- thecolor11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Mr. Doe,
We regret to inform you...but here's a sweatshirt.
UC Berkeley - dirtyfratboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2omfg...... but i got an email..... this better not be me....
- robusteza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Are you effing serious? I just took the time to create an account for the sole purpose of delegating myself chief of the snarky punctilio police and vhold beat me to it.
Now this comment is as useless as my English degree. - geodanny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I received the emails. It really isn't that big a deal. A mistake is a mistake. They quickly (within 15 minutes) acknowledged the mistake and apologized.
The letter and first apology can be found here: http://danb.journalspace.com/?entryid=99
The secondary follow-up apologies are here: http://danb.journalspace.com/?entryid=100 - Tobey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dang it!
I's done thoughts I was gonna be a one of them law persons! - vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"It's no wonder that little piece of paper labeled diploma is slowly losing it's merit."
You mean "its merit", you uneducated clod! - tobor0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Tom said he has since talked with workers in the school’s IT department to see if the software vendor can add a pop-up dialog box to the application to give users a last chance to confirm that they are about to send out e-mail."
Great.
Can I please have someone else infantilize their software, so I don't have to know how to use it? And then, when he accidentally clicks "Yes" on the dialog box, he'll want another one to ask if he's "really, REALLY sure" that he means it... - NekstBestThing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"You've been accepted!!
lol j/k
You're not.
Sincerly,
Edward Tom" - bbeahm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm going to guess punking 7,000 wanna-be lawyers isn't going to go over too well.
It sure does smell like a lawsuit in here... - vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey, at least the guy was halfway humble about his mistake.
On the other hand, you'd kinda hope the -director of admissions- of a prestigious law school would at least be capable of handling email if he is ultimately responsible for the long term fate of 7000 young people.
It's no wonder that little piece of paper labeled diploma is slowly losing it's merit. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Who cares? So a bunch of future laywers got *****. It's about time!
- GerryDaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0can someone post the email?

don't laugh thats what writing business apps is all about. you spend 10% of your time writing the actually guts of it then the other 90% dealing with retards who don't read things and just go crazy clicking all over the place - Ignathius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0didn't Berkeley just deny like 7k students via email not too long ago, or what that another uni?
- NJOlson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They should at least send them a UC sweatshirt or something.
- LeFrenzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lawsuit
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0happened to me with the UC Davis app...UC's only let u know by middle march-aprilish, so anything before, just disregard
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Can I please have someone else infantilize their software, so I don't have to know how to use it? And then, when he accidentally clicks "Yes" on the dialog box, he'll want another one to ask if he's "really, REALLY sure" that he means it..."
Having a pop-up that says, "You are about to send this message to 7,000 recipients. Are you sure?" doesn't seem too infantile to me. Just add a "Don't show this message again" checkbox and you're good to go. - peciv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This happened to me a couple years ago... but it was UC Davis not Berkeley...
- Pureeviljester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man, that would suck a lot.
- paleblueeyes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hilarious.
c'mon someone post the email already. - MonkeyFit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0""Can I please have someone else infantilize their software, so I don't have to know how to use it? Just remember: Nothing is foolproof, for fools are ingenious. - underburn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder if this person kept their job.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"omfg...... but i got an email..... this better not be me...."
are you for realz man or just joking around? because i can't tell.. - Trojan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yup, I received this email. It was ***** ridiculous.
- rfunches, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I recall reading about this in WSJ (can't find the article online though) and CW seems to have blown this story up a bit, since WSJ and the apology said that being admitted was "implied" in the e-mail. In fact, looking at the actual e-mail as linked in an above post, it's clear from the language that it wasn't a standard acceptance e-mail ("congratulate you once more"). Digg, but not for the sensationalist journalism.
- Fly1m1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What a *****!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is absolutely awful. I feel bad for the guy. However, when doing training it makes sense to make sure you're in the test environment where, hopefully, communications management is disabled from actual contact with the outside world.
I mean, a director of admissions really ought to know that or know enough not to touch it at all. - autumntial, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0haha! "Yay! I got into UC berkley!" *Gets email describing mistake* *Kills him/her self*
Terrible news, lol. - infinitespecter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*sigh* I got one of those emails. Turns out I am wait listed. Oh well. :(
- icoms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is that the same Tom from myspace lol
- smileyface1137, on 07/23/2008, -0/+0haha woops!!!!

Roffle. - Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wannabe lawers + grounds for a lawsuit = at least they can defend them selves in civil court
- greenlight2001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This kind of stuff happens more than most people realize (and more than it should). Maybe not to this degree, but I've gotten emails from medical schools that weren't suppose to be sent to me, ***** like, "your file is not complete", then a follow up of "Whoops, that was sent on accident". I've heard it from many people, in person and online. I've actually had emails NOT sent to me that should of been sent. Invitations to interviews and such. I got an email asking me "if i was planning to attend my interview date or not", 1 day before the interview was to take place, 450 miles from my home! You figure, with the amount of people applying to law school and medical school, versus the amount that actually get in, ***** like this is bound to happen. They have a lot of communications to deal with (although, one could easily argue that this isn't a good excuse). Luckily, I don't have to put up with it anymore. I start med school in August :)
- celeb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0talk about a lawsuit
- breakneckridge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow man, do you want to goto a school that is capable of making such a massive and far reaching mistake?
- rjespo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I got that email. I could tell it was a mistake tho, because the fact that we were "admitted" wasn't even the topic of the email -- the topic was an invitation to attend an event. I got the real email a week later, quickly followed by a call from the admissions office to assure me it was legitimate :)
- YuleLogger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So... I didn't really get in???
- ph3rny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I saw the opposite of this where 7000 got a "your expelled" email
- cyberprashant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0DOH
- FinishdLawSkool, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0After this maybe some of the 7000 will smarten up and go to medical school instead...at least, if they want jobs after they finish school...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Like it's THAT hard to get into in the first place ;-)"
someone goes to community college - jeffreym, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This guy should only work for Army enlistment.
