- Gadren, on 10/11/2007, -14/+203I believe that we need to form an international coalition to mount an expedition to remove the extremely high levels of sand from the PTC's vagina.
- Salgat, on 10/11/2007, -7/+90If you don't agree with whats on TV, don't watch it. We don't need some group to control what I can and cannot watch on television.
- rytr23, on 10/11/2007, -6/+78i thought this was fairly well known.. scumbags..I mean both the FCC and PTC.. a few morons who apparently are unable to change the station, actually, its worse then that, most of their tiny membership don't even watch the hows, they read a summary provided by the PTC and send off a form email.. weak
- solarsavior, on 10/11/2007, -10/+58Welcome to 3 years ago.
- psyops2000, on 10/11/2007, -8/+51I hate it when a group of douchebags take it upon themselves to parent the whole population. If you don't like what you see on TV, then change the channel. Or you can close your eyes, cover your ears, and go ***** yourselves.
- Barman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+42I'll get the shovels. Wow... 99.9 % This Parents Television Council really has nothing else to do? What about teaching your children right from wrong and not letting the TV babysit them?
- BigglesPiP, on 10/11/2007, -3/+42Complaints should only be allowed from individuals.
- AwakeningAZ, on 10/11/2007, -5/+35HEY! Their kids COULD be watching this filth! Wait, nm, they're off at Jesus Camp.
- Sajentine, on 10/11/2007, -3/+33How about we start spamming the FCC because we're offended at the Televangelists that scam those mentally weak out out of their cash.
Ahh, but alas, I wouldn't do such a thing because I couldn't be bothered about complaining about a show I'll never watch. And there's the rub.... - cubicz, on 10/11/2007, -4/+33Welcome to 2002. Howard Stern exposed these frauds years ago.

- KroniKlepto, on 10/11/2007, -6/+33Very old, but dugg because the PTC is yet another uber-conservative group that needs put down.
- pintomp3, on 10/11/2007, -8/+33this is no surprise, the ultra conservative have been a small but extremely vocal and influential minority.
- badjoke, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19We're gonna need an industrial digging machine.
- raitchison, on 10/11/2007, -5/+20This is not news, if you don't like it join and support the EFF (http://www.eff.org).
- crazzy88ss, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14". But when asked, the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau said it could find only 90 complaints from 23 individuals... "
How can 23 people file 90 complaints about the exact same thing? That's over 3 per person. - fantasticFlan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Speaking purely in the hypothetical, what would happen if a large internet community were to use this form to complain about an indecent letter of the day on Sesame Street?
- dinostabOMG, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11The ACLU has a large contingency and represents the rights of all citizens across the board in a variety of fields. This is a bunch of dumbasses complaining about TV.
- cquinnd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10@TheCash
"I wonder if anyone can tell me how exactly this activist group is worse then any other activist group?"
On the level of accountability. All the other groups you mentioned can be, and have been challenged on their actual involvment in activist efforts, and whether those efforts result in an actual change in (a significant number of) people's opinions on a particular matter. They promote (or try to promote) involvment from the larger community on a specific issue.
What the PTC appeared to be doing however, was sockpuppetry. They misrepresented the number of actual complaints (if any) by spamming the FCC with multiple submissions from a limited pool of PTC supporters. That is not activism, because it did not serve the purpose of informing significantly large numbers of other people to get involved in the process; instead they relied on fraudulent efforts themselves to provide undue influence on television broadcasting over a group of general viewers who did not ask to be represented in that fashion.
- morriscat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10I'm not sending any of my men in there..
- deadbaby, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Can't these people just stop watching TV and listening to the radio? We live in the age of DVR, DVD and iPod. If you don't like broadcast then just avoid it. You can pre-filter everything your precious little children see and hear. (then they'll turn 18, realize there's more to life than the Bible and Disney and live to excess probably hating you for the rest of their lives)
- Nereus90, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9So, TheCash, according to you, anyone who has any opinion whatsoever is biased and a hypocrite?
- ATHEISTinHELL, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12I really have to ask this question. Are rated R movies or MA TV shows that damaging to kids? Because some of my favorite movies growing up as a kid where the rated R movies. Die Hard, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Predator, Alien and Speed. I turned out fine so far, I'm the only one in my family besides my father to graduate high school so far. The first time I even tried pot was when I was 19 and I don't drink. I like to think I'm a nice caring individual. So how was this so called 'inappropriate material' supposed have corrupted me.
- Hayaemsay, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Dated Dec 04, you will probably find that PTC makes 100% of the claims now.
- fantasticFlan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Some things can't have too much exposure.

http://www.parentstv.org/PTC/contactus/main.asp - lougoose, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Ultra liberal groups don't seem to get as many results as conservative groups.
- ElRayQuieres, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Or to complain about the PTC.
- pesh2000, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Habemus, setting aside the fact that your 99% figure is likely just made up, I do have a question for you. You seem to be concerned about the lack of religion (and I am assuming you mean your religion) from public schools. How weak do you perceive your religion to be?
If the religion and the parental skills are both any good, it seems that you could teach your children religion in the 120+ hours that they are not in school. Is your fear based on the fact that if your children don't get your religion beat into their heads at all times and in all venues, you think they may not believe what you want them to believe? Seems like a pretty weak belief system. - shorn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Uh, so when we all 'write our congressman' by copying text verbatim from an EFF article about some media industry-favored bill we hate, are we not doing the same thing? Seems to be a bit of black kettle talk going on here.
I think the FCC should take in to account the source when it's counting these duplicate complaints and come up with some metric that more accurately represents the number of individuals actually complaining, but I don't think it's fair to denigrate the PTC's copycat activism while encouraging it for one's own causes and pet peeves. Their complaint isn't invalid - it's just disproportionately skewed. - freehunter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6They should be in charge of RATING the stuff, not censoring it. Like the ESRB only rates games, it is up to the console makers and stores to say if they want it to be sold with their names on it with the rating it has been given, it should be up to the networks to show it based on its rating.
- ScottMaximus1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6that's what she said
- InternetAge, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Yes it was, alot of people need /sarcasm tags it seems.
- cjpro, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6What if the remote is missing? How do we turn it off then? Walk up and turn it off manually? Frankly, in that case, it's easier to leave it on.
- lougoose, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7What I don't get is why parents feel the need to run not only their children's lives, but also those of other people! Not only this TV case, but also in cafeterias, and other places. They want no snacks at all, which is ridiculous. If you don't want your kid eating crap, you don't give em money. If they get it from their friends, explain why it is bad.
The more you keep kids away from something, the more they want to experience it, even if it is only once.
The PTC needs to mind their own business. Let other parents raise their kids how they want. - MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5"***** THE FCC" - George Takei
- CobaltBlue, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I have an idea. Why don't you monitor what your kids watch instead of trying to control what I can watch.
- insomn3ak, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5This is sad, and it's a huge part of what's ***** up our democracy today. How many other organizations are publishing fraudulent statistics just so they can push their political or ideological agenda? I don't have a problem with pushing agendas...but it's downright evil to lie about, and manipulate your results!
- JaYBrooks, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5This is an interesting story... From the way the FCC acted on the complaints, you would of thought there were 1000s of complains coming in and not 100s.
- timla, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Do not confuse Democracy with Tyranny of the vocal minority.
If they were truly democratic about this, then they would have to look at the rating see how many people watched, and consider those that did not complain as people not finding the subject matter objectionable, vs the small minority who did complain.
The FCC would them be effectively impotent, which I am not sure is entirely bad. - Osjpr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Amazing. So they let a lobby group control what other people watch? Rather than the parents themselves being responsible for educating and parenting their children, they force their views on other Americans.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4And it's more than probable that it's 3 complaints per person about a show they never watched to begin with.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You don't see a difference? One involves accommodating the required practices of a religion which were conflicting with the existing facilities... while the other is just promotion (via display pieces) of a religion. It's not being done to promote Islam... in the same way that a tampon dispenser is not made to spread menstruation.
- jggr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Um, what else would the "Parents Television Council" do besides complain about what's on TV?
- neuonyx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4This is exactly the problem with the USA.... Nobody in USA is accountable for their actions. Here is the thought process:
"I'm not a good enough parent to know what my kids are watching or to supervise them... I don't want to admit its me.. So I'll blame.. ummm.. THE GOVERNMENT! THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE!"
It's this stupidity that erodes America's freedoms.. Stupid, irresponsible people. And the government of course welcomes this becuase the American people are freely giving up freedoms and granting more and more power to them.. In this instance it is censorship.
There are a lot of shows out there that _I_ think are funny but I wouldn't want my kid watching.. So guess what!?? I take interest in my child, and I watch and know every show watched. Shows I don't like, I don't watch.. Also, now that I can buy DVDs with shows on them or download from the iTunes, we usually just watch from there, commercial free...
I guess my point is, all you irresponsible ***** out there, stop blaming the government for your inadequacies... The people who end up paying for your stupidity are your children and the rest of the responsible people out here.. - baalzebub, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3the Parents Television Council made up of people too stupid to program the "V" chip in their TV, they are the ones that still have 12:00 blinking on their electronics...
- simplynix, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6I thought it was pretty well understood that the PTC is practically a branch of the FCC that exists to create a need for itself. Concerned parents nothing, try conservative lobbyists trying to funnel money from "the liberal media" into conservative branches of the government.
- lougoose, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Yeah, cause they aren't afraid to make asses out of themselves.
- cquinnd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Any group that misrepresents itself to affect public policy, by gaming the system in such a blatant way should also be put down, conservative and liberal alike.
What they were doing is as much "free speech" as the Nigerian emails. - dinostabOMG, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I agree with you about corporate responsibility, but an enforcement agency that restricts the right to free speech?
