- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25It's because you scraped your content. The cartoon just brought attention to your TOS violations. Good going, genius.
- Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20> I produce sites that in the main have some value although I will admit some scraped their content to get those sites populated.
So you have a bunch of link farm/content scraping sites setup and you wonder why you got banned? You're making money by stealing content from other people. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18If this happened 30 minutes after it got to a popular site, they probably saw a spike in traffic, and were instantly confused as to how such an unfunny cartoon could generate so much traffic. Not a conspiracy, but still a screwup on their part.
- calkevin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Are you sure it was the Cartoon?
- itanshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13'borrowing' another's content
- briantech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13What does "scraping content" mean?
- SEOidiot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I cant be sure as they have a policy of not telling you... however it was within 30 minutes of the cartoon being posted on Threadwatch
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Scraping content is what digg.com does, or rather it depends on its users to scrape it.
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Maybe they were banned because the cartoon isn't funny?
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8quote: "all my sites are now without revenue streams and there is nothing anyone can do."
Yes there is. Stop being a tool and get another ad provider. Adsense is not, by any means, the best ad provider out there. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9It means creating WORTHLESS sites and cluttering the web up with ***** inorder to make money off adsense.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Perhaps you should stop catering to Firefox users with their precious little adblock?
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9isn't it ironic that the cartoon is about spam, and now SEOidiot is spamming digg to strum up attention.. time to sit back and see how gullable/subservient the digg army is.. personally, i hope it doesn't work.. with numerous exceptions, digg users seem smarter than that
- kmikz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7he said linkjuice.... hahahahaha
- rdewsbury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you type casino into google you get plenty of ads for online casinos and gambling which are against google policy. But they've declined my gpokr.com ads because they don't allow gambling even though there is no gambling on my site. All play money like alexadex. And they turned off adsense briefly, (but my appeal succeeded thank god).
What I can't understand is how they can be so accurate at finding websites from searches but so inaccurate at enforcing adsense/adwords terms of service. They're like 1995-search-engine-results bad in this area. - suprfli, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7It's pretty simple. He broke Google's TOS. When he posted the cartoon it probably brought his site to the attention of a bunch of Google people when otherwise he was flying under the radar. When they were looking at the cartoon and then decided to dig around his site too they realized he was scraping and then canned him.
Sounds to me like he was clearly breaking the TOS and was an idiot for bringing attention to himself. Now he's trying to make it sound like he was banned b/c of the content of his stupid cartoon. - scooterbooter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Adsense wasn't meant to be a revenue source for SEO Idiots
It is meant for people who have real websites with real content - diggensack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Just put googlesyndication.com in your adblock and use other advertisers for your website.
- GuyHitByTruck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Okay, so the guy broke Google's TOS.. How is this news again?
- RoboPimp3000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I don't know about adsense, but you should be banned from digg for torturing grammar in headlines
- Evroccck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2my wife's site got banned and the reason was but it was connected to me (someone got me banned 6 months ago by lots of clicking on my ads).... looks like they are cleaning house
- jebber007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah. just get YSM and move on. If they ban you, then you'll know it's not the cartoon.
- coolspray, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Don't make fun of people who write you checks. Simple as.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Can't really say about things like this -- you can't really know who's telling the truth.
- dkarlson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No, that was an article talking about linkbaiting.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6"Im a simple Adsense Farmer….
I have WhiteHat sites
I have my fair share of ermmm experimental content aggregation sites….
I have a bunch of grey sites"
And he blames a cartoon. - jtdgrz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4he left google? i don't think so...
- itanshi, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6ok that crapped on me, anyways...
I'd like to see more studies on this side of click fraud. Could they be getting false positives and be hiding behind Trade Secrets? This really needs study - GuyHitByTruck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Way to hit the reply button.
If Google thinks there's invalid clicks, they're well within their rights to deny service. This kind of stuff happens every day, though, so why is it on Digg? - jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2google kicking you off adsense for that comic doesn't make any sense, so I recon the answer lies elsewhere... and it may not even be your fault, im not saying it is. google could have ***** up and its just a coincidence
- cdrahm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Really, I thought it was to make money for Google. In reality, they have two systems. One for larger players where there is absolutely no content on the site, just ads delivered by Google. And then there is the tosser’s league, which would be you and me. In this league Google controls all the cards and you have absolutely no recourse if Google screws with you and, trust me, they are notorious for not paying their partners.
- diig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Dude, same story here! I had a topsites, where people add their site and etc. They ban me because they said that my site is linking to someone's site which has mp3. I asked them back to give me the url so i'll ban it, but they wouldn't and i lost my revenue from adsense as well. Some times they don't make sense at all... here is my question... won't you find mp3 and illegal appz sites on Google? Simple search will give you 1000s of pages with illegal stuff... Google SUCKS!
- jimbocook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Neither of these cartoons got me banned: http://toonrefugee.com/toonblog/category/google/ but, hey, I dropped adsense on my own.
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I thought the cartoon somewhat glorified him. It's the most lighthearted thing he could have drawn.
- TugsMcgroin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The answer is that he scraped content and got caught. Thats all I need to know. When we cut off the money supply, or the financial incentive to scrape content, than the problem will stop. Somebody reported this guy to adsense, and adsense smote him.
- pilkster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1LMFAO @ SEOidiot
Pity you dont live in the US so you could get banned from YPN too... - SEOidiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Toonrefugee as in SEOrefugee???
Also - love the comments all gave me a good chuckle.... maybe i agree with some maybe i dont..... learnt a lot the last week..
Who says i dont have any other ad streams? - gd007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1this is funny!
- HsoKinees, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1because his account was banned because the cartoon sucked? just a thought.. :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+10same thing happened to me on my blog/podcast www.pinkprankradio.com
i posted something about why wordpress is better than blogger
and they kicked me out of adsense
and now im using adbrite - boxybrown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If you read the previous post on the blog, you can see that the account was clearly not banned for scraping.
"After receiving your response, we re-reviewed your account data thoroughly. We have reconfirmed that invalid clicks were generated on the ads on your site in violation of our Terms and Conditions and programme policies." - WackyT, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2HA HA!
"Do no evil (unless there's a profit)" - zoom1928, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Why bother with AdSense? Google is a fraud and admits to it. They very often disable accounts and refuse to pay the money they owe. For my biggest site:
www27:/www# grep "article.php" /var/log/apache/access.log|wc
15285240 343793132 3568377609
That's 15,285,240 hits for the page where I have their ads! And according to Google for this month I only have 63 page impressions with 2 clicks. My page eCPM is $29.79 which is nice, but since they lie about the number of impressions (15,285,240 real vs. the 63 their report shows) they claim to only owe me $1.88 for the month. AdSense is a complete fraud. Google admitted as much when I contacted them about the disparity between our numbers. - OBCENEIKON, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1My site http://equtilities.com once used Adsense. I was banned as well, none of my information was scraped. I never clicked my own ads, although I was accused of it. I appealed the case and was still denied.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2GyHitByTruck i think you missed the whole point you fool.
He didnt break the Google TOS and he still got banned. - JimV, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3I think I speak for many of us when I say, "Ha ha!" (insert image of Nelson)
- itanshi, on 10/12/2007, -17/+11ghetto talk is so 1999
- itanshi, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2i thought cutts left google
this is wierd - NJank, on 10/12/2007, -15/+6agreed. reported as innaccurate. no digg.
- JrGhoull, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0so he tells the guy he "find it a hoot" but then has it taken down? who does that..???
