- swaxhog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In 2015, is any Google serivce out of beta?
- RiddickRom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was a first for me and very interesting. I personally think the road to 2015 will be much more evolved than the presentation suggests. It's so difficult to look that far ahead with any kind of accuracy. Amazing things could happen all because of one invention. One thing you can look at with certainty is the past and going back a decade and looking at the state of tech then comparing that to today, the leap is enormous.
Gazing into my LCD crystal ball I predict that it is robotics that will effect the greatest change in how we use technology. - fnot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can already see the effects on this thread. Just see how many ppl have complained about this peace of news being old. I haden't seen it until half an hour ago, so its news to me. If it haden't been for Digg, I probably would never have seen it either because of ppl rating anything older than a week as crap.
- thomas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Googlezon part was pretty funny.
- DrAtomicus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+08 minutes of my life I will never get back. Weak.
- Sibertank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love this video... Seen it many times before
- cdmarcus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is REALLY old
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's kind of cool in a cyber punk kind of way.
But I know better. Free love and computers are not just around not the corner.
What is, (Digital Vending Machine) buy media, information, content. products.
buy it with your phone, pda, ipod, laptop, TV, satellite etc.
Oh ya and tons of DRM. - tacom8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i don't think its the point that its the "new york times", its just established media. I think we are already seing the fact that lots of news is coming from regular joe people on the internet, and later picked up by the big media outlets for mass consumption. The point is the New York times only serves the purpose of filtering these articles to find what will be significant news of the day for a widespread audience, which is what media outlests do... eventually as the film points out like music, tv and everything elese, people will want ultra customization of what news to them, print media won't be able to compete and hence the "googlezon" which would the be ultimate in media content delivery, and do all the filtering for us.
few good ideas, but wouldn't be registering googlezon.com anytime soon. - Dohko_Xar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0soooooooooooooooo freaking OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- FireRabbit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This was really stupid.
- RiddickRom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's interesting that you mention 1984. For that to work in the story, the world was basically divided up into three powers. Big brother existed only to further the power of the war machine. Control society, make them more productive in war and keep any pipes of peace quiet to keep the war going.
If you look at how our world really works, it is so much more fragmented and diverse. I dont see how a big brother concept could be controlled by any one company. It would seem more natural to me to see that kind of scrutiny on everyone being available for everyone else to view. An example would be google earth. Powerful but available for all with better versions available for a higher price.
Just some thoughts on it. - Teh_Psyren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for wasting my time you bastard.
- jtms1200, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Struggles to make some profound insights, but winds up fully lodged in pretense and melodrama. Gives WAY too much prestige to the NY Times. No digg!
- Kwal756, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the updated version with the ipod in it. Interesting guesses those guys make.
- AjaxDiggz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can just see this on Conan, flashlight under chin, saying the exact same thing in the exact same voice.
- salimfadhley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's slightly corny in a late '90s sort of way.
- pasteler0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0amazing
- stickyboot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This has gone through a bunch of different revisions as different real life events have happned and is rather old, but I dont think its been on digg before.
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jguru007: oops sorry, I searched for the URL, I searched for Epic, etc. Couldn't find it! Nor did Digg's built in protector thingy
Anyways, ya, ajaxdiggz: you're right :) hahaha
I thought it was a spectacular video personally, and I too loved the voice and the dreamlike quality - imanalias, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Obviously incorrect because I saw no reference to skynet.
All hail the "new algorithms" "googlezon" will come up with in 2010. Yawn. - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And I stopped playing 'Falling Sand' for that?!!!
LMFAO
It was like Orwell--without all those pesky (implied) comments on ETHICS!
...And after 2015, "Googlezon" has a new competitor, as Micro$oft and Apple merge and become MiCrapple!
Is life all that terrible, that nobody will want to do their own research, or make their own choices, but will let corporations and bots do it all for them?
What if you should see something that doesn't match your personal preference/profile? How terrible!
Are we all that spoiled?
Silicon Big Brother!
Maybe the wwriter ought to try and write horror movies! - fnot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think they're on to something. We're on our way to information overload. Already any ***** can put his crap on the net, wether it be sound, video, text or otherwise. The trouble is to find somebody that's interested in the ***** you produce and to sift through all that information. Even if you find the 'nuggets' on the web, ask yourself this: "do I really need to know this? I mean really??"
- RiddickRom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Someone had to mention skynet didn't they? *bigger yawn*
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0imanalias: Haha. You know, curiously, that's what I thought it was like too. Terminator. It seemed just like it when I first saw it I'm like "Terminator!" -- same type of thing. But this could actually happen within a reasonable amount of time.
- neoncode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thaught that was pretty awsome. However I, and I expect meany others disslike the "1984-ish" idea to it. Right now we can build coustomised profiles and the like but they are oftern not linked to real people. In this 2015 world they are...
- GabeUtsecks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IN THE FUTURE, WE WILL ALL WEAR SILVER!
- xjbri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Googlezon... I broke out laughing. Ridiculous... plus he kept saying it. It was more like a Saturday Night Live skit than something serious.
I think Miss Cleo needs to be given a call. We just can't predict where this computing and Internet will be in 10 years. - mkjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh my god, this is so OLD!!
Don't get me wrong, I love it when Digg "digs" up a cool old tech story that may have missed the headlines but I even read about this in a national newspaper a week after watching it.
It was rather interesting at the time but since then frendster has started to sink away and the chances of an Amazon/Google merger are as far away as a Microsoft/Apple one.
Plus, Digg shows that automated news sites aren't as popular as sites where community involvement is paramount.
It was a good video last year, but its ideas didn't show any mirror in the real world. - CaptSnuffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0huh?
- bloodwings, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i thought digg was a news site.
- masterofshadows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0really ***** old
- mezz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is way too corny for me to even finish watching >_
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0timmyk. : lmao
- CaptenSpaulding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i saw this months ago
- RiddickRom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Mike wrote "Most blogs today usually focus around a story per day, or few days. This media system would incorporate up-to-the-second information, and, as the video said, localize this information via GPS technology."
This brings to mind the monologue in waking life (excellent film btw) where the idea of evolution in technology speeds up over time. 1000 years between the invention of the wheel and steam power, 100 years between the first planes and then supersonic airplanes, 10 years between (well you get the idea) until we reach a point where tech is evolving so fast that it eventually hits real-time.
I could really see information really shifting when we finally have a better link between the info than a keyboard. An earpiece that helps you thought blog, deadly accurate speech recognition, faster wireless. Put them all together and wrap a social network around it. Scary really, or maybe I've just had too much coffee. - theprez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice video, but nothing "amazing" about it, especially Flash-wise. I think the person who posted this fell in love with the guy's voice.
- aznboi04k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the hell is the purpose of this video? wasted my time. no digg. crap post.
- cebbs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is dumb... no digg
- davidme00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0google + amazon = googlezon!
- TimmyK., on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And the one major problem with this flash movie is that there is no mention of what will happen in 2015 with the most important thing that the internet was created for... the creation and distribution of pornography.
- GabeUtsecks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That video was very corny and really not amazing whatsoever.
Google acquires Picasa! Who cares? Newsbotster? Googlezon? L-A-M-E.
Here is what I see in the future (just the important stuff), because I don't know how to use Flash:
1.) Google will give free wireless Internet to the whole world
2.) The Google Print project will finally be completed, allowing anyone to access a searchable database of every book in the world with their free WiFi internet. Therefore...
3.) Every TV show, book, film, podcast, video, song, music video, news/magazine article, or any other commercial or non-commercial media file of any type, will be available for free (or very cheap) via the internet, and everything -- including audio and video files -- will be searchable.
(Accurate voice recognition software will lead to a breakthrough in the searchability of video and audio files. One would be able to search through text transcripts of every audio or video file with a search engine to find exactly what he/she wants. With Googletalk or Skype or whatever, one will be able to search through accurate, automatic transcripts of all of ones conversations and whatnot. You'll be able to search through transcripts of podcasts and whatnot as well.)
The free internet access is really the key to everything, actually. The rate at which we delve into this digital revolution won't truly explode until everyone has access to the internet for free. Everything else is secondary.
What I am saying -- in essence -- is that in the future, all forms of communication will be free and easy, and EVERYTHING, including the physical planet itself (with google maps) and it's inhabitants (with myspace and other social networking sites) will be part of a searchable database.
(Hopefully, the phone industry would be killed by the VOIP industry, which would have a huge breakthrough if everyone had free wireless internet and laptops/tablets/handhelds with bluetooth and whatnot. I really hope I see VOIP take over in my lifetime. That would make all forms of communication free and easy, unless someone started charging to actually physically talk to another person, which -- sadly -- isn't hard to imagine.)
Wow. That ended up being way too long. I'm sorry. - TimmyK., on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Newsbotster. Googlezon. Hilarious. The creative thinking that went into those names is about that of a slow special needs fourth grader.
Otherwise a differen't style than you commonly see for Flash movies on the web, but not an innovative one at all. - TheD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Way
Way
Way too LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG.
WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING
THE RUnning time on this bad boy is like 9-10 min!
ugh. If for no other reason, you should watch this thing and see why there are people who get paid to write books, and scripts for films...and then there is whoever made this thing.
Screams high school project. - synystar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the new adds. The ending is great. "Have you guys gone out today?" Assuming they haven't, he sends his friends a picture of the "incredible" outdoors.
- awfulshot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think i should go out today.
- DewayneSmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://digg.com/search?search=Epic+2014&area=all&type=both&age=all&submit=Submit
Just to name a few. - darthdusty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is it just me or is the voice extremely creepy?
