- vh1`, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40that's not ajax!
ahhhhhhhhh - burke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34haha, yeah, that's just najwax. Non-Asynchronous Javascript Without Any Xml.
- knightblade2oo4, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33As an American, I think the American/Imperial system is the most ***** retarded system of measurement I have ever seen in my life. See:
Metric:
1 km = 1000 m = 100000 cm = 10000000 mm = 1000000000 nm
1 l = 1000 ml = 100000 nl
1 kg = 1000 g = 100000 mg = 10000000 ng
Imperial/American:
1 mi = 1760 yd = 5280 ft = 63360 in
1 gal = 128 oz
1 lb = 16 oz
As you can see, the metric system of 'stupid Canadians' is far superior to the American system in terms of logic and understandability. - Ragzouken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Unfortunately all the 'u's in circulation in America are being used by teenage girls on AIM.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Lesson of the day for computerjoe: Dynamic content != AJAX.
JavaScript's been around since 1995...this stuff isn't new, man. It's a good resource for accessability-aware developers, though. - blakholephysics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I love it,
"I find the AJAX in this amazing"
"To use it offline, just download.."
you can't use AJAX offline. - sroerick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12yeah, as I am Red Green color blind, I'd like to know what normal people see.
- Asystole, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Canadian? Try British.
- felix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8AJAX will get a bad name if ppl keep thinking this way. AJAX is Asynchronous Javascript & XML, meaning theres got some external stuff involving a request to a server. But besides that this is def a helpful tool in web accessibility.
- KidVicious, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13colour>color

and I'm an American. - xgravix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9yep, you've been able to change colors in the active page using javascript for, oh, about ten years now...
neat site though, don't ever use bright red on a black background! - srg13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8You're reporting it as inaccurate because it's not ajax? Who cares. It's still is an "Accessibility Colour Wheel" and it does "display different coloured text on different coloured backgrounds so you can see how accessable they are" as indicated by the title and description. So he got one word wrong... it doesn't detract from the site.
- jkendel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10its part of the superior metric system.
- besouza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This is a really usefull tool. Don't take it off of the front page just because the poor guy got one word wrong. People need to use this.
- Hacktivist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The OK feature is the whole accessibility part... It helps you chose colours that are accessible.
- notjosh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7you know, there's more than just canadians that use 'colour'. if democracy is anything to go by, colour ftw. along with metrics and whatever else.
- mrinternet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4what is normal?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6this is nice because most web designers don't cater to the handicapped enough..
- xgravix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There is not enough context to indicate whether the submitter is joking or not. Unless you know something we don't it could be either way.
Remember the umpteen million studies that say e-mails and written text are misintrepreted 65% of the time... - RoddyF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What's cool is I now can see the colors my cousin sees. he is color blind and he has tried to describe the colors as he sees it. well now, I can see it.
- 5la5hd0tter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2WTF??! doesn't anyone get a joke here?!!! computerjoe was taking a jab at the site for mentioning AJAX without using it, it was a tongue-in-cheek comment.
do you guys even know what sarcasm means? - MatthewWilkes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1PlanetExpress:~ MatthewWilkes$ cat colour.c
#import
int main(int argc, void **argv)
{
printf("%dn", "color">"colour");
}
PlanetExpress:~ MatthewWilkes$ gcc colour.c -o colour
PlanetExpress:~ MatthewWilkes$ ./colour

Conclusive proof (brownie points if you actually understand C so know why that isn't conclusive at all) - yongfook, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2as others have said, there is no AJAX in this. Sweet death when will you come to embrace me. There is no server request needed to simply change elements on the page from one thing to another. You can do that with the most basic javascript DOM manipulation, which is what this thing does.
That said, it's a useful idea. Interface could do with a re-think though. - computerjoe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Just to add the 'OK' feature is good.
- hawk82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Neat site.
- Risikio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I work for a government agency that has to meet section 508 standards of the ADA act. This tool has helped ensure that we are compliant. I have recommended this tool to several other web designers who are also dealing with accessibility issues.
Great job. - crossers, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0I need this! thanks for posting this article!

- av4rice, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5"Personally, I find the AJAX in this amazing."
Yeah I think it's amazing that AJAX made you post this story even though it wasn't involved at all.
*sigh* what's wrong with people
I bet in the old days when DHTML was new, people would slap the label on sites that used used <blink> or animated gifs ("OMG it's a webpage that changes so it must be dynamic html!") - mrinternet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1useful...the colour wheel and ajax
- masskurec, on 03/04/2009, -0/+0great job on the wheel
http://xptweak.net - hatem, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7It's simply Javascript, there is no AJAX inside it. But it's cool !
- Acidosis, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Does no one get a joke anymore?
Don't worry I understand ya computer Joe ; )
PS; for those that don't get it he knew there was no AJAX, he was just taking the piss.
PPS: Or am I being Meta whooshed by some of you guys? I hate it when things go down this path... - mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I don't know what I'm supposed to use it for, but I like it! :)
- itomato, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0http://tesla.liketelevision.com/liketelevision/images/lowrez/ajax211.jpg
It's a 'cleanser' in North America also. Has been since TV was B&W..
There needs to be a greater distinction between the "shiny elements" of Web 2.0 projects and the server-side business.
All that is colourful and clickable/movable is not Asynchronous Javascript with XML.
Yes, Ajax fever to be sure.. - SnOwie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Ajax is also a washing soap in Europe :)

AJAX COLOUR ! :) fits right in this post ;)
Now remember, if the website does funny things, I might not always be ajax :) - itomato, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It's a quick and easy way to view color combinations to ensure readibilty - so (so called) "color blind" people don't show up at your green and grey (#0dd289 & #9a9a9a for example) site and keep going or miss information because they don't see what you intended.
It (and the Color Wheel parent project) is a quick and easy way to see color combinations and their RGB/hex descriptors for quick and easy integration into your CSS. - y2048, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"As you can see, the metric system of 'stupid Canadians' is far superior to the American system in terms of logic and understandability."
Couldn't agree more. However, as a European, I noticed some mistakes in your metric system examples:
"1 km = 1000 m = 100000 cm = 10000000 mm = 1000000000 nm"
nope: 1 km = 1,000,000 mm (not 10,000,000 mm) = 1,000,000,000,000 nm (not 1,000,000,000 nm)
"1 l = 1000 ml = 100000 nl"
nope: 1 liter = 1,000,000,000 nano liters
"1 kg = 1000 g = 100000 mg = 10000000 ng"
nope: 1kg = 1,000,000 mg (not 100,000 mg) = 1,000,000,000,000 ng (not 10,000,000 ng)
Obviously even metric is too hard for you Americans :-)
"Imperial/American: ..."
yeah whatever - you're right, imperial sucks. - staticten, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2just what i needed!
- BlackSheepx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Really nice little utility...I can imagine webdesigners would love this sort of thing.. I'll show my sister :)
- KidVicious, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Omg, my faith in humanity has swan dived because this guy got his description slightly wrong
*sigh*
Jeez, if I have to live in a world where people call something what it's not, I'd better just *sigh* slit my wrists right now, *sigh*
These people are so hopeless *sigh* - Trevahaha, on 10/12/2007, -10/+8I wish people would stop calling javascript on pages AJAX...
- tormented, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Kid you sound like your talking about some kind of cyber emo......Sad

You're an idiot.
Colour is sooo much better! - xelpmoc, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Hey, guess what? XML isn't a requirement for AJAX either (the name is inaccurate, ***** NOW WHAT *****?!).
