- interg12, on 10/11/2007, -5/+82Shouldn't Wikipedia's logo be editable?
- ScottMaximus1, on 10/11/2007, -13/+59Who gives a *****?
- Jugalator, on 10/11/2007, -6/+19My god, which mind writes articles for these things? I didn't even know those letters were supposed to mean anything.
- cosmotron, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Would you like it if the 'W' in the logo was screwed up?
- Philter137, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Ah crap. Ignore my previous post... The article IS correct. I'm not too proud to admit when I've made a mistake - I missed the bit where it says the aim of the logo is to use the "W" from every alphabet... After figuring that out I'm inclined to agree with the other intellectuals on this forum who say; "Who gives a *****?"
- AirRaven, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Japanese Speakers? Sanskrit Speakers/Readers?
- volanin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Well, that's not quite the case here.
Although the first katakana is really "Ku", it can't exist followed by that small "i".
These two katakanas are supposed join togheter to form a single sillable, and the article shows the correct symbol to form the sillable "Wi". - Nobiting, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Direct link to the image:

- tuzziel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Don't forget NYTimes is anti-Wikipedia (read between the lines, they are praying for Wikipedia errors in there), their editors are book writers, publicists etc. These people hate Wikipedia, they hate the ability of average folk to "publish" and edit something with such an exposure and importance (ability to report and write instead of them). Wikipedia has an error here and there, but those are instantly corrected and verified. While NYT's skewed and biased opinions can't.
- IngisKahn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Actually the katakana character looks more like wa than ku, not that it's any more correct.
ワィ - wai クィ -kui - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Several inches anal.

- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Like you would. . .

- badjoke, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Quit bitching. Kevin knows people don't like the system. Try it out for a while or at least bitch in a correct thread.
- badjoke, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Or it's easier than logging in. Thanks, Nobiting.
- Sabretou, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The logo is incorrect because the maker didn't have the Indic scripts component installed. It happens all the time, if you don't install the Indic components thing from the Windows XP Disc. What I find surprising is that nobody noticed it for so long.

more at www.bugmenot.com if that one doesn't work - dinostabOMG, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I don't think that those letters are supposed to correspond to the beginning sound of "Wikipedia." If they were, the Arabic letter "Yaa" shouldn't have been used, as it sound like "ee" or "yee," whereas there is a "w" sound and a "wee" ligature.
- mtekk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's the old media blasting the new media that it can't compete with. That's why the Times wrote a story on it.
- dinostabOMG, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2What the ***** are you talking about?
- RyanWilliams, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Heh, yes I'm really not sure why this is a big deal. If it is indeed incorrect then anyone elementary knowledge of Photoshop could easily and seamlessly make the necessary corrections.
- gmajor1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2The Devanagari Sanskrit might be correct. The Devanagari letter is pronounced "Vee". I don't think there is a "Wee" sound in Sanskrit, but "Vee" is the closest sounding syllable.
- pasher1221, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Funny part is, the NY Times thinks this is a reason not to use Wikipedia. They think they are a better resource. Maybe Wikipedia should have an article with instant updates on errors in the NY Times.
- BackwardsPanda, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hah, dictionary pops up when you double click words on the NY times site. Gives ya an idea...
- noerrorsfound, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You didn't realize the "W" stands for Wikipedia in the Wikipedia logo...?
- isseki, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1So *AFTER* you were PWNED and proved wrong, you changed your mind to : "Who gives a *****?"
How convenient. - g0dzilla, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Philter, no-- you're wrong, the article is correct. Every other character on the globe is a close approximation of the phonem "wi". The Japanese, as currently written, would be "Kui", not "Ui" as the corrected characters _should_ be (cited in the article). So, before you start demanding apologies, you may want to read through the rest of your katakana lessons.
- Rileyper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1No ***** Calcularius NOW COMMENT THE STORY and quit abusing the comment system
- noerrorsfound, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Wouldn't you think it was stupid if the logo said "Wakipedia"?
- 4DFX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You are the only one right in this thread. The two characters are "wa" + "i" which are read as [wi] (not 'wai')! The japanese language doesn't have single consonants (exept 'n'), they're all followed by a vowel thus forming a syllable. What's written in Wikipedia's logo is the closest approximation. There is NOTHING wrong with it.
- ortucis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1True.
- Dragoniz3r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0How is this news, again? The error will be dealt with by next week, probably by tomorrow. And no-one will even give a *****.
- thomashauk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Try an svg or a png and it might be usefull. They lik that kinda stuff over there.
- Philter137, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2@volnin: Thank you for correcting me with maturity instead of using the oppourtinty to throw insults like some people.
@webskare: Take it easy, guy. - Cryptecks, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Owned.

- dinostabOMG, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I don't have the knowledge to agree or disagree, but if that's the case then why do most Japanese users, FTA, want to "fix" it?
- edvas, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4I agree, StoctaMximas1u
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Exactly.
- Philter137, on 10/11/2007, -8/+7The article is wrong. I don't know about the sanscrit but the JAPANESE is CORRECT on the logo. The first katakana (symbol) is "KU" which the article's author has mistakened for an misshappen "U" If someone can prove the sanscrit is correct then the author of the article has some apologising to do.
- crossmr, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Sounds like BS spin control on the part of whales.. he should be a politician.
- Calcularius, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2I repeat. Digg, your comments ARE BROKEN!
- speaker219, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1That's definately necessary, NYTimes might not be able to handle the digg effect.
- wayne247, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1Logged in just to dig you. I mean COME ON, it's a logo that represents "Lots of languages and lots of characters." Do we reeeeeeeeally care if some of them may of may not be typographically correct? What if the artists was just going on a trip and *created* all these? Wouldn't that be art? Ugh sometimes people on the internet are beyond me! They go in forums and stuff and post comments to news stories and ....
