...
http://songun-blog.blogspot.com/ - sabbac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"Wow. Im stunned. They really are brainwashed. The blog says US "invaded" France during WW2."
Well, we did invade France, it was occupied by the Nazis at the time, but we did invade France. - puffarthur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Also, I actually have met some North Korean defectors who made it out to the US, and they say pretty much everyone in North Korea knows their government and country are messed up. A lot of these photos were in Pyongyang, where only the most "loyal" and "deserving" citizens are allowed to live, so they are not representative of most of the country. Many loyalists are brainwashed, but a vast majority of the people there know what's up. Most people are afraid to defect because it means that if they are caught by border guards or the Chinese (who actively repatriate them knowing the consequences) they are promptly tortured and killed, along with their extended family. If they are not caught, their entire extended family are sent to gulags anyway, which is pretty strong incentive not to run away.
- briangig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8jesus...that is some crazy *****. That guy has some balls, I wouldnt be brave enough to visit.
- ashester, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9can you say 1984?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+18It goes to show you how screwed up a communist nation can be.
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6there are documentaries online, search for them
I know for a fact there was a torrent available on mininova - filmed by 2 journalists who went to NK and came back with footage - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7DIGG! this is awesome, i havent ever seen anything like this, how did that guy even get to visit and come out alive!
- dreadsword, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Damn - can someone geotag these? Does anyone know exactly where they were take? Or is anyone a member of that board?
North Korea is a fricken photographic vacuum:
http://blockrocker.com/index.php?pmode=category&pcat=70&platt=40.01&plongt=128.28&pzoom=6
If anyone has these in Flickr (Art?) you can geotag them thusly:
http://www.blockrocker.com/service_flickr.php
Or if they're out on the web, just use:
http://www.blockrocker.com/service_delicious.php
Damn, what a place. It is the perfect reproduction of 1950 - it reminds me of the pictures of deserted Chernobyl from:
http://www.kiddofspeed.com/ - spidermanspants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I dug it
I'm very curious about the situation at North Korea, these pictures opened my eyes a bit wider - tuna1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If you feel that way, you should leave to a more suited site that aligns more with your [***** up] ideology.
- ashester, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8woah thats insane, is that a real blog or is someguy just writting that as a spoof (got me why anyone would)
- mooninite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This is something else. Since no one is "allowed" to document NK, no one really knows what's going on. Good post.
- itistoday, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Now... if my russian serves me correctly, the picture with the writing in it, the one where the North Koreans are looking at the "white man" in amazement says:
"Look! It's a n***er in pink!"
:-O wtf??? - RocketMike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's quite obviously a spoof, but I'm sure many N. Koreans share the opinions on it.
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7more photos here
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=200578 - tuna1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Nanito, it's the middle of the night in the majority of the United States. Were all so tired from a day of enjoying our freedom (work and/or school) that were coming here to put ***** like you in your place.
- AshKetchum, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Except practically everyone in North Korea is starving and there's not much violent crime because there's nothing of value to steal...
- anonymonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If I were you, I'd stay away from windows while looking at these pics...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Its called multi tasking dumbass, and flaming an ***** like you is one of the many freedoms we have. Trolling dig is the only thing your doing right now.
What a thrill. - rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"If someone ever tries to argue that "communism will work if we take down The Man!", just show them the picture of the border. Look at how much nicer South Korea's side is."
I agree with you, but it's not that simple. Most of the filithy poor communist countries (cuba, nk) are isolated financially from the US and other superpowers. Without trade and support from these countries there isn't a whole lot they can do. That is why they are poor.
China is an example of an up and coming communist country. Of course they are doing well because they are increasingly embracing capitalism and western countries :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Nanito, you are a flat-out communist. I bet you've never been to a communist country.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Nanito the fact that your telling everyone else how ygood you are must show that you have some type of issue already.
You need an ego check as you are probably a dumbass in real life.
Lets see your snappy comeback as you glance at your dusty monitor and cracked walls.
Your a poor loser. - distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5straylightghost, nanito; you guys are ***** insane, and so blind with your trendy little rage against America you're denying the truth.
Also, these pictures were taken by a Russian. So stfu with your vapid little conspiracy theories. - tuna1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nanito, you are one derranged piece of *****. You come here and spout your propaganda when the only knowledge you have of the United States is from Michael Moore films.

- SeanMoney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is a very compelling collection of photo's. I always wonder why NK escapes our wrath. I am seriously offended by those inhumane conditions next to a hundred signs that say The Great Leader. Where has he led them, other than to starvation and poverty beyond our wildest imagination. Lil' Kim is a Mass murdering Tyrant who rules with and Iron fist over the poor people of NK, He must go next.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It also looks like you get a rush out of attention even though its bad. No one can help you anymore.
Goodbye I wont waste my time on you anymore. Since you are beneath the dirt. - distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3nanito, you're the one researching me. how silly.
- SeanMoney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Was my original comment about the inhumane conditions in NK? You my friend have taken a left turn. U.S. politicians are run by lobbyist everyone knows that. I like to stick to the topic at hand like the post about these pictures from NK. Save the political talk for digg 3.0
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So is Saudi Arabia. Yet Americans are perfectly content to suck all that Saudi oil.
And you seem to have forgotten to mention our Chinese Communist friends who probably own half this country by now.
US politicians, US corporations forget all about morality, justice and the law when $$$ is involved. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How can you base your whole reply on made up assumptions and jeers at me for not making a digg profile, which you haven't done either so how does that make me any different than you? The only complex I have right now, is to figure out what in the world you're trying to get across with you non-sensicle American hating rants, a hate which is being eclipsed by your moronic third grade superiority complex.
- sid123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Amazing pics..always wondered how life was in NK. If interested, you guys should check out the movie "A day in the Life". Documentary made about 2 yrs ago..about a family in NK. http://imdb.com/title/tt0450065/
- madmack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3actually, i kind of agree with the original poster.
I was growing in hatred to the comments under the photos. They are ridiculing every aspect of this country. I have been to Cuba, and this country reminds me big time of Cuba. specially the long queue to take the bus. I truly thought that NK was A LOT worse than this. the country seemed pretty clean on the streets. Garbages are around, that means that public services are at least running. I'm not saying "Hey, lets switch to communism, it keeps our streets clean" but all i'm saying is that these pictures could've been of something, and the photographer interpreted them as something else. I have heard a lot of rumors of people and dead bodies laying on the ground without proper services to pick them up. so i was shocked to see how clean the country is. - ltcdata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the car in this picture:
